Welcome! Just to let you know, most of my family roots are in Kentucky; so, if related, I am more than happy to transfer the memorial pages I have created. I love to reunite families with their loved ones. If needed, feel free to use the photographs I have posted on Find A Grave for your personal ancestry documentation. If so inclined, you can always give credit for the source.

I stumbled upon the following poem and thought it was so succinct in describing why we do what we do. . .

THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hallowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

RE: Find A Grave Memorial# 163483230
The cemetery is called the Cornelius Ball cemetery. It is not on find a grave. I doubt that more than a handful of people have been there in the last 20 years. One of the most secluded cemeteries I have ever been to, and I have documented over 400 cemeteries in this area.

Hi Patty,

I'm just wanting to let you know that Cornelius Ball is not buried in the Ball Cemetery you have him listed in. I have been to Cornelius' grave. He is buried on Big A Mountain in Buchanan Co., VA.

Heidi Sanford
Sanford family
Hi ive been trying to connect the links from my grandads side, but it stopped at Caswell Polk Sr., so further research led me to here, but im looking for some clarity on it.
Heres where it stopped from my grandad:
My last named family member
my great great great grandfather-John Morgan Sanford Sr.
Birthdate:1811 (83)
Death:Died 1894 in Wetumpka, Coosa, Alabama, United States , it says on his obituary that he was the son of Caswell Polk Sanford Sr.
So I searched Caswell Sanford Sr and I got that he was the son of John W.A. Sanford Sr.
which means that Caswell Sr was the son of john w.a sr and brother to john w.a. jr- creator of the alabama flag.
Going further, I found a publuc court document where John W.A. Sanford was suing someone for attempting to steal their father Jesse Sanford's land. So that allowed me to add Jesse Sanford as another of my great grandfathers.. Which led me to find out who Jesse's father was and that was capt. William Sanford. So can anyone help me connect the dots here and confirm this?

RE: William Freeman
Thank you so much, Patty. I saw after I sent the message that Jack had passed away. He helped me out on several memorials, and even transferred a couple to me. He was a very nice guy. I've posted the only photo I have of Billy, but I'll try to replace it with a more recent one if possible. Again, thank you so much. I really appreciate it. Take care, and God bless.

William Freeman "BoBo" Peeler, Sr. #40348362
Hello Patty, I went to school with Billy Peeler. I tried to post a photo of him from high school, but it says the limit has been reached. Since you posted three photos, could I possibly get you to delete just one photo to make room for his picture? If not, I completely understand, and will ask Jack Johnson if he will delete one of the two he posted when he created the memorial. Either way, please send me a reply letting me know. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. Take care, and God bless.

RE: Dr. Joseph Strother, memorial Find A Grave Memorial# 99341961
Thanks for checking for me! I'm familiar with cenotaphs, but had no reason to believe the marker for Mrs. Strother in our cemetery was one. The memorial for her there is not marked as a cenotaph, and local cemetery records list her (under the name Julia S Strother, but with the correct birth and death dates). Again, I appreciate your drawing this to my attention.

I sent the administration a request that this memorial be marked as a cenotaph.

RE: Dr. Joseph Strother, memorial Find A Grave Memorial# 99341961
Thank you for the clarification, Patty! I am indeed happy to know this. I have unlinked the memorial from his mother's cenotaph and linked it to the memorial of her actual grave. If you have a minute, would you check Dr. Strother's memorial (https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=99341961) to advise whether I got it right.

I note that the cenotaph is not marked as such, and sent a message to its creator along with the link to the actual burial site memorial. Hopefully, he will have his marked as a cenotaph.

Thanks again.

Dr. Joseph Strother, memorial Find A Grave Memorial# 99341961
Thank you for your edit for Dr. Joseph Strother's memorial, # 99341961. I have declined it only because the link to his mother was already on the page, along with that to his father. If you have any other information on Dr. Strother, I'd be happy to add it. :-)
