Bio and Links
Bio Photo After a few months of lurking on the site I decided to try to fill some photo requests for my town Colonial era cemetery March 2013. Tough to find with no plot. In the oldest part of the cemetery I found 2 rows of gothic brownstones around 2-3:00 pm and decided to photograph all of them. They were difficult to photograph & read with backlight glare.

Finally one morning I couldn't sleep and managed to get out to the cemetery around 8 am and voilą, the sun hits the face of the stone and all is revealed. I had to get there way before 9 am! I finished photographing the 120 stones and by then I was hooked. I might as well do the whole cemetery. Jan 2014 I printed out the Hale Cemetery Inscriptions and added the names I missed. I finished photographing those stones or getting area pics if the stone was no longer there May 2014. Also any modern memorial after 1934.

So the Old Cemetery in East Haven Conn is photographed. See my virtual cemetery of photographic challenges that need a big mirror and a few names I could not find if you want to try your hand at it.

Update: *Old Cemetery in North Haven (Old Center) Started to photograph in 2014. Finished that in April/May 2015 before the many large trees leafed out. Worked off of Hale Cemetery Listing 1933 transcribed by Charles Hale himself. Also had two 1888 inventories to add names. All standing headstones have a photograph or area photos if no longer standing.

*Brandford Center Cemetery, Started to photograph Section A the oldest part of the cemetery, May 2014. Finished Aug 2015 (Hale 1934 list & modern after 1934). Section B, to the left of the road to the office, finished Hale 1934 list July 2016 & some names after 1934. Section C beyond the office a handful of names from the 1934 list I could not find, & don't know the percent of modern memorials photographed.

*Greenlawn Cemetery in East Haven-Hale Cemetery Inscriptions 1934-entered and photographed list by 1-1-16

*Independent New Haven Lodge Memorial in East Haven-photographed.

*Montowese Cemetery in North Haven-aprox. 22 memorials short of photographing all of the 1934 Hale Cemetery Inscriptions.

*East Lawn Cemetery in East Haven-entered all the names listed in Hale Cemetery inscriptions 1934.

Suggest a correction tools I use- whats on the headstone, Family Search for census, Conn State Library collection in Ancestry, especially the Hale Cemetery Inscriptions copied during the 1930's, the Barbour Collection of town vital records, The East Haven Register by Rev. Stephen Dodd pub. 1824, Families of Ancient New Haven by Donald Lines Jacobus & the local libraries.

Thank you for all of the work that you do for all of the cemeteries around NH. But as a board member of Hebrew Burial and Free Loan Association, which manages these two, I greatly thank your efforts in listing and photographing memorials there.

Bradleys in East Haven Old Cemetery
Suzanne,
I can't believe what you have accomplished in Connecticut cemeteries! I've been printing out my Bradley and Farren ancestors to add to my documentation for the Mayflower Society.

However, amidst all of your wonderful notes, I did find an error on the bio for Lydia Farren Bradley. She was the daughter of John Farren (1800-1864) and Desire Thompson Farren (c. 1804-1889), and not Joseph Dunham Farren and Susan. The mistake is understandable, as you will find Lydia living with her uncle Joseph in the 1850 census. I have some documentation for this, including the Farren genealogy and East Haven church records. If you need them, please email me.

Again, my appreciation for all you have done to help researchers. Do we share some East Haven ancestors? As well as Bradleys and Farrens, I have Thompsons, Hemingways and many others. Hope to hear from you.

Anthony Sorrentino
Hi Suzanne. I Jay's got your email. The burial location that I gave you is correct on Anthony Sorrentino. But the woman said that his stone is flush to the ground so it will be difficult to see. Hope you will give it a second chance. I don't get around to it to often and have never seen what my grandfathers stone looks like. Even after all these years. Any questions please feel free to call me at 2035830342. Thank You

Thank you!
Thank you so much for your help!!

I don't live anywhere near North Haven, so I'm so appreciative. I've got an open request for St. Bernard's cemetery in New Haven (Jacob Kozuch) if you ever go out that way. Happy Easter!

RE: Vernon Pepper
Hi Suzanne,

My uncle was a VERY interesting man! He was brave and adventurous and loved his country. That was sweet of you to say, and to keep his obit. We all miss him very much in our Pepper family. My aunt is still alive and doing well, thank God. I will definitely add her to the memorial when the time comes.

Cheers!
Lannie

Vernon Pepper
Hello!

I got your message for Vern Pepper and am happy to add the information, thank you.

He was my beloved "Uncle Vernon", who was my grandmother's youngest brother. Did you know him as well? He was such a great man, and has "Our Hero" on the box my cousins made for his ashes.
