I find that taking some flour along and putting it on the headstones then lightly brushing it off will highlight the inscriptions a little better. Then I wash it off afterwards.

Would the owner allow you to take a picture of the whole cemetery and post it on the cemetery's main page here on Find A Grave?

I would guess that his headstone is buried too since he died 3 years before his son. Great that you found his son. You might take a rake.

Blk 15 Lt 8 Gr 11 headstone is H. C. Allen Born 1864 and Gr 12 is C. R. Allen Born 1851.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Gophers had buried H. C.'s headstone and the rain made it mud and imposable to read. Its dry today so cleaned it up and found it to be H. C.
I'll check with the office Monday to see if I have the right place.
