RE: Evergreen in Perry, GA
Sorry, hit the wrong key. I would be glad to take any of the Evergreen entries. I have been trying to update the information in some of the entries by going through old newspapers and other materials available. It is fairly easy to transfer as long as you have my Find A Grave #. Thanks.

Diana Donaldson Blair
Hi there. My name is Diana Donaldson Blair and I am a distant cousin of yours. My great grandfather was George and Susan Donaldson's son, Matthew. After he passed away, his widow Epsie and their children moved to Robertson Co, Texas, including my grandfather Earl Clayton Donaldson.

Like many, I have been searching for information on George and Susan's family line for awhile. In any event, I just wanted to reach out to you and introduce myself.

Your Texas Donaldson cousin - Diana

RE: Boozer Cemetery
To get there from Piedmont, go south on Hwy 21 toward Jacksonville. Turn right on Merrellton Road. This road is small and only on the right so it is easy to miss. If you get to Parker-Hanifin or Federal Mogul you have gone too far. After turning right, go about 1 mile and the cemetery will be on the right, but it is set back from the road a ways. I live in the area so if you need more help please feel free to call me at 256-239-9887.

George & Susan Donaldson
Gretings from Alcoa, TN

We are obviously related in some way. I am the gg granddaughter of George & Susan Payne Donaldson, through their son, Henry Donaldson. Would like to compare genealogy notes. I have a copy of Henry's death certificate. This is how I knew who his parents were and where they were from. Have lots of info on Henry's family. Look forward to hearing from you.

RE: Antioch Cem. location
Hi Cecilia,
Here's how you can find the location of Antioch Cemetery on the internet.
Type in "Antioch Cemetery, Cleburne County, AL"
Look for "Cleburne County, AL Cemeteries--Alabama Gazetteer" at
Do you have any family members living in that part of Alabama? I've often thought about going back to visit the cemetery and placing a military tombstone there for my great-grandfather, William Torrance.
I suppose I could rent a 4WD vehicle and drive in. I think I would probably need a GPS system to locate the cemetery since we had trouble finding it in the 1980's.

RE: related?
Hi Cecilia,
My brother and I visited Antioch about 20 years ago with my mother's brother. The road was in bad shape but he was able to get through in his pick-up truck. My parents visited the cemetery in the late 70's or early 80's. The road was in good shape then because the timber company had graded the road so they could haul out logs. My dad drove there in his Ford LTD. Our related families lived in the area of Antioch due to the price of land which could be purchased from the government. They would grow food on their farms and try to find other work in the area. My great-grandfather walked from that area down into Borden Springs to work in a coal yard.
He did this walking with a stiff left leg caused by a bullet during the Civil War. He's buried in an unmarked grave at Antioch
I noticed on the 1900 census for Cleburne County that my maternal grandmother, Julia C. Lorren, was living next door to Lou and Flem Donaldson.

RE: related?
Hi Cecilia,
We're related. My great-grandfather, William W. Torrance, was the brother of Louise Frances Torrance. My grandfather, Jasper Newton Tarrance, was married to Julia Lorren. Both were born in Cleburne County. They moved to Ashville (St. Clair Co.) about 1914 and are buried at Reeve's Grove Cemetery in St. Clair Co. Here's my line:
William Torrance--Jasper Newton Tarrance--Clidie Marie (Tarrance) Hathcock--Larry R. Hathcock
I began doing research on William W. Torrance in the early 1980's. I knew he was in the Civil War, had fought at Chattanooga, and received a pension from the State of Alabama. After going to the Alabama Archives I discovered that he had fought in Company "K", Fifth Georgia Infantry. He'd buried in the Antioch Cemetery near Borden Springs. I don't know the exact location since there's no tombstone. I'd be glad to answer any question you may have.

I have no idea how they met, never really thought about it!
I know he had young children to raise and needed a wife to care for them. Although Grandma Smith, his mother, helped to raise them. Don't even know how long after Sarah died that he remarried! Lots of questions no one knows the answer to, just did not stop to ask while the ones with answers were still alive. If you wanted to add his first spouse, her name was Sarah Elizabeth Hales Smith. Sure anxious to get Macon to check out that gravesite!

Thanks, no I have never seen this picture! Was it with Charlene's pictures? Bet you have some good ones!
So glad to see it! Can you add his name and birth to granddaddys site, all his children are listed but him?
And yes he is handsome! Do you know anything about his daughter, Bonnie Ruth? We think my brother David favors him!

I live in Tifton. 100 miles south of Macon on I75.
I looked for the Smiths on Find A Grave and none showed up. Several years ago I went to the Rose Hill website and downloaded a pic of some of the graves. And I have been there many times but not in a long time. Last time I was there was when Uncle Floyd was buried, not sure the year. But I will let you know when I go. My daughter just retired and has offered to go with me, so it is her decision when to go.

That's great! I love family history too! So glad you have a pic of Sara Letha, mama had one that I know of but who knows where it wound up! I will post a pic of mama later today when I get on the computer, mostly use iPad. Are you retired? I plan to come to Macon when the weather permits and later in the year, want to go to the big Smith lot in Rose Hill. I thought about going to Sara Letha's too but like you said it is in a rough place now!

RE: Anne Ruth Smith Bennett
One twin was stillborn, the other lived a short time. His name was James Eldred Smith. I believe the twins were the oldest of Granddaddy and my grandmother Sara Hales Smith. They are in the same plot in Rose Hill with the other Smiths. That is why I don't understand why ggrandpa was not there too.
Sarah Letha was married to a Campbell, no children! I remember so well when she died, so close to Christmas, granddaddy came out to WR and got us and Mama cried all the way to their house. No phones in the country back then! You probably not interested in all that info!!!

I was excited to start using Find A Grave, I found mama's sister and brother, the twins are in Rose Hill where G-grandma is but Sarah Letha is in Cedar Ridge, they had posted her obit! Never seen that! Also on a whim tried for C.E. b/c he is buried in Panama and did not know his exact death date! So really excited to find these!

Letha Elizabeth Malabar Smith
FYI. Granddaddy's mother, Letha was a Malabar , her mother was Martha Godbee. They can be traced back to 1500's. Letha helped to raise my mother. Her mother had died when she was 13 months old of the flu. These are buried at Rose Hill, along with grand daddy's brothers Clifford and Floyd, Letha' sister Annie. This family is in Cabiness Ridge, lot 5. I can't find out where great granddaddy Smith is buried. He died in 1901. I got this info from Granddaddys Bible, many years ago.
