Benjamin Patterson, Memorial# 128509552
I saw your interest in this family and thought you would like to know that there is a biographical sketch on them in this book: "History of York County, Maine" by Clayton, W. W., ED., Published 1880, on the page after 168. You can read it on line at I copied some of it in the caption for Benjamin's photo I just uploaded to his memorial.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. I looked at the stone again and it definitely says 4 not 1. What I would be willing to do if she is part of your family is to transfer the grave to you and you could keep the grave as marked but also add the death card to the page as an alternative. Let me know.

RE: Caroline Legare grave info
Linda, I don't have access to the Charleston Courier. Can you just post the obit on John's memorial?

RE: Caroline Legare grave info
Hi Linda, you're right it was Captain John Legare. If you got the obit from the Charleston Times I can get if from that source. I'm going to go back to the burials records to get the complete transcription. It's worthy of that. Thanks for letting me know and thanks for the kinds words about my contribution to Find A Grave. It's been a labor of love.

J. Chapman Moss
Chapman Genealogy
I saw your message about growing up in Possom Kingdom and I thought wow. I have been doing some research on the Chapman Family. Descendents of Thomas Chapman... I am relative thru his son Elias Chapman/Malinda Jordan Chapman/Dr Thomas Chapman (Dock)/married Jannie Smith, Elizabeth Roberts and Dove Laughter. They son John T Chapman is my great grandfather and my dad's grand father. John and Anne Cooley Chapman raised my dad the son of Elizabeth Jane Chapman Ross Whitfield. The research that I had branched off via Hewlett family. I have really found many of the graves of family members and have found many amazing things like John Joseph Cooley (my great grandmother's (Anne Prudence Cooley Chapman was descendent 179 via Lucinda Chapman Elias Chapman's sister. John T Chapman was #211. And that John Joseph Cooley was married to Thomas daughter Emily Susan Chapman and she died and he married Lucinda's daughter Stacy Ann Chasteen his deceased wife's niece.
I grew up with the Babbs, Elbert and Alton's children and Maude Babb not realizing she was Maude Chapman Babb. Just thought that it was interesting that we were living in the same area and probably are kin. I saw the letter from Linda Smith about Carter and Nancy Pinion Chapman whose name was in the genealogy that I have. Carter was the son of Thomas Chapman as I am sure you know. He married Nancy Pinion and they had 14 children. James Chapman being number 7. I am currently updating my family starting with John T Chapman and Annie Cooley Chapman. Getting copies of the graves and any information that I can. Doing mostly for my dad but for family. It is important as you said to record as much as we can so when others look back it will be there. Thanks for letting me vent. Jannette Chapman Moss (June 1 1950) Father: James F Chapman Mother: Ruby Center Chapman.

RE: James E. Chapman family
Linda: I have checked through everything I have and have nothing to add to this family. Have you checked the neighbors on the census records you looked up. I have several reference books that I have and one of the Chapman
family. I don't know if you live close by or not, but I live in Moonville (PIedmont) almost directly across from Greenvile Memorial Gardens. If you and your friend would like to drop by sometime and check through all the info I have, you might come across some name that will help you.
HOw much of here family has she given you. Sometimes you have to start at the back door and work to the front so to speak.

I wish I could help you so I could add it to my family tree. I grew up in Possum Kingdom and most of my Darby Ancesters in Greenville are buried at Oak Hill United Methodist Church not far of US Hwy 25 South of Ware Place.

Pleae let me know either way. My phone number is:
E-Mail: Handling this thru direct e-mail with me may be best and quicker. I check my mail regularly.

Do you have any death or birth certificates of the friends family that I could look at. If so, could you e-mail a copy to me and let me look at them.
