RE: Conrad Family Cemetery
Terri,

Thanks for the fast reply. I am going to be at a family reunion in Ohio later this spring (Varners). My mother is a Varner (married to Stephens), my grandmother on my mom's side was Addie Conrad (married to a Varner), my great grandparents would be Napoleon and Martha Conrad, and my great, great grandparents would be David and Susan Conrad. 3 of the 4 are apparently buried in the Conrad family cemetery (according to Find a Grave), but Martha Conrad is in the Mingo cemetery.

After leaving the reunion, my wife and I are traveling in West Virginia for a while, I found out from an aunt (age 91) a few days ago about a cemetery she visited in Valley Head many years ago. She said it was on top of a hill and had a Conrad grave. I am guessing that it was the Conrad family cemetery. It is just kind of dumb luck that our trip takes us right through Valley Head and Mingo.

By the way, do you know also if the Mingo cemetery is open to the public? I sent an e-mail to Randolph county today asking about this cemetery because there is not much on the net.

Thanks for the help. Part of the family reunion is a Varner-Conrad geneaology session, run by some of my cousins who have been into the topic for a while.

DO you know how I can get access to the Conrad Family Cemetery? My wife and I will be visiting the area in the near future and the Conrads are my relatives. Thanks for the help. I am new to the Find A Grave site.

Hi
Are you sure this memorial for James C Hupp in Gravel Bank Cemetery is correct? I think that is his birth date, not the death date. Family Search had him living in Marietta yet in 2009. Thanks.

Hello! I'm not sure why I've not seen this sept 2016 message before today but my mind scares me most days! Thank you so much for taking the time to say hello to Brett and for watering his roses. Red was one of his favorite colors ( along with purple as you could tell from the big flower!) and my husband has babied that rose bush. The caretakers at the cemetery have been so kind as well with the mowers and weed hackers. We talked with them about it one day & they could not have been more understanding about our desire to see it grow. I think we have passed the critical height now. We spent The week before and Christmas up there. It was so nice to be with Brett and my father in law on Such a blessed day. My husband is going back up soon to work on his " honey do" list at our cabin. I'll make sure he says hello to your family when he goes up the mountain to see ours. Thank you again & again for your kindness. We love him so much. Best to both of you, Mona

Hi Terri
Thank you so much for stopping to say hello to Brett and the water for the Rose bush! That's so very kind of you. We are amazed at how much his rose bush has grown this summer. We thought the heat would for sure kill it. But, as you can see it's doing great! I think it's in such a lovely place and so close to heaven. That's why it's doing so well. We continue to leave his dimes and actually had a couple dollars worth that we hid close to his headstone. Then we started all over. Other people leave them for him. It touches my heart. We just missed you! We were up for a week doing some work on the cabin and left Wednesday August 31. I will make sure i visit with your family when we see Brett and his grandfather. Brett has great grandparents, 2x great, 3x great grandparents in The cemetery so we spend quite awhile " visiting", cleaning headstones and delivering flowers. Hopefully during one of our visits we will have the opportunity to meet each other. Have a wonderful Autumn. Best, Mona

Wow, that is great !! This is the kind of thing that really helps. I am always worried that I am spreading mis-information that will live after me.

Thank you so much !! T

It's not a problem! I'm hoping to convince my Aunt to make the trip up to go there! I believe the old homeplace is there as well, so I want to go there as well! Thank you so much for looking! I appreciate it!

RE: Henry C. Swadley
I was so very very excited until I started looking at dates. According to the Wedding Cert (THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT !!) HC would have been born in 1860 to have been 60 years old in 1920 (the date of marriage). His first child (Lavina) with Nancy McAtee was born in 1872.. HC at age 12? Unless he lied about his age (actually 71 in 1920)....???? Everything else makes sense, he did live near Lecompton, KS and the death of wife Nancy McAtee in 1914 (his youngest child then aged 32) would have left him free to go back to WV and find a new "young" widow. It is all fascinating. Thanks again for the Wedd. Cert. and if I can share any info with you I am more than happy to. I just love the idea of old man Henry lying about his age to get a young wife, maybe he lied to her, too. ???

Yes! That would be great! Thank you! I did know about the memorial, but the only picture there is of the grave is the main picture of the Brick Church Cemetery entrance. I'm still searching for a picture of them in general. It's been extremely hard! I have portraits of Nettie's mother, and of her and James' children. But none of Nettie or James. Thanks again!

Hi Teri, Her grave maker is added. If by chance you get a better on, please let me know. I could delete mine. The day I was there a couple weeks ago was very sunny and hot! I also noticed there are two linkages to her husband. Thought you would like to know.

Hello,

I am a Knapp & a Summers descendant - both intermarried with this family.

This week I was contacted by a descendant of Ashford Kisner Find A Grave #58528431 stating he is also a son of Samuel Leonard Kisner but I am unable to confirm. I have found an Ashford Kisner b. @1828 residing with Jacob Kisner in 1850 Hampshire Co, (W)VA.

Hoping you can provide insights? Thanks!

You guys do the same. Everything looks great to me! As usual! We are going up to WV this week. I'll try again for the photos using a camera instead of my phone or iPad. Maybe one day we will be there at the same time. Take care. Mona

I work from an IPad and the photos oddly enough looked right side up to me. In any event I deleted all of them so you may add yours. The Maces are my husbands great and great grandparents. Thanks and have a nice weekend. If there are others from Mingo cemetary that you bump into from me that are not showing correctly just let me know. Mona

Yes, This is a very weird situation. I see it correct at home and upside-down at work.
2 people I've forwarded this too see it correct as well. I am not sure what the issue is. Unfortunately there is no easy way for me to fix it.

RE: Brett's memorial
Terri and Stan
Thank you so much for your note and for adding the photos to Brett's page. I have not figured out how to do that. Brett's Cross was set on what would have been his 28th birthday. July 7, 2015. How kind you were to take the time to say hello to him , snap the photos and post them. We live in NC but my husbands family all are from the area. We have a cabin just a few mikes from the cemetary. I don't get to visit as often as I like but my husband gets up that way on a very regular basis. You would have loved Brett. He was such a wonderful and loving young man. We miss him so much. He is the younger
Of twin boys. Anthony is his twin brother. Brett died unexpectantly at home in his sleep. Quite a shock that I don't think we will ever recover from. We were blessed to have him in our lives for almost 27 years. Thank you again. When you stop by the cemetary again, please say hello to him. If you will let me know your relatives, I will do the same for you. have a blessed day.

Thank you so much for the obituary. I have added it and corrected information. I have sent an edit to have Laverne linked to her mother. I see Kenneth Dodrill has Laverne's memorial.
