Bio's are meant to be about the life of person being memorialized, not detailed information about the tragic circumstances of their death. It is a memorial after all...Managers of memorials makes the decision for the information on the memorials. For clarification = Contact Admin.

Also, in case you didn't know - Virtual flowers are only to be used as a tribute to the deceased. F/G rule = Tokens with stories, information notes, & source notes = Not allowed. Admin always remove them.

Donna, I'm not related to either one of the ladies, but when I get the Coushatta Citizen each week, I check to make sure all the obituaries listed in it have been added to FindAGrave. That's why I noticed the discrepancy with the dates. Janice

RE: Emma Peters Day
Greetings Donna,
Thank you for bringing all this to my attention.
I recall being informed of a pre-existing memorial for Emma (Peters) Day soon after I acquired the duplicate, but I misplaced some important information, which stalled my research, and prevented my acting on this matter.
I have contacted Find A Grave concerning the duplicate, and they have to review the details and delete it, as I haven't the ability to delete a memorial created by another contributor.
Also, 'Thank You' for the headstone images you uploaded for Marshall Emery Day, and wife Ethel.
I have approved your edits, and it was my obvious intent to link them myself, but this too was delayed because of the duplicate memorial.
FYI, Emma Peters was the youngest sister of my great-grandmother Mary Louella (Peters) Cox (1874-1968).
Lesson learned here is to research any memorial prior to a transfer request!
Thanks again.

RE: Cortez Garrett
My contention they married in 1953 is INCORRECT.
In fact he married MARY ALMOND in 1953....says so on their headstone!

Couple this with the fact that Glennie Lee died 12 Aug 1949 and the sequence becomes plausible.

Now, looking at the 1940 census record Cortez is living in Bienville Parish. It shows him still living with his parents.

Glennie Lee is also there in 1940, working as a practical nurse and living as a boarder with the Fletcher family.

To confuse things further: there's a Cortez Garrett attending military nursing school in Shreveport (Caddo Parish) in 1944! However, the birth date on that records shows 1919..probably not him.

Some records have a middle name of Theodore -- I have nothing to verify that is correct.

Finally, the Louisiana Death record shows Glennie Lee Garrett as Negro! I do not believe that to be accurate....not uncommon for Louisiana's record keeping.

Conclusion: I don't have hard proof...just circumstantial evidence. Probably the best way to proceed would be the other "Cortez Garrett", see what can be attached to him.

RE: Cortez Garrett
The only documentation I'm aware of is the engraving of her headstone: "Wife of Cortez Garrett".

I'm inclined to treat headstone engraving as authoritative.

Saw you on "Gone Gravin"'s list of friends. I got an edit email from him/her, but there's no way to respond - no email, messages disabled. Can you help me out?

I realize that his obituary states that he died in Heflin, Louisiana but, his home where he passed away is in Bienville Parish, Louisiana. His address was Ringgold. If I use Heflin, I would be putting out the wrong information. I may go back to the orginal obituary info. and make a note at the bottom. Thanks

RE: Unknown child of ZZ Thomas
Donna, so nice to know you. I was acquainted with Jeremy, who is now buried in Thomas Wren. I am trying to add all the children of both the Robert Lindsey Bamburg family (my grt gfather) and the John Henderson Thomas family. Both men married a bunch of Pickett sisters and lst cousins! As custodian and pres of the T-W cemetery Assoc, I am gathering info on all the "unknowns" who, according to my father who ran the assoc from 1950s until his death in 2001, are buried in the center section of the cemetery.
Once I have these names, I plan to add a memorial marker in this area to honor these lost graves. Should you run across any names who are said to be in unmarked graves there, I would so appreciate it.

Should you have the opportunity, the Thomas-Wren memorial is this weekend, as it is always the 3rd weekend in April. Would love to visit with you.

As I said, I will seek any members who might have knowledge of the ZZ Thomas family to get those dates for you.

RE: Unknown child of ZZ Thomas
I looked at this stone today and it is not at all legible. As the ThomasWren annual Memorial service is this next weekend (Easter), I will see if I can make contact with anyone who might be able to provide information.

Do you yourself have family in our cemetery? I have seen your name on many memorials of my widespread family, and I am seeking as much info as possible. Also, I was unaware of FindaGrave until 2 yrs ago. I am so grateful for all those who have worked so hard to document family histories. I am President of the TW Cemetery Assoc, as was my brother before me, and our father was from the mid 1950s until his death in 2001. Find A Grave has made my job so much easier.

Thank you for all you do.

George Washington & Telitha Garrett NIX
on the Memorial for:

Telitha Ann Missouri NIX Thomas

it lists the following:
Daughter of George Washington Nix 1804-1859 and Telitha Garrett 1810-1896.

George Washington and Telitha Nix would be my GGG Grandparents, Telitha Missouri NIX Thomas would be a GGG Aunt.

Do you have information on where George and Telitha Nix might be laid to rest?

Thank you for your time,
Stephen Nix
