Cemeteries are such unique places. I enjoy the beauty of sculptures, mausoleums and various items around the interred. The statuary, the iconic images, representative symbols, old rod iron fencing; it is all fascinating. From the most elaborate statue to the simply inscribed piece of wood.

There is so much mystery in a cemetery. Stories that are told and stories to wonder about and stories to find out about.

I am a 4th generation San Franciscan and have lived in Marin County for over three decades.

I enjoy taking photographs of the surroundings and capturing the beauty of the burial plot. I do my best to capture the entire tombstone in as pretty a shot as I can manage. I continually watch for seasonal changes or offerings to capture a better representation of the marker and view.

I spend a great deal of time in cemeteries; both physically and virtually. I photograph and document a select number of cemeteries in the counties of Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino as well as San Francisco and Colma.

I also enjoy researching and adding histories, especially pre-1920's. Love the old West Marin ranching history and the Mendocino logging and nautical history. I enjoy perusing old newspapers and other documents to find people lost to each other and especially connecting orphaned baby memorials to their parents.

I generally stick to the counties I am familiar with as I know the geography, area history, etc.

Please do not send me full obits. If you want to take your time and edit out certain points, please do so, per policy.

I will not post the names of living individuals per policy.

RE: Christina Olufs
If I understand correctly, should I remove Christina from John Henry's memorial? This can not be done, the two married on 12. Sep 1930 in Nieblum on Föhr. - Or have I translated something wrong? Jan "John" Memorial# 15975503 & Christina Memorial# 15975507. Please let me know what you mean exactly. Greetings

Maria Rosario Briones & Hiram John Nott
Hi Colletta. Some lady sent me a marriage date for Rosario and Hiram which changes most of what I thought about them and their lives in Bolinas.

This is her note to me: "This is what I have from San Rafael Mission records. En el ano 1852 y el 14 Setiembre case y vele Jose Juan Nott edad de veinte y seis anos, hijo de Enoc y de Black vit de los Estados Unidos y Rosario Briones edad de 19 anos, hija de Gregorio y de Ramona Garcia. Prevido todo por el concilis fueron testigos Gregorio Briones y de George Gorzht (?)"

The would have married on 14 Sept. 1852. Their daughter Frances may have been born "prematurely" in 1851 or she could have been born in 1852, still a bit premature. But it appears that all of the children living with Rosario in the Bolinas 1870 census belong to her and Hiram.

I asked the lady to see if she could find a birth record for Frances Nott in the San Rafael Mission records the next time she was there. I'll let you know if I hear from you.

Best regards.

RE: William Crowe
Sorry. There are duplicate entries for this William Crowe.
Didn't know how to combine the two. So I thought you could modify the bio.

Graveyeard at 4252 Gravenstein Hwy S, Sebastopol
Hello. While I have always been fascinated by old graveyards, esp. in northern CA, I am only a dabbler. I came to this sight because this old graveyard (see subject line) is on a piece of property I am interested in buying. The owner apparently bought it less than a year ago and appears to be "flipping it" but is also in southern CA and is unable (or unwilling) to be personally involved in the sale process, so other than legal disclosures, info is scant.
When I found the graveyard on the site, it was both beautiful but saddening - the pictures of it on this site were taken in better days - the metal fending is bent and twisted like a bulldozer ran over it, but perhaps it was just some big trees came down and were since removed...and I am trying to figure out if this site has become an attractive hangout for vandals or what happened, as I would love to maintain the graveyard (if I owned it) but would be concerned if it was a target for vandals or such.
Sorry for such a long message and imposition, but I would appreciate any insights you may have.

Collects, would you be so kind as to leave your beautiful Tomales Cemetery photo on the memorial for Josephine Regina McCarthy Pozzi's husband's memorial? His name is Eduardo Pozzi. Thank you very much.

Thank you for leaving the March 2017 photo of the cemetery. I think it's a gorgeous photo. As green as the hills of Ireland.
