RE: Eli Higgins
Hi Adam-

You're very welcome!

I've actually never talked to the town officials who would have the records for Riverdale. (It's on the "maybe someday when I have time" list - LOL) I do remember someone telling me that some early records were lost, but I don't know that for a fact. It's pretty common with a cemetery this old, though. And there is a good-sized section in the back that has many unmarked graves. In fact, most of the graves in that section are unmarked. But Carrie (Minot) Higgins is in that section, so it's a good bet Eli might be there, too. Although probably not next to her, as this seems to be a section of all single graves - no family plots.

I had a lot of correspondence at one point with Sherry (Higgins) Solomon (Find A Grave: at one point concerning the Higgins/Minot/Burdick families. I was able to give her quite a bit that I had gleaned from Family Search. If you're not related and/or in touch with her, let me know, and I can send you what I have, when I have a chance to put it all together again. I'm sure I must have copies of the emails.

Good luck!

Mary Stanislaw
Sorry Adam, I am doing it again.........

Is the surname "Sowka" her maiden name? I think I might search this name as well as the other spellings.

Just a thought.....

Wow Adam! I had no idea that you had that information. Now I am really out of suggestions.

I do not want you to publically share that information. If you want to e-mail it to me I promise to keep it private and I will destroy the information after I look for clues. My e-mail address is;

Let me think this over. I will figure something out, I promise. I love a

We will find her. I know how important it is to connect with family.

Sorry for the second message but I just had an idea.
I think I am going to look up her obituary at the library. If I locate one, I will be sure to share it with you privately.

Hi Adam,

I have noted the several variations of spellings that you sent along with some I created. I will be going back to search the record book within the week. Hopefully, I will find some connection to her with one of these spellings.

A little note for you..........I did not find any records for the surname Stanislaw.

Do not give up hope. I intend to search thoroughly and creatively. I will keep you informed on my progress.

Hi Adam,
I have searched this name at the Lake County Indiana public cemetery records and could not find Mary Stanislaw listed as being buried at Calumet Park Cemetery. Is there another spelling to the name? Perhaps she is resting at a different cemetery.
I would be willing to re-search for you if you have additional information/suggestions.

I found a stone for the wife of Julian Minot, but could not locate a grave for him. Do you want to create a page for her?
The stone reads:

Addie A. Minot
wife of Julian Minot
1852 1923

This headstone is very worn. I hope this is the correct marker. It appears to be a military style memorial marker. It's very interesting that it is marked Vallie Henry. I couldn't make out the rest of the marker other that some of the date info. I could get the GPS coordinates if you want it.

RE: Re: Eliott S. Higgins, Riverdale Cem.
I gave Sherry a heads-up that you had listed Eli from the death cert and obit, and you might want to read the reply I received (as well as what I posted on her page later). She thinks you have it all wrong - LOL! Just out of curiosity, was the Eliott - as opposed to Eli - on the death cert? And I will continue to look for Eli's grave (both Elis, actually). At some point (probably in the distant future), I will make contact with the overseers of the cemetery to see what their records have. I have so many other resources right now that I've put that on the back burner. Happy ancestor hunting! :-)

Re: Eliott S. Higgins, Riverdale Cem.
I've documented almost all the markers in this cemetery (with the exception of a very few fairly recent "flat" stones that still need to be cleared off and a couple of VERY old illegible markers). I don't believe there is a marker for Eliott Stephenson "Eli" Higgins, husband of Carrie, just as there is no marker for their son. Carrie's marker is in the back section, which consists solely of single graves, and almost all are unmarked.

In all likelihood, Eliott is also buried in that section, and his grave is unmarked. Perhaps the family couldn't afford a marker when he was buried, and later, when hers was marked, they just didn't know where he and the son were buried. They would not be buried together, given the nature of that section.

The cemetery commission might have a record of the burial, but I've heard that their records are incomplete. So far, I've only worked from actual grave markers for this cemetery, so I don't know this for a fact.

Oh, and if you go through the messages posted on my Find A Grave page, you'll see that Sherry (Higgins) Solomon has also been researching this family. Don't know if you know her or how you're related, but just in case, I thought I'd mention it.

RE: Alice Benoit
You're welcome. Should you ever visit again, the stone is slightly to the north-east of the center of the St. Rita section of the cemetery. I took the liberty of entering the other names on the stone to findagrave. If you wish xfer of these memorials to you, I'll be glad to do so.

Has more information on Mr. Minot. His grave is unmarked in Plot 7. Refer to original memorial #61861467. His wife Mildred Minot, (Maiden) Belisle doesn't seem to be at this cemetery.
