Please DO NOT post family history in the memorial notes and flower section. That is not the purpose of that feature. If you have additional information, please use the edit tab to contact me. |
Any obituaries that I have posted on my memorials will not have the names of any living relatives. (I am not responsible for obits added by other contributors as a photo) Also, I try to not include living spouses when photographing headstones.
To quote local genealogist Joan Griffis,
"Personal information concerning living individuals should not be published or shared on the internet without the permission of those individuals."
I choose to just omit the names.
Most of the names I have added are family, either to myself or my spouse, and would like to keep those. I have added various other memorials, such as family friends, etc, so if I have a memorial that you would like transferred, it doesn't hurt to ask! Others have been generous to me and I enjoy passing that generosity on to others.

|Nancy Louise||RE: J. Casper|
Thank you for getting back to me about the name change. I'm new at this, so forgive me for not being too aware about how changes go. Even though my bio says 2 years, I only signed up at that time, I didn't do much on the site until a few months ago.
Here's my thinking on using Johann as the first name and John as the nickname, especially with these long ago relatives. Accuracy and completeness have helped me find many folks from the family histories.
An example of not using the exact wording from a headstone is John Casper's father's headstone (Garrelt Jacob Casper) It says Caspers which was correct at the time, but the "s" was dropped in all descendants from that point on, so his Find A Grave site uses Casper. Also, his name is misspelled on the headstone as Garrett, but his Find A Grave site is amended to Garrelt, the correct spelling of his name from family histories and as you know from John Garrelt Casper.
J. Casper's brother went by Frank and the headstone says Frank, but, to me at least, it's interesting to have his given name Friech on his site, with his Frank name in quotes, "Frank" as the name he went by.
It doesn't matter to me that much, I just love the fact that we're honoring these long ago folks and are remembering them all these years later in our new, technological world, thanks to FindAGrave!

Thank you for your gentle reply to my curt note. Sometimes I forget how much everybody else does in this grand effort.

You are most welcome - glad to be able to help you!

You are so welcome! I did get one photo of the full stone, and you can see his name in it. I can post it to his page, but I'd be glad to go back and take a close up of his stone if you'd like.

Hello Katy. Happy to meet you on Find A Grave. Other than a small number of family, I place memorials in honor of veterans. I am happy to place these memorials with their families with faith that you will not delete as some do. Transfer today. God Bless.
