Just wanted to let you know that your
Find A Grave Memorial# 131064024
Find A Grave Memorial# 42510493

are the same person.
My guess is when the cemetery set up markers they misspelled his name

Thank you for your edit suggestion. I have transferred Betty's memorial to you as she is not related to me, and you seem to know more about her family than I do. Thanks again!

Thank you for the two photos of Holbrook's marker. I like the fact, too, that you took them at two different times of the day. If you haven't read him, do! Especially his "Murder Out Yonder."

John Robert McNamara

I uploaded a photo of what I believe is his marker. The last name on the marker is Mack. Apparently, they changed their last name from McNamara to Mack. His obituary has both Mack and McNamara.

The marker is near the one for Michael Mack (Find A Grave Memorial #66801793)and Bridget Mack (Find A Grave Memorial #66801827) who are probably his parents.

Does your research also indicate the name changed?

I am not related to the family. Just working on documenting Calvary cemetery.

Benard McCaffry
I got your suggestion for his memorial. I looked up the death record, and it says it is for Barney McCaffry. I also saw the record for Lizzie. Do you happen to live in the John Day area? If so, could you look up the death notice in the newspaper at the library? If not, I think I'll leave it as it is until I have a chance to do further investigation when I get back to town.

James R Kingsley Death Cert

James R Kingsley is my maternal great-grandfather. Your notes reference a death certificate - would it be possible to get a scan of that doc?

This line has proven to be tricky since I've mislaid my grandmother's notes - too many boxes of things since folks passed...

All the best,

Orpha Ellen Boles
From what I understand, the original cemetery was called "Buzzards Roost", before it was moved to it current location. I think the records indicate there are 2 or 3 graves still located in the old cemetary. The Church that was associated with New Salem was torn down a few years ago.

Orpha Ellen Boles
According to the list of burials at "New Salem Missionary Baptist Church and Cemetery", Orpha Ellen Boles was buried there on 20 May 1938. New Salem is known by the names Big Lick and Goochs Mill Cemetery. There are two cemeteries named Goochs Mills, one for white people and one for black people. The person who prepared the cemetery listing was "Hattie Boles", sister of Orpha. Hattie Boles was the secretary for the New Salem Baptist Church, and she was buried there 21 April 1979.

Robert Johnstone grave
My great-great uncle Balfour Johnstone and his wife Minnie are buried at Mt. Hope in Chicago, CA. There is a grave of a Robert Johnstone there (an 11-year-old)there as well. There is a note on this memorial page that a Minnie Johnstone and Thomas Johnstone are his parents. Can you tell me if this is on the headstone or where you found that information? I don't know if they had any children, if this is the same Minnie Johnstone, or maybe she was married previously? Let me know, Thanks, Karen

Bren, my name is Lisa King and I am the daughter of Bert and Eleanor Clark, who you made memorial pages for. I already have pages for them under Bert William Clark and Eleanor Maud Given Clark. Could you remove yours from the web site please?
Thanks so much.

Thanks Bren- I am working today to finish my listings R-Z, and trying to figure a way to add a day to my Oct trip up there so I can get more photos-- that's if the weather is reasonable. I see some Whites that probably you have put in there, and they have photos-- Fannie, Joseph and Shallum. Did you know there's another Shallum P White listed, 1861-1928? Sounds like a generation above Joseph... take a look later today after I post. Keep in touch- Kris

Hi- I would love any information you have on locations-- I actually photographed the plot map last time I was there, though parts of it are less readable. If it's easy for you to do I would be glad to add the information. I'm transcribing the cemetery-- at the loading stage now and finished today through K with what I have. It's going pretty quickly at this point, hope to have it done very soon. What a beautiful cemetery! I originally visited it because of a photo request, I live in Nampa but was up there on vacation. I figure the entries here will make it easier to add photos-- are you up there doing that? -Kris

Thank you, I have added the information you sent for Sarah. Wondering now, would you like for me to transfer her memorial to you since you have relative connections and I do not? Just let me know.
