|Bruce Allen||Justice Justus Butler|
My name is Lloyd Bruce Allen. I read with interest your memorial for Justus Butler. His sister Rachel was my Great Grandmother. Justus and My great Grandfather, Oscar F. Cole and Oscar's Brother William Tell Cole were in the sawmill business together at one time.
I have some questions:
Are you a relative of Justus or just an interested researcher?
Do you live in or around Leipsic? I lived there until I was 18 but returned fairly often to visit my Father, Lloyd E. Allen until he passed.
Do you know anything about Justus's 2nd wife Melissa Cole?
If you have any interest I would be happy to share my research on the cole family.
Hope you have a great day.

I'll clean up the text and look into the rest of it. I seem to recall reading that data you posted about Roseberry somewhere. I'll remove it. I have quite a few images of him and Minerva. If you'd like to send you email, it might be easier than using a public forum.

Can you send me the particulars on that George? Somewhere I have something about him, I think. The George Colvin Find A Grave memorial -- as you noticed -- was in error and so I asked the original memorialist some time ago to transfer it to me and then posted that caveat. Unfortunately the link from Susan Runyan's Sophia Colvin memorial has never been unhitched, despite my having sent her a disclaimer and she posting it on her Sophia memorial. As you may also know, Ms. Runyon's Find A Grave messaging option is inoperable. Perhaps you have a way to contact her and request the de-linking.
Thanks for the update,

Stumbled upon your site while doing research about the excessive number of disease deaths at Pittsburg/Crumps, prior to Battle of Shiloh. (General Halleck thought it was a hoax: that men were claiming to be sick, to get sent north on vacation.) The actual rate of illness, now believed due to Typhoid Epidemic, was as high as 30 percent in some regiments. (See Memoirs of Surgeon John Brinton, for more information.)
Anyway, writing to inform you there are a few mistakes in your write-up on Eli Butler, if you would like to correct them: he was a member of the 78th OVI, not the 76th. He was mustered in in 1861, vice 1862.
Otherwise, a wonderful tribute to a Civil War Patriot.

Are you a Butler cousin? Are you researching the line of Nelson Butler and Mary Ann Hewitt Butler – the parents of Benjamin, Ludlow, Alden, John, Louisa, George, Jeremiah and Mary? I would like to share information if so. Best regards, JK
