Barge Cemetery
I am descended from Mariah Josephine Barge and James Duncan Shi. I live an hour away from the Barge family cemetery and would love to see it. My goal is to further research the Barge and Shi families and their time in Tennille, Sandersville, and Oconee. While I have lived all over this great country, only by chance did I find myself settled in Emanuel County, only to find that my family history runs deep in this area. I am also hoping Mr. Oliver who states he is president of the cemetery might be of assistance, and it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much! Catherine Davis, Daughter of Sandra Shi Wilson, daughter of (Joseph) Emory Barge Shi.

Memorial #182416098
Dr. James McKissack Moore, husband to Sarah Rush Cheairs 1855-1940 Memoril 182416149

Doing research on husband's Cheairs ancestors. I have found an obituary of Dr Moore that says he died in Spring Hill, Maury Co, Tn and was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, Tn. Can't find him listed in that cemetery. Also have a short obit on his wife, Sallie Moore, also supposedly buried in same cemetery and again can't find her listed there. Said she died Apr 28, 1940.

You show Dr. Moore buried in Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park, Dallas, Tx.

Do you know for sure that is where he is buried? You do have him linked to Sarah (Sallie) Moore with notation that no burial site is known for her.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Memorial #8213023
Nathaniel Cheairs 1818-1914

Your cousin and my husband's 3x great grandmother's youngest brother. She was first born and he was youngest. She had married Nathaniel Scott and moved before H.F. was ever born.

In the FindaGrave memorial there is mentioned that his son-in-law Dr. J.M. Moore took his body back to Tenn after his death in Waco.

I have found only 3 children in FindaGrave, no Moore. Found where Sallie Rush married Dr. Moore, but can't find anything else about them.

We took a trip to Spring Hill, Tn and went thru the Rippavilla Plantation house. Enjoyed exploring the grounds and cemetery, where 4x great grandfather is buried.

Holly Springs, Miss.
May 11, 1933

Mrs. Lou Cheairs Bennett, aged 84, the widow of a Confederate veteran, died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Jasper Gilmer, of Hudsonville, Monday night.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Curtis, Methodist minister of Lamar, and the burial was in the old grave yard of the Cheairs plantation, Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Bennett as Miss Lou Cheairs was born and reared in this county on the old Cheairs plantation near Hudsonville. She was married to John Bennett, Confederate soldier, who died a number of years ago. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Hattie Johnson, of Moscow, and several nieces and nephews.

(Will you add this to her bio? I will try later to get her husband's obituary and send it to you.

Memorial #66931184
Nathaniel Scott (1786-1868 - He is my husband's 3x great grandfather. His wife is in the system with two Find A Grave memorials (#83904319 and #106695276). I am trying to get just one of the above memorials for a mother for all their kids (chose Mary Cheairs Scott #106695276 created by Gene Waldrop). What I would like is to put a "note" on any of the children's Find A Grave memorials that you created/maintained with the "other" memorial 83904319 listed.

I am just trying to get all the kids listed on one of the memorials so there is a link. Does that make sense to you? Let me know what you think?!!

Thank you,
bobbie scott

Memorial 52194553
In response to the recent message left by Bobbie Scott in reference to Susan Sedberry Scott Mallard Alexander, Nathaniel Scott moved from Hardeman Co, TN to Tippah Co, MS about 1843. This date is based on deed records.
Susan married in 1844 in Tippah Co, MS. Prior to moving to Tippah Co, MS, Nathaniel and family had lived in Maury, Giles and Hardeman Co, TN. I also have all of Nathaniel's children being born in Tennessee. Nathaniel was my gr gr gr grandfather. I have researched a lot of county records and believe the above info to be correct.

Memorial 52194553
Susan Sedberry Scott Mallard Alexander - She was the daughter of Nathaniel Scott 1786-1868. Her place of birth shows Tippah County, Mississippi. Nathaniel is an ancestor (4x great grandfather) to my husband. He has info that all of Nathaniel's children were born in TN as they did not come to Ms until late 1840s.

Just wanted to throw that out to see if anyone else might have the same info as we do. Am so sorry to see where Nancy Burdrick died...looks like she had a real love for ancestors and history.

I am in Germany on military orders. I will fly home next week, then again in May and June. When, I retire that would be awesome. I am the president of the Barge Cemetery. The twins that passed away are indeed buried in the Barge Cemetery. I can find them, I remember grandma Belle and Paw Paw J. A. Barge Sr. telling me about them when I was young. Opal is my grandmother, but she died when my father was young in a car accident. Belle raise her children, my father and uncle, and then myself. She died my senior year of high school at 83. Just info that I didn't know if you had know. I will keep in touch. I will try to take pictures upon my return to the states and send you a picture of their maker. I believe one of the names was Geradine.

Belle Lock Binghman

I noticed after reading my great granmother's information that her daughter wasn't listed. Aaron Barge was married to Belle Lock and they had J. A. Barge Jr. and Jessie Opal Barge. She is burried next to him J. A. Barge Sr. at the Barge Cemetery in Zavalla, Texas.

I belive they also had twins that died at birth.

J. A. Barge, Sr.

I was reading my Great Grandfather's obit. I notices that his daughter that is burried next to him is not listed.

Jessie Opal Creamer (Barge) is his daughter. It is also listed on the back of his marker.

I see that you sent an edit for her spouse. Are you saying that Earl Snowden was not her 1st spouse? Happy to correct, just unsure if I should unlink Earl?

Thank you for your contribution to the Barge Grave Family. My mother started researching in the 1970's, and I have been carrying on her legacy. I am the 4th Gr Granddaughter of Lewis Barge. You and Pat have been the biggest contributors, and it is wonderful.

Dicey R Turner Massey 1848 - 1885
Hello Tugboat,

I am sorry for the delay in responding to your email back in Oct. I have been researching trying to locate Dicey. I believe she must be buried somewhere in Milam County, Texas. I assume she would be buried here based upon the 1880 Census, because according to the 1900 census, it shows Galloway living in Angelina, Texas. I could not locate census for the 1890's. I will continue to research, keep in touch.
