re Kate Ifill Lauer - Ivy Hill Cem
Oh dear, sorry. Just realized it was another volunteer photographer who took that new picture. I'm sure you probably had good intentions towards doing so however, so thanks nevertheless. =])

Photo request Ivy Hill
It appears you have attempted to take pictures of gravestones at Ivy Hill and requested plot info. I submitted a request a year ago for a photo of the gravestone of Adelaide (Addie) Dickson. In my request I include the plot info and names of others buried there. Addie was the sister of my great grandfather. I learned the plot info after calling Ivy Hill. The were very helpful also providing me the names of the others also buried in the grave. It is how I learned her granddaughter, her namesake, is buried there (died at age 5)

If you plan to visit there anytime please check my request on Find A Grave.

I live near Annapolis and have never been to Ivy Hill

If you see someone near the garages they will have maps. Hope this is helpful. I have asked in my local area for maps at the garages when the workers are mowing & they always have maps.

Many thanks again for your time!

Can't thank you enough for your time. I am not a family member, Loretta was a childhood friend of my Mother. I will call the cemetery office today & ask for the location. I'll let you know what happens.

RE: Conrad Lauer & Kate Ifill Lauer - Ivy Hill Cem
Multiple thanks, Karen, for posting a photo to Conrad - I wonder, will you be kind enough to pop the same photo onto his wife Kate's memorial, or would you give me permission to copy the one and place it on the other myself? There _is_ my photo request pending for Kate Ifill Lauer, so if you do it, you'd get the public kudos for fulfillment, but I'll leave the choice up to you . . .

Once again, your help at Ivy Hill has been greatly appreciated. If I can reciprocate in Ontario at anytime, I'll be happy to do so. =])

Tom Nelson
Ivy Hill Cemetery
Hi Karen
Here's another notorious case of non-cooperation where the issue of "privacy" was raised. It involves the Rosehill Cemetery and Mausoleum in Chicago, Cook Co. Il. Here is a "copy and paste" of the annotation on their cemetery page:

"Cemetery notes and/or description:
Find A Grave volunteers have attempted to fulfill photo requests at Rosehill (even contacting their management and lawyers) and have been denied. Here are their comments and suggestions for grave marker photo requests:

"After many tries (and trials) we are sorry to report to you that the management of Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago has been unwilling and unable, according to the lawyers of Dignity Corporation/Service Corporation International to honor our requests to photograph your requests for pictures from Rosehill.

After many attempts to come to an agreement to photograph there we contacted the board of their parent corporation. The response that we received was less than desirable. They will only give permission for DIRECT DESCENDANTS to obtain photographs of graves there.

At this point there are over 60 requests for photographs which cannot be filled. We would love to be allowed to photograph these for you. We have been warned that if we are seen photographing unauthorized graves our cameras might be confiscated and we will be asked to leave the cemetery.

Our only suggestion is that you contact the cemetery - requesting that they provide you with the plot cards and ask them to take the pictures for you. We are not sure WHAT they will require for proof of "next of kin".

You may also wish to contact the Service Corporation International if you cannot obtain your requested photos and other information. If they get enough letters they may have to reconsider their policy.

Rosehill Cemetery
5800 N. Ravenswood
Chicago, IL 60660

Service Corporation International (AKA Dignity Corporation)
1929 Allen Parkway
Houston, Texas 77019"

So, at least, Ivy Hill is not threatening to "confiscate" your camera. Yet! Have a good week.

RE: Samuel and Rachel Ifill
Hi again, Karen. Have finished (I think) with as many Ifill/Ivy Hill memorials as I know about. If you'd be kind enough to add your photos, I'd be absolutely delighted! Actually, if you wait a couple of days, I'll be able to put in photo requests (used up my quota at the moment) and you'll get the credit for fulfilling them. *-*

(PS: please delete the Matthew/Margaret family pic from Catharine Pierrepont Ifill - it's needed on Matthew's VM!)

One grandson of Catherine's, another Samuel, died in Frankford PA and was buried at Cedar Hill. I've added his funeral notice to his Vmemorial. Don't know if that's "in your neighborhood", but if you're wandering that way at any time . . . =])

Many many thanks once again, =]) Beth

Tom Nelson
Ivy Hill Cemetery (Lila May Morgan)
Thanks for sharing the disappointing info re this cemetery's lack of cooperation. I'm afraid that more and more cemeteries are going this route and that the whole "volunteer photographer" program will be threatened. Let's hope not. I annotated Ms. Morgan's memorial with your findings. Is there some way for you to annotate Ivy Hill's "cemetery page" about all this? This might forestall any other photogs from going there on a wild goose chase! Thanks again for your efforts.

Re: Catherine & Samuel Ifill - Ivy Hill Cemetery, Phila PA
Oh my goodness, Karen, you're quick!! Thank you SO MUCH for finding the monument and taking all those photos! Especially as you were thorough and observant to notice other family members closeby - what a lovely surprise! I am surely looking forward to learning which ones they might be. =])

I'm sorry to hear Ivy Hill staff are not very welcoming. I often read posts in the Find-a-Grave Help forum where people discuss the issue that many the larger American cemeteries seem to becoming like that. It's a shame.

If you'd like to take the time to communicate your observations to each (or any) of the other photo requestors, the best way to do it is highlight/copy the comments you made to me (from the message on my profile page), go to the Ivy Hill request list, open each "report a problem" field one at a time, and simply paste the paragraph in the comment box of each (with appropriate wording). The request system will then send an email to each respective person with your comments, and it will be up to the individuals to decide what they wish to do next. You'll have helped with your note, and the rest is up to them. (teehee)

As for the additional Ifill photos, here's what we can do to get into more private contact. Create just one memorial here for one of the names - you wouldn't even need to post a photo to it yet (although I'm looking forward to seeing them _all_). Then I can contact you through the Edit tab, using the Suggest-A-Correction (SAC) email system that Find-a-Grave provides, and we can discuss the names and details just between us two. We can even exchange personal email addresses that way, as SAC emails only go between the suggestor and the memorial manager.

Another method is by PM, "private message". I know one can do that when logged in on the Forums, but I've never tried to do it via a person's profile page. There's probably a way - I just haven't found it yet. My forum name is MySunnyIsle, with a picture of the Shield of Barbados. You'll find me fastest in the discussions for "Cemetery and Genealogy Research North America Canada" or >> Barbados" Remember that logging in to the forums is a separate login to the cemeteries system. =])

I do look forward to seeing your 'finds', and to getting in touch one-on-one.

Re: Catherine & Samuel Ifill - Ivy Hill Cemetery, Phila PA
Hi, Karen =]) Thanks for your reply, and for your offer to try and take a photo of the IFILL family monument for me.

Actually, my cousin in PA only sent me a partial picture of the gravestone, as you can see from Catherine's memorial (that's me who put the pic there, btw). I was hoping to get an over-all photo to be able to see the entire monument. It's also possible that there are names on the other three sides, photos of which I don't have. So any help you can provide will be very much appreciated.

The 20 photo request in the list for Ivy Hill are indeed from other people, not myself. The requestors' names are in very small print under each entry, on the line between the b&d dates, and the date when the request was initiated.

All the best,
=]) Beth,
north of Toronto, Canada
