RE: Photo
Sorry for your experience with a user insisting on enforcing a copyright. This runs counter to the purpose of Find A Grave in that it places a research burden on users to document rights ownership, which can be a more onerous task than doing the family research itself.

The issue of copyright seems to me to only apply where people are posting images they personally created. When posting scanned images of people, my guess is that very few could prove copyright ownership, and in many cases according to strictest interpretation, they are themselves copyright violators for scanning the work of others. In some cases where photos include persons of known death dates, it should be possible to prove that photographs have lapsed by law into the public domain. This would be true without regard for possession of an original print.

I feel that copyright law should be changed to exempt family historians from these ridiculous burdens.

Lots of people play amateur lawyer and cite Find A Grave rules about posting obituaries. I wish Find A Grave had provision to post details that would be made public at some future date when allowed by law, but visible privately only to contributors. There are privacy issues inherent in identifying survivors, for instance. But the larger issue facing Find A Grave is legal action by vulture funeral directors who view their obituary transcription to be a fully copyrightable creative work same as a book or publication. This is silly, given they do nothing more than transcribe what is reported to them by the family. But the fact remains that they have identified this as a revenue stream. Where individuals such as you or me would likely never be targeted by a lawsuit, Find A Grave, now owned by Ancestry.com is another story. Lawsuit is an exaggeration - but lawyers know that they can nick $10,000 or $20,000 with a demand letter because these battles cost more to fight than to settle.

I think it is very ugly business for anyone posing as a Find A Grave contributor to arbitrarily take action to obliterate the memory of the deceased. They may have a legal basis to indulge their bossy enforcement, but the plain fact is none of us will live forever, and demanding that anyone with living interest in a deceased person wait until all legal encumbrances expire before posting information is in essence an obliteration of the historical record and documentation of the deceased lives.

These people are in the wrong place to be behaving like that.

Jeannie,
I added a copy of Thad's WW2 draft registration - it has his birth date. His wife Inez Alma Fields {# 94027882} was my father's 1st cousin.

Mars Hill Cemetery is divided in 2 sections-one east of the church and one west of the church.
We searched the east side today but didn't find he grave. We will search the west side next time we go to this cemetery.

You are very welcome. I do hope that the newer picture meets your needs. It is larger and easier to read than the previous one. If there is anything that would make these pictures better, let me know and I will try to assist in any possible.

RE: Smith's at Alton Cemetery
Jeannie,

You are very welcome. I did not find any grave indication for Jane Towson Smith. There was a lot of overgrowth that had been cleaned up and the trees that are there have intruded so they could have been destroyed, broken or buried. If I go out there again, I'll see if anything turns up, but it is not likely. We photographed everything we could find. We even found one for Lemuel Fletcher that had fallen and was partially obscured by a large Pine. It's an interesting place. I believe the house is quite old, but one of the previous Owner's put in a hot tub directly adjacent to the graveyard. Odd choice and it looks out of place - to each his own I guess. In any case, it is still a beautiful resting place with lovely views.

RE: Lula Hubbs
Jeannie - Glad to help.
I also took photos of the other Hubbs family member's markers, even though they aren't located near Lula's. I've often found that people want the complete family, if possible.
I was going to add them, but ran out of time. If they have a page on Find A Grave, send me the link and I'll add them also.

Hi. I claimed the request you posted awhile back. I had went to the cemetery and could not locate a marker for her. I sent a message to the creator of the memorial, looking to see if they saw a marker and where was it located. They never got back with me and it expired. I'm going back this weekend and will look again for her.......Steve

Sorry about the quality but I had to cut the photo down a lot before Findagrave will be it on the memorial. The names on the marker are: Martha Martin and husband George. The dates match the ones that you submitted. I will try and get a better photo.

Jeannie,
The names are John and Sarah. I cannot make out the dates. The marker has considerable weathering. It is about 40 miles one way from my home. If I am in the area again I will take a brush and water and try again.

TPE
RE: Pearl Goode
Hi there, I made a trip recently to Weedon to take a picture of my great-great-grandmother's headstone (which I also posted), and while I was there I snapped photos of some neighbors. I discovered once I got home that Pearl was one of the very few at Weedon that had not been documented, so I added her memorial. Even at full resolution, it is very hard to make out the letters at the bottom of the headstone - it appears to be the letters GOOD, but strangely, no E. They're so faint that I didn't even notice them in person. I hope that's helpful! Thanks for writing!

Elias Lee
We photographed all of the graves in the Lee Family Cemetery in Early County, but did not find his grave there. We are told that there are 2 Lee Family Cemeteries. One brother's (Elam)family is buried in the one in Early Co. and the other brother's (Elias) family is buried in the one in Clay Co. We have not located the cemetery in Clay Co. yet, but some graves, including that of Elias, are listed there on Find A Grave. We believe this is the correct place of burial for him. Elam Lee's family cemetery is not far from the Clay Co. and we have been told that the properties of the two brothers were close together.

Holder, Madolyn
I added Madolyn Holder to Blues Hill Cemetery. You are requesting a photo. So...are you the one that put the inquiry about more information?
I obtained my information from Warren County, Tennessee Cemetery Book 1, page 122. It has

"HOLDER, Madolyn. Born and died 24 Oct 1927. [Daughter of Dewey and Hattie B. Holder.]"

I hope this helps. I looked in all 4 books for Dewey and Hattie B. Holder. They aren't listed. If you want, I will transfer Madolyn to you. Any burials that I have added that are not related to me, I will transfer. And any that you can show closer relation than me, I will transfer.
