Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have worked on my family trees and others for over 30 years. My current interest is in Schoharie County NY history, more specifically the town of Summit where I live. I compiled, published and printed books on Schoharie County One Room Schoolhouses, The Schoharie Alps Town of Summit History, Murders and Funky Stuff in Schoharie County, Schoharie County Emergency Medical Services, Schoharie County Clubs & Lodges etc. and Spanish American War Veterans with connections to Schoharie County. If interested in purchasing any of them please let me know.
I recently completed my book "Women Who Paved the Way at the turn of the Century in Schoharie County" and it is available on Amazon. My next book will be the Schoharie County Poorhouse/Almshouse and it's Residents.
I got started taking pics of grave stones in looking for Civil War Veterans monuments. Now I take pics of any grave stones with an emphasis on all Veterans. I can spot a Span-Am flag holder in a cemetery from yards away.
My goal is to preserve any piece of history I can get my hands on, particularly in light of how much was lost in our area during Huricanes Irene & Lee.

Hi Karen,
Do you mind if I use your photo (Find A Grave Memorial# 105933232) on my private tree page?

Seward Van Ness #121232491
Hi Karen,
I have a photo of Clara Lawyer Van Ness that I'd like to post at her findagrave memorial, but I don't find one for her. I see she is shown on the headstone as the wife of Seward. Do you want to create a memorial for her - if not is it OK if I create one and use your photo?

Henry E. Abell 174556021
Hi Karen, I finally finished the Find A Grave Memorial for Henry E. Abell 174556021. He's the guy who founded two Schoharie Cty newspapers, among other things. Paul

I appreciate your transferring the care of Peter's memorial. It will be good to link him to his family properly and tell some of his story. I have a poignant photo of him in uniform going off to war. He died in a prison camp just a few weeks before the end of the European war.
Still working on the Baldwins and Meeks in Summit. and I think we've been in touch about other families too.

Peter is appearing as his own brother now b/c your memorial is a cenotaph. Per Find A Grave:

What is a cenotaph? How do I have a memorial designated as a cenotaph?

A cenotaph is a marker within a cemetery placed in honor of a person whose remains are buried elsewhere. It may also be the original marker for someone who has since been reinterred elsewhere. To add a cenotaph, create a memorial. Then email with a link to the memorial and request to have the memorial designated a cenotaph. Please only add relationship links to the actual burial memorial when both a cenotaph and actual burial exist.

Thanks again!

Hi Karen,

I added an edit for Peter's father. His mother was Ruth Anna George daughter of Andrew and Juliana Hanford George who are buried in Claryville. Ruth Anna died 24 Jan 1939 but I do not know where she is buried.

Peter also has a memorial #56658824 where he is buried at the Lorraine American Cemetery that you might want to note on yours.

Thanks for all your good work,
