_______________

Some people have asked if the Great Dane in my profile photo is my dog. No, he is not one of my "babies." My dogs do funny things, but not things that can be captured in still photos. Plus, every time I approach them with my (very small digital) camera, they run for the hills!

My husband and I adopted three elderly dogs in 2016 whose owners needed to move on to nursing-home care. The first one, adopted in April 2016, came from a family member and turned 15 years old in November 2016; her first mommy passed away in February 2017. We adopted two in August 2016 (11 and 13 years old), from one household, that no one wanted because they are old, a real shame because they're such sweet, sweet beings--loving and very affectionate.

My husband and I have adopted rescued pets for over 35 years, and our children and our brothers and sisters do the same. Some of us rescue only dogs, some only cats, and some rescue both cats and dogs. We have found some cats and dogs that we placed in other homes. We also found some that were lost and returned to their owners, one of whom had been hit by a car and required emergency treatment. Another very tiny little dog ran away from the noise of fireworks, traveled about 3 miles in the dark (no street lights out here in the country!) to our house, and scratched on the door to be let in. She passed up many houses to get to my house. Her "grandmother" picked her up the next day.

Mixed-breed dogs are my favorite because their looks are as unique as their personalities; however, my husband and I take whatever God sends our way. Our babies are much loved, and we give them excellent care. I couldn't ask for better friends than the dogs that have graced my life. I don't know about anybody else, but God gave ME two hands so I can rub two dogs at once.

This is my favorite poem:

"It came to me
that every time
I lose a dog
they take a piece
of my heart with them,
and every new dog
gifts me with a piece
of their heart.
If I live long enough
all the components
of my heart
will be dog, and
I will become
as generous and
loving as they are."

Tombstone Tracker
Billy Baker - 122545058
It is my understanding that the New Salem Funeral Home was indeed in charge of the arrangements. However, both my cousin and his wife were cremated and their remains are indeed at rest in Wattensaw Cemetery in Lonoke County, Arkansas. They are both interred next to my uncle and aunt (Billy's father and mother). I, myself, was present for the graveside service there along with his sister and brother. But thanks for verifying.

Thank you
Thank you for posting a memory candle for my brother Mike. He was a kind a gentle man and it warms my heart to know that others that we might not even know care and remember those who have passed way too soon.

Your profile - love of animals
Somehow I came across your page and was very touched by your caring for the dogs and cats you have taken into you heart and home for over 30 years. Love the dog poem and plan to share it with several friends. Did you write a memorial for Doogie? I have virtual cemetery section for Beloved Animals (mine and others).

I also perused your list of those people who whose lives have been taken by others. So riveting and sad at the same time. I've been photographing headstones at Sierra View (in Olivehurst CA) this month (since so many of the names are listed but not photographed). There was a breaking news story this month (Sept. 2016) of a cold case going back to 1973 of two girls, Valerie Lane and Doris Derryberry who were murdered near Wheatland, CA. With DNA long stored away, authorities tracked down the girls' killers who will be brought to justice.

Lastly, I noticed that you have two individuals (Curtis and Sharon Ackley) buried at Rocklin Cemetery - I added their memorials awhile back. Can you tell me what happened to them?

Thanks for all the work you do on this memorial site!
