Karen, It appears you might know, or have a possible Krohn family connection. If so I have a WWII picture and a Robert Krohn, Youngstown, OH is one of 12 listed on the back. It's nothing fancy but I'd be glad to share.

Hi Karen. I hope it's OK that I transferred her memorial to you. Maybe you can fix any of my errors. I am not related. At age 82 I have health issues. Thanks for your diligent research. Bless you.

Re: Augusta Krohn (nee Luplow) # 89233290
Karen. I'm confused. All my sources say Augusta Krohn was born 1859 in Germany and died Sept 28, 1947 in Youngstown. However I see- Friedericke Karoline Luplow Krohn born 1879 in Germany, died Sep. 28, 1947 in Youngstown. Did Augusta die 2 months after her son, William Martin Krohn # 92485397 was born?
You left me a message that Augusta Krohn was born Oct. 14, 1873 in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany and died Dec. 1, 1897.

RE: Robert H McGovern #977034
Thank you so very much! It is very exciting. A cousin, Mary Ellen Barrett, married Patrick James McGovern (Michael McGovern's 2nd son). I am in the Youngstown area and any help we can get would be great, as of right now I'm the only one working on his life in America. You can email me at Thank you so much for the off and for allowing us to use the photo.

Robert H McGovern #977034
Hi Karen,
I was wondering if I could have your permission to use the photo you added of Robert McGovern. I am from Ohio and am working with the Williamstown Heritage Society in Galway, Ireland. Together we are working on putting together the life of Michael McGovern, the Puddler Poet, from Youngstown. They are working on his life in Ireland and I'm working on when he came to America. Robert is the grandson of Michael and we would love to be able to use your photo if you would allow it

Your welcome. Finally made it out there while the weather was nice and the ground dry. With all flat markers it is more of a challenge, but also fun like doing a puzzle. Good exercise.

Yes, I thought the GPS feature was cool, when I discovered it! If you take grave photos on an iPhone that is GPS time stamp enabled, and upload the photos to the site directly from the phone, it will automatically add the GPS location stamp to the memorial. I'm not sure if other phones do this too, but I assume so. It makes it so much easier for people to narrow their search for a grave, especially in a huge cemetery, if they can see on the map, exactly where it is! I've been taking photos of graves that already have memorial photos, just to add the GPS location. I just upload a new photo, then immediately delete it.. the GPS marker will remain on the memorial!

RE: Hilda Steinbeck Mikulcza
Sure, no problem! Unfortunately, I already deleted the photo from my iPhone, so I cannot add the GPS location stamp to it.. if you want, just copy the GPS coordinates from Hilda's memorial, and add them to Joycelyn's. When you click on the GPS link, it will show you a map of the cemetery, and the exact location of the grave. This will make it much easier if you (or anyone else) wants to visit in person.

You are quite welcome! I'm glad I was able to find it for you, in such a large cemetery!

RE: Re; Ellsworth Towner
You're very welcome. The stone next to Ellsworth was perfect and from the same time period. I often wonder why some hold up so much better than others. I could read the last three letters of the middle name pretty well (ark). Since his dad's name is Clark, I'm pretty sure that's Ellsworth's middle name. I wasn't sure there would be a stone at all as that section had been surveyed years ago. Evidently, the stone couldn't be read at that time either. Glad I could be of help to you. Chris

Re; Ellsworth Towner
Hi Karen: Well, the rain went south and we really could have used it here. So I went to the cemetery. I found Ellsworth's headstone, but it is badly deteriorated. You can only read bits and pieces of it. Disappointing to say the least. I took photos of it wet and dry and one close up. I'll post them all, you tell me which ones you want to remain on the memorial and I'll remove the rest. Chris

RE: Ellsworth Towner
Hi Karen: Thank you for calling. The cemetery is helpful to relatives, they just don't want to be bothered with volunteers. I have claimed your request and will have no trouble finding it. It's raining this weekend so I will try and get to the cemetery during next week. Chris

I notice that you put a request Ellsworth sometime ago. This cemetery is very unfriendly to volunteers and unless we have a location, we are unable to fulfill your request. There are over 80,000 burials at this cemetery. If you would call the cemetery, they will help relatives in ascertaining locations. If you get the location, you can either place it on the memorial through the edit function or message me directly. Their number is 714-633-1442.

I recently received some obits from the Weston (WV) Independent newspaper in the 1920s. There is an obit for Nancy. I am assuming that you are a close relation because you posted those great pictures. If you will contact me at, I'll send you a scan of the obit.

RE: Evans
Oh, that would be awesome, Karen. Wood and Edith are my husband's grandparents and David E and Amelia his Great-grandparents. My husband is named for David E.
I appreciate this so much! We were confused with the different names of the cemeteries, we knew Ben was buried across the street from the cemetery where Fred and Wood were buried, but we didn't realize they are two separate cemeteries. We don't live in the area and at the funerals for Fred and Edith, we weren't really paying attention, I guess.

Thank you soooo much!

RE: Frederick Evans
Karen, yes please. Frederick Evans was my father-in-law. I imagine tracing back far enough there is probably a relationship. My husband is descended from Frederick, through Wood, through David Edward through Benjamin, all buried at that cemetery.
Thank you for taking the pictures and making the page.

Karen, Henry and Julia are my husbands great, great, great grandparents. As you can see my husband is a Steinbeck. Are you related on the Steinbeck or Capito side? I have Henry's father as Frederick and beyond that generation I have no further info. Thanks again, Bev
