RE: Swango Cemetery
Judy,
Yes it can get complicated when a cemetery has so many different names and or so many cemeteries called the same name. I did 5 cemeteries in the Calaboose area of Wolfe County and they were all called Banks Family Cemetery and were at 5 different locations. I used the road name to separate them.

Enjoy doing the photographing so will continue as long as the Lord is willing for me to do so.

RE: Swango Cemetery
Judy, I will make a notation of the Swango Cemetery out 746. I was searching for the Swango Cemetery off Baptist Road which I did find. That is also known as Swango-King Cemetery based on the latest obit for a very recent burial. I sure wish there was some control on the names of Wolfe County cemetery names.
Thanks for the info.

Swango Cemetery
Judy are you the one that set this cemetery up? It is off of Baptist Road not 746 and you posted a photo on the Find A Grave website but I can't read any of the names in the photo.

Swango Cemetery
I noticed you posted a photo of this cemetery and wonder if you could tell me how to get there from downtown Campton. I noticed the directions given but I was told it was located on Baptist Road.

Thanks in advance

RE: Lucinda Hollon Swango
Judy,

I'm still unsure where the last number in her death date is 0 or is it a 9 that is not completed closed or part wore off. Her birth year is 1818 on her stone. In all the census Lucinda is listed as born ca 1813/1814... I am more interested in finding her correct death date. Which I think was long after 1880, because of the article in the Hazel Green Newspaper. Why would they have a memorial service for Lucinda 11 years after her death.

Thank you so much for sharing this photo.

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas,

God Bless

Thanks Judy,

No, I don't have the latest copy of the Swango Book... from the photo you took and posted to find a grave, I'm not sure where her death date is Aug 1880 or Aug 1889. It looks like someone has put cement where the year of her death should be and tried to crave a number in.

I did notice Lucinda' birth year is different than on her stone.

Just wish I was able to visit some of these cemeteries in Wolfe Co... but my health want allow me to.

God Bless

Lucinda Hollon Swango
Judy,

I saw you had take a picture of Lucinda Hollon Swango' stone. Lucinda was my 2nd gr grandmother. I have never agrees with the death date for Lucinda that is shown on her memorial. I could make out the month of death on her stone as Aug but no sure of the year, it looked like 1890.

I found the following info in the Hazel Green Newspaper about George W & Lucinda' funeral.

The Hazel Green Herald. May 5, 1891.

The funeral of G.W. Swango and Lucinda Swango, will be preached at the old Baptist Church, on Stillwater, the first Sunday in July, by Elders W.W. Caudle, H.B. Crofford and Barney Blankenship. Services commence at 10: O'clock AM. All invited

RE: Edgar Clay Swango
Judy, If you noticed on Alam' death index it had Alma Lel Swango. I think Alma' middle name was DeLaite, or Laite and someone was having trouble with the spelling or something on Alma' middle name for the death records

Her father I'm sure was Arthur Polly born Nov 1855, Wisconsin and her mother Annette J DeLaite, born Nov 1867, Maine... I took the birth years from 1900, census.

RE: Edgar Clay Swango
Judy,

I have been taking a break from the children of WW Swango... Later I can looked to see what I can find on Alma... I know in the 1940, census she was listed as born Iowa I believe that' where she listed she was born... and she and Stephen were living at the same place in 1935.

I did a search in WA marriages never found their marriage record.

Thanks Judy,

From following Stephen Floyd Swango thru the census, I had thought Alma was his only wife... just his WWI draft card made me stop and think... and wondered why Stephen didn't list his father or stepmother if he was still single. Thanks for Alma' surname.

I found info on Claude B Swango' wife, and her parents.

RE: Edgar Clay Swango
Judy,

You are so sweet not to point out MY BIG MISTAKE... I have William W Swango DC with his death date of 1919. In fact I sent Kendal William W Swango'DC so he can correct William' death date on William' memorial. And have the records on Edgar Clay/Clay Edgar' death date as Dec 11, 1917.... not sure where I was last night when I wrote you that message. Guess old age is beginning to take over.

Yes, it does seem most of the Swango boys were adventurer, except I believe Edgar Clay was a wander.

I'm sure many of the young people left Wolfe Co, because there was nothing for them in Wolfe, like Menifee County except more hard work on a hilly dirt farm and little or no money.

On Stephen Floyd' WWI Draft Registration, who did he list as nearest relative??? I noticed Stephen was working for Weed Lumber Company out of CA., when he filled out his WWI Draft card. Somewhere I found Stephen Floyd listed he was a foreman for Weed Lumber Company, CA.

Was Stephen married only the one time to Alma?

Do you know why Ronald Swango son of Stephen & Alma was listed as Adult Dependent Son of Stephen Swango?

RE: Edgar Clay Swango
Judy,

I've worked on the family of William W & Telitha, this past week. Had William W and his family in my files and two or three years ago when my computer crashed. I lost everything as I didn't have my external hard drive connected right. So I've been trying to rebuild my FT.

I did notice where Clay had been listed on Find A Grave then his memorial removed. I entered Clay back on Find A Grave at FT Sill... I do believe that is where Clay is buried. FT Sill, may have lost his records, this was in 1919, and I'm sure a lot of records have been lost... I know the military has lost some of my oldest brothers records, he has made two or three trips to St Louis, trying to locate some of his records, plus lots of phone calls... some of the records he does have, have incorrect dates. One page will have him at a place on this date... then another page will have him at the same place on a different date, when in fact both are incorrect he was in Walter Reed Hospital state side on that date, not in Korea.

No one knows if Clay even list nearest family to contact should something happen to him.... there was nothing on the record on ancestry as to age, what state Clay was from, how he died... just nothing... If you stop and think who in the family would have been able to take care of arrangements for returning Clay' body to KY. Clay' parents were dead, his sibling all living in other states. Only his stepmother and half brother were still in Wolfe Co. Clay seem to have been a wander, and I'm sure he did not kept in touch with any of his family that much... He could have been dead for months before any of his family knew of his death. My father had a half brother John, who was a wander in his early years. John's family only saw or talked with John one time from the mid 1930' until his death in 1984, and that was in 1952, John showed up at his father' house in Menifee, he visited with his father and other family in KY., stayed about a month and left... When John did settle down he never contacted any of his family. No one knew if John was still living or dead for over 33 years. John' full brother said he heard John died somewhere in OH., in the 1960'. John died in 1984, in Miami, FL. John had lived in this rooming house about 20 years, worked on boats out of Miami, FL. No one at the rooming house knew where John was from or whom to call when John died. About a week after John' death they were cleaning out his room and found a letter or something with John' father' name and Menifee Co, KY., a lawyer called the court house in Menifee Co., and was told to call the bank at Salt Lick, which he did, the bank at Salt Lick got in touch with John' brother... Things like this happen all the time... I'm going to work on trying to find more info on Clay.

Thank you for the info on Robert & Stella' infant daughter. I found her death index on ancestry.

God Bless

Edgar Clay Swango
Judy,

You may remember a few years ago it was in the news were many of the veterans cemeteries had lost records, I believe one of the cemetery had buried people on top of others. I don't remember all the detail now, just it was in the news. I'm wondering if Edgar Clay or Clay Edgar Swango' records were lost. Do you happen to know if anyone has tired to get a copy of Clay Edgar' records from Veterans Affairs?

I know you have visited the Swango cemetery and photographed the stone of William W & Tilitha Swango, what date was listed for Clay Edgar/Edgar Clay Swango' birth. The birth date listed for Clay Edgar on Tilitha' memorial does not match the date listed in 1900, census nor his WWI Draft card.

Thank you for any help.

Judy,

Thank you for your reply. It seem Robert & Stella, moved around quite a bit then. I know daughter Roberts' obit have she was born in Hazel Green, KY., April 27, 1918. Thelma' birth was recorded in Madison Co, and Juanita in Wolfe Co.

As far as Edgar Clay or Clay Edgar Swango, the name he later used. I did a search at the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, they records show Clay E Swango is in fact buried at Ft Sill. site 326.
