I agree - but I understand that things not so flattering would be linked and there's really no way to adequately monitor that. Glad you enjoyed it. I always feel like it makes the people who have passed live on when I can get a little glimpse into the people they were before they were just a memorial on this site.

I enjoy reading old newspapers (Library of Congress website) and trying to match the people in the stories to the memorials on Find A Grave. I found a wonderful, compassionate story about the spouse of Effie Sutherland (Herbert Sutherland #7782077) in The West Virginian (Fairmont WV) of 10/10/1916, talking about his dedication to obtain release of a recent immigrant from Ellis Island. I thought you might enjoy reading this.

Yes, thanks. However, I have the same obit typed out. I would have simply posted the obit from the newspaper as you have, except the Find-A-Grave administration has advised they prefer obits being typed to the bio section of the memorial, not posted as document. Since I have many posted as cut outs taken from a newspaper, I've gone to taking the time to type them out in accordance with Find A Grave's recommendation.

I'll look into that for you and see what I can find out in the near future. I'm trying not to get too far in over my head with this..( heh heh, that's not working out ) I'm having to focus on one part of my family at a time ( for as much accuracy as I can get ) then move on to another depending on research results. It might take me a while...Most of my Brown family ( my mother's family ) are buried at 'Low Gap' Memory Gardens over at Madison WV...I'll keep in touch with you ...Dwight D.

I've found Ocie listed in two US Census records listing her parents and siblings...( match). Please feel free to contact me if needed. Dwight D Halstead

|Jerry M Weikle||James Wickline in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Raleigh County.|
Thank you for connecting Floyd Wickline with his father, James Wickline.
I don't know if James Wickline has a headstone or not; I've not been able to travel over to the Oak Grove Cemetery to look and photograph.
Even with Mary Ann Raines, who would be Floyd Wickline mother, the death certificate(s) for her don't specify a cemetery. However, there is a Mr. Raines, who was buried in the Riverview Presbyterian Cemetery, who might just be her father. His name was Floyd Raines. Now, given the death certificte for the Mr. Raines and the dates of birth and death on that death certificate, it might be that the Mr. Raines, is Floyd Raines and possibly he is one of the 'unknown graves' at the Riverview Cemetery. I suspect, that Mary Ann Raines Wickline, would be buried near her parents. The possibility of 3 of the 'Unknown Graves' that are in that cemetery. Yet, the existing records are inconclusive.
If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

Okay, thanks Penny. I have gone back to some of my memorials and found typos. I hate to make one on someone's memorial, so I just wanted to check. Please correct any of mine that you may find. Good idea adding the note.

|Arley Meadows||Henry Anderson Britt|
Was he a son of William S. Britt and Martha Ann Jane Smith? Martha Smith Britt married Nathaniel Meadows (my great-great-grandfather) in 1875; she inherited much of his estate when he died in 1876. I am trying to locate a Family Bible that was listed in the appraisal of that estate, a Bible that Martha took as part of her widow's due. I am trying to determine if that Bible is still in the Britt family. Can you put me in touch with any Britt family members?

Thank you so much for all of the editing. I am a Hurt/Warden descendant and have had a lot of family in the area for years, so as I work o the family, I try to work on their memorials, if people will let me. I am glad you posted their memorials, because the Hill Top cemeteries are confusing to me. Their death certificates state they are buried at Hill Top, not Oak Hill, so I would have added them to the wrong cemetery. I'm in Florida, so it's hard to do all the footwork. I will continue to work on this family, and I will let you know about any Sun connections I come across.

|John Gavin, FL||O'Connor family in Randolph county, WV|
In case you're still interested in the Corley and Skidmore families of Randolph County, WV, I found a book published in 1912 that has some nice biographical information for Manoah Corley and family and their connections with the Skidmore family in old Virginia(WV).
It can be downloaded from the online library at FamilySearch.org by running a search on 'Upper Monongahela Valley'.
"Genealogical and Personal History of the Upper Monongahela Valley", by JM Callahan. should be near the top of the result list. See pages from 779 forward.
Hope all goes well.

Hi Penny, I found a lot of 'rocks' there I believe you are talking about and have no idea either who they are. I heard about the woman reselling plots but didn't know much else about it. I will go back maybe in the spring and try to do some more. I appreciate all the hard work you have done on this cemetery. It takes a lot of time!

Penny, I posted a better pic of this headstone so the DOB and DOD can be read if you want to update.
