Some of us measure our lives in decades, others? mere days, or hours, or minutes. Some never get a chance. I hope that time never forgets any of us.|
My name is Dave, I am an honorably discharged United States Marine as is my wife Stephanie. I enjoy gardening, photography, history and geneology. I love the stories behind the lives and the memories of all we come in contact with.

Dave, if you want to talk to the counselor at IPC on this subject, her name is Zenaida Gonzalez, 310/912-2850 (cell) or you can email her at email@example.com.
Because of this situation and the knowledge that it could be many years before a headstone is ever set (most likely, after the death of the relative who owns the lot, and who will be buried with Lee) I would suggest that you remove the photo request. The photos of his unmarked are the best we can accomplish for now.
Thank you for your interest in soldier. I wish I could have provided you with a better outcome.

Hi Dave. The counseler stopped me in the hallway and told me that no family member has returned her calls regarding Lee's headstone. So she hasn't dropped the ball or anything; just hasn't heard back. It doesn't look like anyone will ever get back to her. So I don't suppose a headstone will be ordered until the other family member who will be buried with him passes away. This cemtery only allows one headstone per lot, so they can't give him a military headstone and then add another one at a later date.
All I can do is keep checking back and hope that someone makes contact.

I believe you have Viola June Peterson Anderson listed as being buried in the wrong cemetery. You have her in Six Mile Grove Cemetery in Swift County Minnesota which is south of Benson. I believe in reading her obituary she should be listed in the other Six Mile Grove Cemetery in Lyle, MN.

|B.J. Waters||Update re Lee Manning|
I talked with the counselor today in person. The record does not reflect that the next of kin ordered a military marker through the V.A. In my presence, the counselor placed a call to the next of kin (a sister) who apparently is not the "owner" of record on the lot where Lee is buried, and is therefore not the one who would actually order a marker. The sister did not know why a marker was not ordered but was said she would check on it. The sister is elderly (in her 80's I would guess) and has probably not been back here to visit.
Complicating this is the fact that the lot was purchased as a "double" so that someone else will in the future be buried with Lee. That person may not want a military marker.
The surviving persons' names were kept private.
For now, I've done all I can do. I can only check back with the counselor to see if the sister calls back. I certainly hope she does!
I stressed to the counsel that it was important that Lee not ever be forgotten again. She completely agrees with me.
I will keep in touch with you on this matter. Believe me, I feel as strongly about this as you do.

Sorry it took so long to thank you. Thanks it means a lot to me. Take care
|B.J. Waters||RE: Lee Henderson Manning - Inglewood Park|
Usually, someone has to pay for the "setting fee" and I'm working with a memorial counselor to see if the fee can be waived. She was on vacation through the 18th of April but I haven't had a chance to go and talk to her since then. I think if we all raise a raucous about this, he will surely get the headstone he deserves. As an Army vet myself, I was very disappointed every time I went back to the location only to find there was still no marker.
Keep in touch.
I will try again to get a photo of his headstone, but I doubt if one has been set, based on the experience that I've had with this one in the past, as well as another volunteer, B.J. Waters, who has also tried several times. It seems that there was never a military headstone ordered for him. What a shame, after what the poor man went through in a POW camp in Korea.

Same thoughts about him ... thinking he was also a 11th Airborne, 511PIR .
