210 have been included in the Horry County Historic Cemetery Registration Project.
The project consists of surveying the entire cemetery by photographing and gps'ing each gravesite. This information is gathered to prevent encroachment from development. All survey information is posted on the Horry County Government website. Photos are also posted to findagrave. Hopefully our efforts will help others researching their ancestors and who want to visit the final resting places of their family members. If you would like to use any of our stone photos we have taken you are welcome to do so.
QUOTE FROM author DAVID EAGLEMAN:
“There are three deaths. The first is when the body ceases to function. The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third is that moment, sometime in the future, when your name is spoken for the last time.” - David Eagleman
The Grand Strand Genealogy Club held in Chapin Library, Myrtle Beach, SC, meets 2nd Saturday of the month, 10:30 am 1st floor conference room.
RESEARCHING: Rogerson, Clemons, Godwin, Porter, Wiehrs, Asendorf, Wittschen, White, Lancaster, Tarver, Partridge. Husband's side: Perhala, Zima, Kuchta.
My personal belief: "To each of you reading this, if you are a cemetery walker, then God Bless for your energy. And if you document your findings with photos or entries on fag.com, God Bless again and I'm grateful for your work done and your future efforts. Each grave contains someone's loved one who has passed away. Each life had meaning and still influences those left behind. We carry our loved ones in our hearts even after they are gone from this earth."

HOW TO READ A DETERIORATING STONE:
spray water may help, sometimes in combination with a soft toothbrush. Sometimes I put the toothbrush into the dirt beside the stone, using the dirt like nature's ink, and rub the toothbrush (dirt and all) across the inscription/dates. Too much water and you get nothing. Another option is to use aluminum foil on the stone surface. Enough foil to wrap around the corners of the stone. Use soft toothbrush to brush across the foil and get an impression of what's on the stone. Remove the foil and take it to a shaded place to read the impression.
Our family's pet: Dixie

Susan: Thank you for posting the edits, wonderful tribute you made to Dr. I got involved thru his sister Blanche, who marred 2nd to Rev. William Neely Ross the brother of Maj. Gen. Ogden J. Ross 1893-1968. My father served under Ogden and always spoke highly of him. I researched Ogden as a tribute to my father. I maintain his Find A Grave memorial and have cleaned the family stones at Oakwood Cemetery, Troy, NY where I was from. It has been an interesting trip connecting the dots. A number of edits to other family members are in the hopper. All the best. Bill Preston now of Saratoga, NY
|Investigator||Pilgrim Lutheran Church|
Your inquiry re Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
This church is located just a mile or so from the Lake Murray Dam (Gable-Ininger Family Cemetery) and is the church most of the folks buried in this cemetery attended. Some have duplicate stones in the church cemetery.
|Investigator||Gable Cemetery, Lake Murray Dam|
The Gable-Ininger Family Cemetery is located adjacent to the locks of Lake Murray dam on Highway #6. The Cemetery is on a hill and heavily wooded. I was there today with a representative of SCE&G, and we had a hard time getting to the cemetery. There are only four tombstones present, unless others have been knocked down and are covered with undergrowth, I asked the SCE&G Rep if they could have a maintenance crew clear some of the growth and make the cemetery more accessible. He advised he would look into this request.
I looked for two days and could not locate the cemetery. When SCE&G added the backup dam, they reconfigured the entire area and now have high cyclone fencing around the area. Some of those buried there are listed under surnames that are not the same as on their tombstones. Please let me know if I can further assist you with this cemetery.

Yes there is a place that you can go to check on individual burials for the military. It's the U.S. Department of Veterans Affsirs - Nationwide Gravesite Locator. http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/
