Mark,

The marker for Juan presents some challenges in that the engravings were made at different times and handled multiple times. I have posted an image but will probably go back to see if I can at least improve his name and date.

My thought was to improve the last four encryptions so that his name stands out. This is in a section that is for ashes/urns.

RE: Headstone Photo?????
The only error was with my taking a picture of Gail that I added under "Grave" instead of "Person" removing the same photo and making sure "person" was the category that I put it in and adding the very same photo that I had just removed. You have not done any volunteer photos I see, only requested them. When you add a photo the default is "grave". If you are adding a photo of a person and not a grave marker, you scroll down from grave and find "person". That way the memorial does not look as if someone has added a grave photo, it shows that a person photo has been added.

RE: Headstone Photo?????
I DID NOT DELETE ANY PHOTO EXCEPT TO CHANGE IT FROM GRAVE TO PERSON!! NOR DID I TAKE ONE OF THE GRAVE MARKER. I WAS ADDING PHOTOS OF THE PEOPLE ON THEIR MEMORIALS AND WHEN I CHANGED THE ADDED PHOTO FROM GRAVE TO PERSON IT DID NOT TAKE. I DID NOT EVEN KNOW THERE WAS A REQUEST FOR A GRAVE MARKER PHOTO UNTIL I GOT THE MESSAGE THAT YOU WOULD BE NOTIFIED THAT THE PHOTO REQUEST HAD BEEN FULFILLED. I TOLD YOU I KNOW WHERE THEIR (WELL YOU JUST ASKED FOR GAIL) GRAVES ARE IN THE CEMETERY AND I WOULD TRY TO GET OUT THERE TO REALLY TAKE ONE OF THE MARKER. I'M NOT GOING TO GO OUT THERE AND SWEEP MARKERS TO TAKE A PHOTO.

WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE FACT WHEN I TRIED TO ADD A PERSON PHOTO THE PHOTO SELECTION WAS STILL ON GRAVE.

RE: Headstone Photo?????
CHILL! I didn't even know there was a request for the marker until I evidently did not put "person" instead of "grave" on the memorial when I added the photo. I added a bunch of photos today. I did correct it and put "person" instead of "grave" so the memorial no longer shows a grave marker photo.

I know right where the graves (hers and Bud's) so I may get out there to see if the snow has melted enough to be able to see the marker.

canceling photo request
Do not cancel photo request unless you have direct knowledge concerning the requests.

If you are not involved, leave them alone!

You have caused a great deal of work for several people. Not just me.

Greenwood Cemetery
Hi Mark:

I had submitted 4 photo requests for Greenwood Cemetery and today I received an "error" report on them because of Greenwood Cemetery's policies about providing locations of graves.

I have been to Greenwood Cemetery and I am aware of the policy and the problems it presents to someone like yourself who is trying to locate grave markers in the cemetery. However, because those error reports were generated, the photo requests were removed from Find-A-Grave. I know people who do search for graves at Greenwood in spite of their policies and I would like to keep the photo requests active in case someone wants to search for them or even comes across them while searching for another grave (which happens a lot in my experience of looking for graves).

I plan to resubmit the requests and I am asking you to allow them to stay active on the site. I understand if you don't want to search for them and I appreciate your efforts.

Thanks.

Scott

Removal of photo requests
Please do not remove photo requests because they have no plot location. People have been known to happen across these when they are walking rows at large cemeteries. In fact I had two last week that were caught at the large Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles CA.

My husband and I are going to be buried at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

The marker for the my husband the veteran, is free of charge. But when they replace it and add my information on the back, there is a $300.00 charge.

This was confirmed by the ladies in the office yesterday. I am not saying that is why Betty hasn't been placed with her husband.

I am merely passing on what the staff at Iowa Veterans Cemetery relayed their experience has been.

In my own family, my sister has kept a dear friends remains for over 10 years. Another sister has remains of two of her children that passed before her. In both cases, having them close brings them comfort.

I will continue to watch for Betty, on my weekly outings to the cemetery. I will get a photograph once she arrives.

Have a great day.

40 degree weather today. Went to the cemetery. I checked the wall and only James is listed.

I also went to the office. Betty is preapproved to join James, but the family has not made arrangements at this time.

They thought that there may be a financial issue.

Here is a link to her obituary.

It states that a Celebration of life will be held at a later date with interment at the cemetery.

Evidently that just hasn't happened as of yet.

Mark, I suggest you call the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. They can verify one way or another.

I suspect that the the original poster assumed that Betty would be placed with her husband, and created the memorial. It could be that she will be eventually, but currently remain with family.

Here is the contact info for the cemetery:
34024 Veterans Memorial Drive
Van Meter
Dallas County
Iowa USA
Postal Code: 50003
Phone: 515-996-9048

Weather permitting, and if the wreaths have been removed from the graves, I will be at the cemetery next weekend photographing. I will double check the wall plate to verify that she has not been added.

Hi Mark,

I photograph this cemetery every week. Each week I check to make sure that Betty is not with her husband.

She is on my list to check each week as she has a memorial on Find A Grave in this cemetery.

I also checked the Nationwide Gravesite Locator (who has each and every person buried in a National cemetery) and she is not listed anywhere.

I will continue to check each week (once the wreaths come down and the weather gets just a little warmer), and if her family brings her to the cemetery I will get a photo.

Deb
