RE: Mary Ryan Jones Sharp
Do you know who Mary Ellen Ryan (Jones) Sharp's parents were and where she grew up? I'm assuming she grew up in Scott County, but don't know for sure. Also, do you know anything about her first husband, Granderson Jones? If you don't mind, give me your email and I'll send you a message.

RE: Mary Ryan
Thanks for getting back with me. I seem to be having trouble getting to you on Find A Grave. You can reach me at Please provide your email so I can speak with you. The only thing I know about Mary Ellen Ryan is that she married my great-great-grandfather, Granderson Jones, when she was very young. I believe he was a widower before marrying her. Any information you have would be helpful. I'm not sure about her parents, other family members, etc. I do know that she re-married after Granderson died, however I can't find anything on Granderson either. Are you related to her?

Thanks for your help,
Beverly Miller

Mary Ellen Ryan Sharp photo
I just discovered the photograph of Mary Ellen Ryan (Jones) Sharp. She was my great great grandmother. My great grandfather was Marshal Jones, her son by her first marriage to Granderson Jones. This is the first and only photograph I have seen of her and know nothing about her, other than her two husbands names. Any information you could give me on her, her family or any photographs would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for any assistance you can give me.

Rebecca Pickett Curtis
Hi Frieda,

In Rebecca's bio you state it is not known what happened to James William "J.W." Dickey. He died during the Civil War. I can't say for sure since my old computer that has the info about it crashed a few years back, but I think I found that info while searching pension indices under Rebecca's name. But I do know I found it.

I believe I goofed :-) I DO have some various newspaper article I found and I don't believe I sent those to you, although I am not related. There are a few birth announcements, death announcements, will being probated, Kathleen Cottrell Puckett dying in the fire (has a pic of her and the two that died in the fire), article with Kathleen's husbands pic, etc. Send me an email with Cottrell in the subject line and I'll email them to you. May take 2 or 3 emails.

RE: Cottrell
Hello, I'm not related to the family...just take photos. I did a little extra research to find out how Kathleen Cottrell Puckett (memorial #112962755) was related to Frances Farrow Cottrell due to being buried next to each other, and I added a grave photo.
I have sent you an edit request to add Thomas and Frances as Kathleen's parents. Their names are on her memorial page but not as the actual links.
I sometimes try to 'link' family members together. All I have is what I found in documents on Ancestry. Kathleen's obit, 1940 census, birth and death records. Wish I had more for you

Daddy's Girl
RE: Pettit
Many thanks. I'm thinking this child died before the 1870 census rather than in 1885, but I can find no record of death in KY or IN for her. If you have anything at all, it will be more than I have been able to find!! Thanks again.

Daddy's Girl
Re: Mary Alice Pettit
Confused about your Find A Grave entry # 113146168 for her. It shows:

Birth: 1864
Scott County
Kentucky, USA
Death: 1885
Indiana, USA

Father: Charles G. Pettit
Mother: Elizabeth Wright

Mary Alice Pettit was born in Kentucky and moved to Indiana about the same time her father and step-mother moved in 1913. She never married. She is buried in the older section of the cemetery, with no stone.
She can't have died in 1885 and moved to Indiana in 1913. this child isn't listed in the household in Scott Co., Kentucky in either the 1870 or 1880 census. Is there any way you could check your references and advise or update this Find A Grave entry? Thanks for your time.

Well, it has been a year since your request but I finally added the photo and also that of her husband's marker who is buried next to her. Apologies for overlooking your request. Linda

RE: Atkins

Edward is my ancestor too! My mother is an Atkins. I wish we could find old Edward's gravestone. An Atkins cousin of mine, the one who found Thomas and Nancy's gravestones, thinks that he is buried in the same plot or near Thomas and Nancy. I will be in Lexington this summer, to visit relatives. I am planning to go to the Stamping Ground Baptist Church cemetery to visit their graves. How are you descended from Edward? I am descended through Thomas and Nancy's son, Dudley A Atkins. Are you descended from one of Thomas and Nancy's daughters?

Curious about your obituary collection
Hi. I have been doing research on my family and I keep coming to your entries on Find A Grave. I notice that you manage quite a few memorials for the descendants of Thomas and Nancy (Shackelford) Atkins, including the daughters and their descendants (Dalzells, Goddards, Gardners, etc). They are great! I really appreciate all of the details. Who did you get your obituaries from? Are you an Atkins descendant? Did a relative of yours save the obituaries? I have a great grandmother was also saved lots of things - postcards, letters, newspaper clippings, etc. These sorts of collections are treasure troves. Thanks for the great Find A Grave details!

John Goddard land in Scott Co KY
Well, you are technically correct, but I think you should remove the note, because in anticipation of receiving this land from the GLASS estate, he (over the leaf of the GLASS deed page) transferred all of this 112 acres to John Jones, a well-known tavern/inn keeper. I do not think this John Goddard (of Great Crossing) ever retained any lands that approached what became the northern precincts of Scott Co. This was a paper transaction for legal purposes, he had committed to sell it before it was ever transferred to him.

Goddard land
Thanks very much for updating the memorial with the land record, this can help me with a mystery regarding a gravestone for a Lytle's Fork resident that was sent to "Godard, near Georgetown."

Frieda, how nice to hear from you. I do not use my gmail account often so this response has been a long time coming to you.

I surely do remember that delightful afternoon and evening we spent together. You were a big help with my research.

Are you on Facebook? I am. Thanks for messaging me. Nancy
