RE: Smith graves
Just letting you know that I went to College Corner Cemetery last week and found Albert Smith, Amanda Smith, and Anna Leona Van Ness. I added memorials for them with photos. I hope these are of benefit to your research.

RE: Smith graves
I don't have any family information or stories on the Smiths in College Corner Cemetery. I have Smiths in my family and it is a very difficult name to research. Albert and Amanda Smith are buried in College Corner on the same lot as Arthur. On the same lot is Anna C. Van Ness according to the Cemetery records. I saw the name and then looked for her death certificate to see if she was the same as Leona. has her death certificate indexed as Anna Giona Van Ness. When I looked at the certificate it was Anna Leona Van Ness which I am pretty sure is your grandmother. She died of pneumonia related to the Spanish Flu. It lists her father as Albert born in Decatur County, Indiana. It has her birth date as Mar. 11, 1898 and death date as Jan. 10, 1919 and 24 years old, which does not quite calculate. Amanda Smith's death certificate is also at There is a Caroline Smith who died in 1912 buried in College Corner as well as many other Smiths, Bournes, and DuBoises. The College Corner Cemetery records up to 2006 are online at:

They are not indexed so you have to brouse by date. I hope the link or address works for you. If you want to make memorials for Albert and Amanda Smith and Leona Van Ness I will try to find their graves and take photos when the weather warms up. I hope this information helps in your search.

RE: St Geroge Churchyard
Hi Jeff, I will keep a look out for her maiden name.
It is probably on a CD of Sussex marriages prior to 1837. I have not bought it yet as I think at 23 it is a bit expensive.
regards, Herbie

RE: St Geroge Churchyard
Hi Jeff, Success! I have scraped of some lichen,
just enough to see the names, without doing any damage. Grave is under a willow tree, with not many surrounding headstones. There is a page where you can cross reference by quoting the numbers #

RE: St Geroge Churchyard
Hi Jeff, Sorry for the delay in replying, due to ill health. I have borrowed the St. George's Graveyard register. It would appear that there is no headstone. The burial is listed in an area used for church events.
There may have been a headstone as there is a reference to WSRO (West Sussex Record Office) in Chichester. I will look next time I go there. This is the info given :- "WM ROBINSONdied 12th Jan 1822 in his 86th yr, also his wife, ELIZABETH, died 7th March 1808 in her 68th yr". Regards, Herbie

Orle Ernst
Is your request for Orla Edward Ernst whose wife was Mary Belle Ernst?

If it is, ask CPR to transfer the memorial to you or to correct the name and add the dates.
