I too have sent dupe messages to Barbara. If she doesn't respond pretty soon, I will ask for the memorials to be merged.

Crovat or Crovatt
Hi Stephen,

I'm William Crovatt. Gibbs and Rebecca Crovat were my great great great grandparents. Do you have any information on just when and with who the name began to include the second T?

By the way, they are both buried in unmarked graves in Magnolia. Their plots are listed in the cemetery records.

Thank you for your time and consideration,

William Crovatt

I know but you can add his parents to his memorial and since I manage Gus' memorial, I would have to approve or decline it.

Thank you so much for your help in finding the answer. Why don't you just change the burial location on your memorial and delete the inscription section. You already have the links on the memorial. I just happen to be photographing the whole cemetery and that's how I got involved in this mystery. Again, thank you. Wimsang

Hi Stephen,
Thank you so much for your response pertaining to Charles Sanders. Now I don't know which one is the cenotaph. His marker is next to his mother's at Crestlawn in Orangeburg. He sure did die young. Just curious as to what in the world happened to him. Again, thank you. Wimsang

Do have contact information for the person who may be in charge of cemetery records? I've tried unsuccessfully to locate someone. I have some questions that really do need answers. Thank you!

Stephen ~ I loaded a photo of Cora Lees' headstone and saw your note that she was married to Robert Lees. I created a memorial for a Rbt Lees that was buried next to her, but did not connect as spouse since there was an age difference. Just thought I'd let you know, as I am not related. I can transfer Robert if you like.

RE: Redden Thigpen
It does seem to get quite confusing. John James Thigpen marries an Elizabeth Ellen Grooms, and then his and Redden's father, John Joseph Thigpen married an Elizabeth Grooms. There seemed to be a lot of intermarrying going on, I think. That was before cars and planes, and I guess they didn't have much to choose from back in the day. I don't think I'd want to marry my cousin or anything like that, though, myself. There's one point in the Gore tree where a Gore marries a Gore, and her tree goes off on a different branch than his does. I'm trying to get to the point that their branches meet back up. Especially if only 4 Gore brothers came to America (probably from England, maybe, or at least that's the story I've been told), and then some went to North Carolina, in the Shallotte and Southport area, and some are in the Tarboro, Rocky Mount, and Roanoke Rapids area, and then some Gores are in Tennessee, where Al Gore's family branch is. And with all of these Johns, Josephs, and Fletchers, and Ellens, Elizabeths, and Marys, it's hard to keep them straight. I have the same issue on the maternal side of my family, too. I've got families with brothers, marrying sisters from other families. And their names are getting all blended together, too. They have a bunch of Josephs, Johns, and Franklins, and Ellens, Elizabeths, and Marys, too. Those must have been some popular names back then, and still are, really. Well, some of them are. I don't think Drummie, Wealtha, or Placida are very common names anymore, if they even were back then. :) It'd be a whole lot easier if we had faces to go with the names, and if they would use middle names, that would help, too. But, thanks for trying to help. It's fun trying to figure it out, and it sure keeps you busy. Which is a good thing. :)

Priscilla Hood Thigpen - 94564932
I don't mean to keep writing to you, but there is one more R.M. Thigpen - 121117649 - with no birthyear, but he passed away in 1909, and Priscilla passed away in 1913, and I'm wondering if this might be her husband Redden Thigpen. I know it's going to be hard to try and put them together, but maybe you might have a little more information that would help. So, thanks again for reading all of this, and I'll appreciate any help you can give to me. - Sincerely, Jill

Priscilla Hood Thigpen - 94564932
There's one more question about a possible son of Priscilla and Redden, and brother, possibly of Franklin. There is a Robert M. Thigpen - 71574557 - buried in McElveen Cemetery in Cades, SC, that has a birthyear of 1854, and since Franklin's birthyear is 1850, and Priscilla has several gaps in between the years of her children's births that they could fit in, do you think it's possible that they could all be related? Thanks again and I appreciate any help you might could give to me while I'm trying to find my ancestors.

Priscilla Hood Thigpen - 94564932
Hi, I have a GGGrandfather listed - Franklin Witherspoon Thigpen - 84434372 - who was born in 1850, and I have been looking for his parents in SC, near Clarendon County or Sumter County, since he got married to Ellen Baker Thigpen - 84434187 - in Clarendon County, and they raised their children there. Although I don't know for certain, I feel that he was probably born in SC, but I've never been able to find out anything other than what is on his gravestone. You have Priscilla Hood Thigpen listed - 94564932 - along with a lot of other Thigpens at Zoar Community Cemetery in Sumter, SC., and the dates of Priscilla's birth and her and Redden Thigpen's children seem to coincide with my GGGrandfather's birthdate of 1850, and I was wondering if they could possibly be his parents and siblings. Franklin and Ellen - 84434187 - had a daughter, Mary (nicknamed Mamie) - 84369404, who married James Ezra Tennant - 84369494 - and they had my grandmother, Oneta Wealtha Tennant Hudson - 74099400, and she married John Ira Hudson - 45349190 - and they had my mother, Mary Louise Hudson Gore - 74636619. I've searched for other Thigpen's that were born before 1850 and Priscilla seems to the be only one that I can find that might could actually be Franklin's mother. I know he was buried in Paxville at Home Branch Cemetery near his wife and some of his children, but do you think it is possible that he was born in Sumter and was one of Priscilla and Redden Thigpen's children? I have always run into roadblocks whenever I try to find any of my ancestors from before him. Would you happen to have any more information on Priscilla's family that might help me find out if she is indeed Franklin's mother? If so, that would help me go back at least one more generation. I noticed, though, that there is no page for Redden Thigpen, so, I guess that would become another roadblock for me, but every new connection helps. You may not have any further info, but it does sound plausible to me that Priscilla and Redden may be Franklin's mother and father. I sure would appreciate any more information that you might have about the Thigpen's buried in Zoar Community Cemetery. I haven't been able to go any further back than Home Branch Cemetery in Paxville on the Thigpen side of my family. Thanks a bunch for taking the time to read all of this. I know it gets pretty confusing and tedious sometimes, but I do appreciate you posting memorial pages for the Thigpen's. It may help me find more of my ancestors if it turns out that mine and yours are related. Thanks a bunch, Jill :)
