Laura Wells Ford
Hello, I noticed that on 8-31-2015 you left a thank-you to Luie for linking Laura Wells Ford to her family. She is my great grandmother on my mother's side. Her son (my grandfather) was Lee Benjamin Ford. Do you know anything more about this family? I don't know if my grandfather had any siblings. On my contributor page, I have created virtual cemeteries for the Fords and just now, the Wells. The other virtual cemeteries are for my maternal grandmother's side and my father's side. I appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you.

RE: Waymire family in Yates Center
OK, back in 1965 a gentleman in Yates Center started writing some booklets called "In the Beginning". He published 3-4 booklets each year and they contained various stories and information about early Woodson County up through present day. The last booklet was published in the late 1980's. I have an index of names contained in the various booklets.

In 5 of the booklets I found a reference to the Waymires in Yates Center, Woodson Co. I have copied the articles and put them into a PDF file I can email you. The articles are:
#12 has an article about a man named Alexander Hamilton's Airshipo in 1897. Those signing an affidavit saying they knew Mr. Hamilton for many years was J. Waymire and others.
#26 has an article about banks in Woodson County and it lists as President of Citizens State Bank organized in May 1897 as H. Waymire.
#52 lists officials of Yates Center - April 7, 1897 Mayor, H. Waymire
#59 History of North Maple Grove School District No. 37 It lists teachers of the district and some students. Russell Waymire is listed as though he taught there as I read it. Not real clear.
#77 List of Yates Center High School graduates - Russell Waymire in the Class of 1906.

If you send me an e-mail address I will email the PDF to you.

Waymires in Woodson County KS
I failed to tell you that I looked through the book that lists burials in all the other rural cemeteries. I did not find any other Waymires listed in the rural cemeteries.

RE: Waymire family in Yates Center
OK, went to the library and found the following information:

Woodson Co. KS Deaths 1853-1926 by Call
4 citations for Waymire

The numbers in ( )at the end of each is the book # and page # in the Woodson Co. Clerks office. I was told that doctors went in there and registered deaths and births. The above citations were in the death book. I am guessing that Flossie was the Florence listed above that died at age 6 months. Also....
-----------------------
Woodson Co. KS Birth 1885 - 1928 by Call
only 2 citations for Waymire

John Waymire, 22, and Bessie Rodgers, 19
Female, 1st child, April 29, 1900
Perry Twp (2-39A)

J. L. Waymire, 26, and Bessie Rogers, 24 (note different spelling of Bessie's last name....
Male, 4th child, May 4, 1904
YC Twp (2-57)

Again the reference at the end of each ( ) is the book # and page # in the courthouse records at the clerks office.
I talked to the lady (Call) that did both books and she said that the books at the courthouse MIGHT tell you possibly where they were buried after they died. Back then the records were not real standardized.

I have 1 more item to look up in information I have at home. It may take a few days to do it. If I find something of interest I will contact you further.

RE: Waymire family in Yates Center
Thanks for the note. What I can tell you is this...in the Yates Center Cemetery records show the only 3 listed as being buried there are Hiram, Florence & Russell. About a year ago I helped the lady that keeps the records go through her list and we walked the entire cemetery checking graves. We established a list of people buried there (according to cemetery records) that do not have a tombstone. I tried to make a Find A Grave record for those without a tombstone based upon her records.

After I got your note, I checked the list to see if there were any Waymires on it since only 3 show up on Find A Grave. I did not find any more Waymires. This is all for the Yates Center Cemetery only.

There is a book at the library that has names from may of the other cemeteries in the rural parts of the county. At one time a list was compiled for burials in the rural cemeteries. I will be happy to go check and see if I can find any other Waymires listed in the book. It will take sometime to do but I will get back to you.

RE: Andrew Waymire in Preble County
I was very happy to find his stone. It was buried about 6 inches down. I probed and found it. Then I unburied and reset it. It was in gorgeous condition and had been buried for over 50 years. There were reading done there in the 1960's and his name wasn't mentioned. So it must have been buried long before then. What other ancestors do you have here in the county? I might have run across them but just not posted them yet. I have been working on restoring all the old cemeteries in the county.

Nathaniel Waymire
I changed the Iuka like it should be.

However, he is not buried in the National cemetery. I know that is what his obituary said, but there are many mistakes in those old obituaries. He is buried in the C1 section of the cemetery, which is in the section in front and to the left of the National cemetery. I have the cemetery booklet for that cemetery.

Hello David,
You may go ahead and create the memorial for Jack since I do not have any of his information. I am going to visit my parents in Arkansas City tomorrow so I will try and make a stop at the Dexter cemetery to see if I can find their stone to retake the photo.

Take care
Judy
