John Zimmerman Carpenter....he is my 5th Great grandfather. My grandfather Edgar Max Carpenter told me the story of why our name used to be Zimmerman and the it was Carpenter. I guess in one of their trips in immigrating to the US, the Zimmerman's were finding it hard to find work, so they, the family, decided to change their last name to Carpenter, which is what Zimmerman means in German. I show that John Zimmerman Carpenter was married to 2 women, Drusilla Tomlinson and Elizabeth Scherer. Glad to meet all of my Carpenter family here

John Zimmerman Carpenter
Most of the information you have for John Carpenter (Zimmerman) is wrong. John Carpenter/Zimmerman is my 7th great grandfather. John Carpenter Zimmerman immigrated from Germany to Virginia between 1717 and 1725 in either the 2nd or 3rd group of Germanna settlers. John Carpenter married Anna Barbara Kercher/Kerker who was also a german immigrant between 1717 and 1725. They had a son named John Carpenter who was born in 1723 that married Eva Dorothea Koch (Eve Dorothy Cook). Eva Dorothea Koch was also an immigrant between 1717 and 1725. John and Eva had a son named Michael Carpenter born in 1758 who married Rebecca Delph. Rebecca Delph is a descendant of the Delph family that immigrated to Virginia between 1717 and 1725. Michael Carpenter and Rebecca Delph had a son named Samuel Carpenter who was born in 1785 and married Margaret Bowie Slaughter. The Slaughter line was a prominent family in both Kentucky and Virginia. I know of several books and other sources to help you out with the descendants of John Carpenter/Zimmerman. I am still working on who his parents are, but I know who his wife Anna Barbara Kercher/Kerker's parents are as well. I can give you all of the books I have been looking through because they involve multiple families that I am a direct descendant of. Let me know if I can be of more assistance.

Hi, I'm a descendant of Genevieve Bollinger's grandfather, William D. Collins. He had a previous marriage, with children, in Bennington County, Vermont. Any chance you have any information about him? I am glad to share whatever I have. Jane C, New Hampshire

My mother's maiden name was Carpenter. Her father was Harry Ernest. From what I have discovered so far it's John Zimmerman, Robert, Samuel R, Jacob, Charles Henry, then Harry Ernest, who married Alma Louts and had 3 sons and 2 daughters, including my mother, Frances Arlene. Would love to connect with other members of the family.

Mary "Polly" Dailey Carpenter
I don't think she was born in 1776. In light of the date of birth of her husband and census information if is more likely that she was born Abt. 1793 or Abt. 1796 in Virginia.

Notice that you have two dates listed in the memorial.

I received your message regarding the duplicate. I am a data manager for Find a Grave and I am monitoring Miramar National for memorials that are added on a daily basis, While your memorial was created before mine, mine was created as his ashes were placed, your memorial was moved into the cemetery after mine. After seeing the photo you posted, it was my decision to delete mine. I will post a photo of the marker once it's placed if you'd like. Just let me know.

Margaret Allenbaugh

Margaret Allenbaugh was an important person in my life. It is because of her that I became a nun. She had a daughter that she used to call "Daughter". Is she still living? I would love to be in touch. I am a little surprised that Mrs. Allenbaugh decided to have her ashes scattered at sea... is this true? If she is buried in SoCal, can you send me the location of her grave? Thank you so much.
