RE: Carpenter, Montezuma Cem., N
My deepest apologies for never replying to you (from May 2016!!). The grave site referenced is John Calvin Carpenter, memorial # 54473662. This is such a large stone it should have been spotted right away. Makes me believe we were in another cemetery somewhere. My question was if you knew of another Montezuma Cemetery?

Thank you for helping me and all the others, too.

RE: Carpenter, Montezuma Cem., N
There are 4 Carpenters listed on the Montezuma Cemetery site: Cecil H. [1877-1931], his wife, Lula Clifton [1891-1978]; John Calvin [1846-1931] and his wife Mary Banner[1851-1934]. We could not find any of them. Is there a second Montezuma Cemetery in Avery County of which we are unaware? Under a different name?

Thank you for such a quick response. And thank you for your service in Vietnam.

Carpenter, Montezuma Cem., N
My husband and I were at the Montezuma Cemetery
yesterday looking for any Carpenters and could
not find a one. Can you tell me where the picture for the Carpenter stone came from. We should have seen this as it is in excellent condition.

Thank you very much.

RE: Shirlie Margie Smith Cook
Thanks for the info. I have corrected Shirlie's obit. If you don't mind my asking, why did Joe go from being a Smith to a Denton. This is a man who registered with the military using the name Smith. The brother born before him and after him kept the name Smith. I could wrap my head around it better if his name was changed as a child, but this was a grown man. Even his daughter was given the name Smith at her birth. If this is too personal, you don't need to give me an answer. I just see it as a mystery!

Hannah Lewis Calloway
Could I have your permission to use that wonderful photograph of Hannah Lewis Calloway that you posted on her memorial (memorial #60125893)? I'd like to post it on Of course I will credit you with the photo. Can I ask where you got the photo? Hannah is not directly in my line. Her 4th great-grandfather is Zachariah Campbell Sr. (my 5th great-grandfather), and the family is one of my research interests. Thank you very much.

RE: Transfer
You are?! How are you related? Like through Jonathan - what line? Mine is Evaline McNeil Miller to Bertie Miller Roland.
Have you been by the Moravian church they built - the remains? I loved seeing that.

Chet Walker
Pyatte Cem and Franklin Cem- Avery Co., NC
Arrie- I have been working lately on finding and photographing Avery Co. cemeteries along with a couple of other people. "sparhawk" recently photographed Franklin Cemetery which he found based on the F-A-G coordinates on the cemetery page for that cemetery. (This cemetery is also on TOPO maps as Franklin Cem.) In looking for duplicate entries today, I realized that Pyatte Cem, which I believe you photographed, and Franklin Cem are the same cemetery under 2 different names. I am planning to request that F-A-G merge the 2 cemeteries and create a cross reference for the 2 names. Your memorials are the oldest so they will prevail but I wanted you to know what is going on. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Note: There are also 19 memorials in Franklin which belong in White Pine. (It was once known as Franklin and thus the confusion.)I am also working to get those moved.

Campbell Cem in Robbinsville
Dear Arrie:
I live on Anthony Br in Robbinsville & posted several graves in a cem that is about 1/2 mile from my home that has my ancesters in it. We always called it the Phillips/Sherrill cem. I notice that you have a duplicate of it listed as Campbell cem. How can we fix it so that there is only one grave listed per person. Thank you. Betty
