I believe that that record is in error. In the 1850 census, the family in Hanover Twp, Cook Co, IL lists his birth in New York. His father Luther Herrick also was born in New York. DAR records list John's grandfather (Elijah Herrick, Jr) and great grandfather (Elijah Sr) were both born in Connecticut and were Revolutionary war soldiers in the New York militia.

I found an obit for Emma Lenschow Rohrsen. She is buried in Hampshire Center and I have posted the obit to her memorial page. Instead of sending all the edits I thought you might just want to read it and take it from there. Thanks, Melanie
Thanks for the update. Are you looking to have Hiram linked to Rhoda, if so your request is to link her as his mother and she was born 10 years after him. I haven't done any research to see if Rhoda is his wife but I will look into it very soon.

It was our pleasure. Glad we could help! As for the name, I guess someone made a mistake on the headstone. So goes life and I guess even in death.
