Mount Royal Cemetery Photo Request
Mount Royal Cemetery has 165 acres. The burial plot location must be supplied so a volunteer can go take the photo.

You can get this free information by filling the form here: and in the "Desired Service" field, select "Burial Location (free)" and enter the information.

If the Genealogy page was not helpful then email your request to

The cemetery will email you the location (3-10 working days).

Have the memorial updated with the plot number.

You will have made it possible for the photo to be taken.

RE: Merton Dowsett
Hi there -- I sent you a couple of 'edits' for the record and added a cropped photo -- I also sent an email to Find a Grave to see if they are resolve the issue of the horizontal photo.

RE: Merton Dowsett
You're welcome for the photo -- yesterday when I added the photo it was vertical so not sure why it's horizontal on the record.

I opened the original again and it is vertical as well ??? so mystery.

Let's see if it changes in the next couple of days.

Norman Horner
Hi Ian
I did not see him in that cemetery and suspect he died to recently to be in the A G S's Alberta cemetery database yet.

Could you send more details and I will see if I can find an obituary for him

Hi Ian

Good to hear from you again. Snow has not stopped me yet, though I just heard the road I need to use in an hour or so is closed due to multi vehicle crash, will have to cross my fingers and take a detour. Hope you are doing OK in all the crummy weather you have been having!

David Henderson and Lucinda Bolton
Hello Ian, Although David Henderson and Lucinda Bolton are actually buried at Forfar Methodist Cemetery, they are also listed on the back of the headstone for their son Holmes Haden Henderson and his wife Ida Cecelia Smith, at Portland United Church Cemetery. Pherhaps you could make a note to that effect on the Portland Memorials?
David at Portland #49407368
Lucinda at Portland #49407369
David at Forfar #37822629
Lucinda at Forfar #37822657
Thanks Ian, Regards, Ron Welch.

Thank you for your note Ian. I am delighted and honoured that you would offer your assistance. I know virtually nothing about my grandfather and have not been able to trace his family. I have only recently been able to find out anything about my maternal grandmother. She had to put my mother in care after my grandfather was killed, and they were never a family again. I made a memorial for him, #24500421, and his name is Patrick Downey, reg'l #901442. Thank you for your time and interest.

duplications and getting around!
Hi Ian

duplication happen,

even to the best of people so now you may consider your self to be 'one of the best"!!

my camera and I are rarely seperated, even in this weather it comes in handy in case some ninny crashes into me I can take photos to prove the point! Moose Jaw was a "cheap gambling trip" with a friend, she gambled at the casino while I gamboled through the cemetery.

Hope you and yours have a beautiful Christmas

James Johnson
Hi Ian,

Finished the job today, and while I was there, I noticed that on the back of the James Baxter monument is another name; James Johnson. The dates are 1855-1875. I took a picture if you can use it.

Hi Ian,
My pleasure, it was a great day to walk the graveyard. I didn't find Wm J. this afternoon so I went to the library tonight to check the transcript for a location. I will go back tomorrow and take a picture. Our library has the local paper on microfilm here and it is indexed online, so if you would like me to look for any obituaries or marriage notices, I would be happy to.

My grandfather died in France in 1918 while fighting with the 42nd Bn.
