Are you related to John McKay? His wife was my great aunt. The info I had was given to me by a family member. Thanks for your email. Luteen Carroll

My computer is out and I am only able to do email by phone which doesn't allow me to cut and paste. I am going to transfer her Memorial to you and you can add to her memorial.

Hi Ernest,

Thanks for your research on Helen and Sylvia. It looks to me like all the information is already included in their memorials via the edits. I note that the death index info on Helen's mother's maiden name does not match with her memorial.

Per Findagrave guidelines, the earlier memorial (2009 in this case) takes precedence, you would need to contact the individual that added the 2015 one to have that one removed. I would have emailed you this but I had to post here since you didn't show a return email on the note you sent to me.

RE: James Wilson Dodson
So you think Eliza was in fact Cherokee and not Choctaw? Hmm.

I have the file you requested in PDF. However, it is quite large. If you could send me a flash drive I'd be happy to copy it on there and send back to you.

I learned quite a bit from reading it. One of the things that stood out to me is that Eliza or her family never once mentioned her daughter Mary Angeline Hensley who had apparently run off with her second husband John Wesley Brummett to some believe Illinois (where JW was born). They eventually came back to Hamilton County, TX and Eliza and JW's divorce was finalized in 1879.

It was like Eliza was thinking she's "dead to me". By the way, Mary Angeline gave birth to 18 children with JW. He had fathered three with Eliza. After Mary Angeline died he married one more time and had one more child -- fathered 22 in all. As far as I can tell, two died in infancy and one daughter died at 4 of a snake bite.

Anyway, a little more family history. Is there a way to send you a private message so we can communicate addresses, etc.?

Hello--Thanks for the compliment, I'm glad you like the plot info added. I don't have access to Sparks Springs Cemetery. It would be a long 9 hour drive from me. Sorry. The memorial page for James W. Dodson #7780043 is very well done.

Hi Ernest- You are very welcome for the photos.
I reviewed the Whitaker's memorial pages and I am stumped, how is James W. Dodson related? I am not sure where Spark Springs Cemetery is located. Could you give me the memorial page number? Most of my work is at Seaside Memorial Park, Texas.
Bye for now, Peggy

RE: James Wilson Dodson
I wonder if any of the Hensleys would talk with me .. I am after all directly related to them. I have also just discovered some Brummetts around where I live (Lubbock).

I stumbled across Eliza's cattle brand a couple of weeks ago ... something I've been wanting to find for a long time. I also have a copy of the transcripts and depositions when your great grandfather and her and her family were trying to get onto the Choctaw rolls.

I actually believe there is some Choctaw but there was something else going on in that family at the time that seemed to have pitted them against one another (it shows up in the transcripts). They were originally enrolled and then it was overturned from lack of solid evidence -- but that seemed to me to have occurred because it was a case of two sides of the family (he said-she said) and each had a different opinion. Can't say as I blame the council for turning them down.

I have read how prominent she was in Jack County and I just know there must be a picture of her somewhere. I would love to have a copy of the article you mentioned. I do have the writeup in the Jack County history book.

Thanks so much for responding.

Sharon Hall

P.S. I have a history web site -- I write articles about all sorts of unique and unusual events in history. My favorite day is Tombstone Tuesday when I pick a random grave, research the person and write their story. The address is www.digging-history.com.
