RE: Abigail Bradley?
My father was career military and we lived all over, so it was rare to be close enough to come once Vietnam was over. I've moved forty-five times in my life. The relatives here act like they're waiting for something to jump out at them when I'm around some of them. They haven't lived anywhere else and can't imagine why I would.

On my dad's side, our Robinson reunion just turned ninety years old. The Bradley reunion was put asunder by two cousins who just decided for everyone else that it needed to end.

I have old home movies that I threaten to bring out and show to the in-laws. It keeps the relatives in line. :-D

RE: Abigail Bradley?
I think that some is still left in some of the other branches of John's descendants. McKee Bradley was John's grandson and his second wife was much was much younger than he was. Mack was a senior citizen with toddlers named Sleet, Snow and Chilleon (pronounced chillin'). Those were their legal names. Snow's son is younger than my mother, but he's actually in my grandfather's generation.

If you want to see the size of John's farm in what is now Gaston County, go to Google Earth and map out Shannon Bradley Road and US-74 to Broad Street and US-74. Parts of it stayed in the family for two hundred years. I've seen both 1500 and 15,000 acres as the size of it.

RE: Abigail Bradley?
I'm not on Ancestry.com. Beware of any GEDCOM you find on it that was submitted by VIcky Anderson. She takes bits and pieces of others' trees and adds them to her own. She leaves out entire generations in the process and since she never keeps an e-mail address for longer than an instant, you can't even get her to correct her misinformation. Back when Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com began, they gave free access in exchange for GEDCOM files, so I assume that it's why Vicky Bradley Anderson did that garbage. It's frustrating to say the least. These services will not correct any information or pull bogus GEDCOM files, so you're stuck on what to do to make it right.

Suzy Manderson is another direct descendant of James Alexander Bradley. If you google her, you'll find her research online.

James was married a second time, as you will see in the probate papers. His widow took her dower's share when he passed away.

I prefer Familysearch.org because it's more actual documentation than GEDCOM files. It's also free, so I don't waste money on a membership that I don't have the time to use. I'm my own mother's caregiver and my time gets away from me at times.

RE: Abigail Bradley?
I am descended from John McKnitt Bradley, James' brother. My line is this: John McKnitt Bradley and Jeanette Williams, William Dixon Bradley and Elizabeth "betsey" Gibson, Eli Hoyle Bradley and Margaret Elmina Hanna, William Finley Bradley and Mary Frances Howe, Willie Lee Bradley and Martha Lee Robinson, Lewis Herman Bradley and Marie Lawrence. My grandparents and father have Findagrave pages. They are buried at Olney Presbyterian Church in Gastonia.

You should go to familysearch.org and do a search in the probate records for Mecklenburg County. You'll find some interesting information there. There are maps showing the distribution of his property and who got what, along with the infamous court order that will tell you what happened to James.

By the way, are you closely related to Suzy? You should compare notes if you haven't already.

Abigail's son, John McKnitt Bradley owned a good deal of what is now Gastonia, North Carolina. He had eleven children. Abigail was compensated for the death of her husband and the loss of their property to the tune of fifty thousand British pounds. In today's dollars, it would be a little over seven million dollars.

And if you'll take a moment a peruse this book, you'll find some information about Francis' parents, James and Hannah Elizabeth Pelham Bradley. It's in the first chapter.

I was speaking of Abigail Alexander Bradley. Her children were John McKnitt, James Alexander, Rebecca, Esther and Elizabeth Bradley. You left flowers at her Findagrave.com memorial. You said that she was your seventh great-grandmother.

Abigail is my fifth great-grandmother.

Which one of her five children are you descended through?

Elder William Wentworth
Hi Stacie,

I saw your post here on William Wentworth's memorial. He was my 9th-great grandfather as well, which means that you and I are 10th cousins.

Are you on Ancestry.com? Are you currently doing any genealogy research? I'd love to know your lineage from you to William Wentworth. I'd be happy to share mine with you, and to let you see my tree on Ancestry.

Maybe you're on Facebook, or maybe I could convince you to get on there. There are other Wentworths on there who enjoy finding cousins like I do.
