|Carroll Craven||RE: William Hill|
I sent you an email (the one on your profile). If you want the information I gathered related to the Hills I can resend it to the correct email.
If you give me what you know about William I'll see if I can help. The area is small and well documented it seems.

I researched Knoxville, Confederate Cemeteries, military records, and could not find a definite place of burial. You are likely correct in that he was buried where he fell in battle along with others, unmarked.

It is very frustrating...it is not like it is a secret or anything...the obituary is posted in the newspaper for all the world to see, and then they put up a marker to say where they are...it is not rocket science...I have relatives buried in there as well as friends...they know me so well, that if I do not go to where my my family is buried, the send the golf cart out...I know of a few that have snuck in and taken pictures, but for the most part if you get caught, you get escorted out...Good Shepherd across town is the same way 'cause Arnold Davis, the chief of the ancestry division at the public library was escorted off a few years back...I file all of the requests, so if something + should happen, then I am already armed for bear...LOL

Its in waycross , off of city blvd and mount pleasant rd, they have james listed as someone else son, but when james lived in Peirce county his wife would go into the family store take money out of the cash drawer and make trips to fla where she was from, the brothers got tried of it and they moved to waycross so the family had nothing else to do with them

It looked like ancestry might have a findagrave link but I couldn't find it...perhaps you may be able to. The google search with the ancestry link wouldn't work for me. Sorry! Thanks for all that you volunteers do!

Even though I know you are not a direct descendant of the Tillman family, do you have any information on a Mary LU in Edgefield?

I'm sure they're out there somewhere! We were at the cemetery until after the office closed so couldn't go back to confirm the location.

Have you actually been to this cemetery and seen Mary jane's grave?? This Harrell Cemetery has only 9 headstones and Mary Jane isnt one of them. You have Mary Jane buried in wrong cemetery.
The cemetery (Old Levi Harrell Cemetery) where she is buried in isnt on FindaGrave yet. I have photos of her grave and most all the graves there.
I havent done any Genealogy work in some time and cant tell you the location right now. I believe I still have maps and as soon as I find them I'll left you know the location.
If your email address is still good you should receive photos shortly.

All of the the Highview/Tillman grave transfers have been completed. Thanks for your help with making this possible.

The duplicate page for Bennie Tillman Ryan has been deleted. Please consider removing/deleting two of the the three tributes you posted on the remaining site. Three posts seem excessive. Thank you.

Yes mam, transfers done. I know you had created so many of those sites in the Thurmond-Reese Cemetery with a lot of work getting it done. Just felt it was natural you should have those two children I came across. --Jerry

June, if you wish to have the new graves from the two young Reese children I discovered...let me know. I loaded them in the cemetery page with the headstone they share. I don't mind either way, but you may have some info on them to connect a parent.

I added the wide-view photo of the cemetery where William is & added the caption below:
Thurmond-Reese Cemetery shown here and WILLIAM THURMOND stone could not be verified. However, there are many "Thurmond" stones here and this would be the area he is laid to rest. Time has took it's toll on the legible inscriptions on many of the "Thurmond" stones. In fact, the stone (left of photo & slanted back) only has the name THURM readable and nothing else as an example) --This research done Dec 2013
The second photo I added to the cemetery homepage and shows the view from the roadway. Your welcome to save that pic and add it too if you wish. It hurts me I couldn't locate Williams stone as I know it had to be one that has lost the inscription over time. -Jerry

|Jerry Moore||Thurmond - Reese|
Yes, mam.. they are all 3 combined. Now that I have been there, I know. This is a large cemetery although private. Filled with Reese, Thurmond, & Green stones -some are readable and some are not. The land used to be owned by a "Thurmond" and was sold off to some degree. The Thurmond land is huge but this very portion where the graves are have become private property if any of this helps. So, yes... this one cemetery online is the only one. It was enjoyable to research, walk through, and photo the readable stones. Many unmarked stones are there even for slaves. Hope this helps... Jerry

|Jerry Moore||Thurmond - Reese Cemetery|
Hi June, I was actually filling a photo request for someone else and couldn't locate her specific person (William Thurmond) but did find a treasure trove of others I could photograph and saw where you just happened to manage those. Do you know a way to delete the other two Thurmond Cemetery's -as it just seems to confuse things with multiple listings. I happened to notice there were two more but only with one or two graves. Have a happy new year... -Jerry

|billy parker||RE: AC Leonard|
I don't think there was any indication of his being a confederate soldier.
By the way, I also took pictures of other Leonard
family headstones. Just look under find a grave for Columbiana cemetery. They were listed but had no pictures of their headstones. Two of them looked like children. I believe one was less than two years old.

Yes I am aware of that. The cemetery has always maintained the name Phoenix cemetery.It is on the grounds of a church that was originally named Phoenix Church. I saw the cemetery listed on F.A.G. but had not one entry and that is why I went and did my walk. This church has changed names several times over the years. When I added the names to Phoenix cemetery at the request of our family, I had not seen the entries under Salvation & Deliverance. Once we connected, I was told that was the name that was on the church when she did her walk. That is why she listed the cemetery under that name. By the time we connected our family had printed Phoenix cemetery in the family reunion booklets as the place our ancestors are buried, because that is where they know them to be buried for years. No matter what name the church undergo, the cemetery has always been referred to as Phoenix. I have no problem with the two cemeteries, I know when a relative is looking for our ancestor they will be looking for Phoenix cemetery not Salvation
