Ellie, I was wondering whether you could recall your sources for the memorials for Archie and his wife Beatrice. I ask because during my review of recent memorials that I created I realized that my memorial for Archie is a duplicate of that for the one that you created, except that it is in a different cemetery. The burial record suggests that he was interred in Lakeview a year before his wife's death in 2006. Could one of the burial sites actually be a cenotaph?

Thank you for the suggested edits!

I have included your name as a source of some of the information in the memorial, but if you have more specific sources, I would be happy to include that as well (or instead).

Again, I appreciate your help. Knowing Marian's maiden name helped me confirm that Mary Jane Smith, who is beside her in Etna Cemetery, is her daughter.

Arabella Alexander Smith
Hi Ellie,

Thanks for the suggested edits! I've accepted them & transferred Arabella to your care. You can more easily make edits as she is part of your family.

I'm a fan of family maintaining the memorials of their kin, even when it's not requested & regardless of any lineage "rules".

All my best,

I'd be happy to transfer Adaline's memorial to you, but the find-a-grave membership number you gave me is incorrect. The system won't accept it. Please send it again.

Thank you,

RE: Sarah Aldrich
Are you sure you're sending these messages re Sarah Aldrich to the right person?

I have no idea who Raine A.W. Hadwick was (for whom you sent a memorial number).

An Ezra Aldrich (1833-1910) is buried in Willow Cemetery, Franconia, NH, sharing a monument with "his wife" Mary A. (1841-1864).

In the same lot is a g.s. for Sarah M. Aldrich (died 1842), wife of Ira Howland, and her infant son.

Nearby (but not in the same lot) are headstones for John Aldrich (1765-1841), who came to Franconia from Douglas, MA in 1780 (per inscription) and his wife Sarah (Taylor) Aldrich, who died in 1842.

Yet another Sarah Aldrich in this cemetery seems to be the one you're referring to, memorial # 80786667. Her stone, a low block marker, gives only her name and the dates 1844-1901. Is this whom you're referring to?

I recommend you take a look at, where I've both mapped the cemetery in detail and transcribed all the stones. Sarah Aldrich (1844-1901)'s stone is object 162 (grid square J17) in Section B.

Please email any response to me directly at I find the Find A Grave messaging system to be incredibly klutzy.

Richard & Lavina Alexander
Hi Ellie,
I took a picture for you of Richard & Lavina Alexander's grave stone. I'm sorry to say that the stone fell over but it is legible and in good condition. If you don't want the photo please let me know and I will delete it. I also wanted to let you know that there was another grave stone for John H. Alexander which was located right next to Richard & Lavina's grave stone. (He's not listed on Find a Grave). It also was on the ground and in not as good condition. Please let me know if you would like this photo also. It seemed as though there was a plot that may have had more Alexanders buried there. The stones may be completely covered over or they may not have had stones at all. Just wanted you to know just in case the cemetery has any records that you may want to look into.
Take care,

RE: Albert C. & Sarah Delano Abbott
Hi Ellie,

According to the 1927 Thomaston, Maine Town Report, Sarah J. Abbott died June 30, 1926 in Augusta, Maine. Hear death notice in the local newspaper states that she died June 30, 1926 in Thomaston, Maine.

There was a brief funeral notice in the newspaper that states the she was survived by a son and a granddaughter.

The Vital Records of Thomaston, Maine states that Albert C. Abbott and Mrs. Sarah J. Delano both of Thomaston filed their marriage intentions on Sept. 20, 1873 and were married on Nov. 22, 1873. Maybe listing her as a Mrs. twice was an error but given that she was about 41 years old when they married I would dare say she had a previous marriage.

Also in the Vital Records of Rockland, Maine which borders Thomaston there is a Albert C. Abbott and a Lucy A. Wyman both of Rockland who married on November 11, 1868.

I found this information at the local library.

RE: Albert C. & Sarah Delano Abbott
Hi Ellie,

The small headstone to the left of Sarah Abbott's is her husband Albert.

It reads:

A.C. Abbott
Co. B 6 Vt Inf
Age 47

According to cemetery records there are just the two burials on the lot located at Ave 2, Sec. 3, Lot 390

The attending physician certified in the Vital Records of Thomaston , Maine that he died on February 9, 1888 of hemiplegia as result of cerebral hemorrhage but the next page states that he died on Feb. 5. The local newspapers both had a date of Feb. 11 in the death notices. I would probably go with the attending physicians date of Feb. 9

RE: John Abbott of Old Hopkinton Cemetery
I so wish I could help you but I know nothing more than the information I already entered. I too had ancestors in Hopkinton and was there a couple years ago to do research. Went to the cemetery and found nothing. I thought I would enter some graves from the cemetery list hoping it might help someone else with their search.
I don't know if you went to the Historical Society in town, but they were helpful.....
