Pvt. Harold L. Myers
Dear Liz,

Your relative, Pvt. Myers from Hagerstown, MD. was one of the 763 soldiers of the 66th Infantry division killed when their troopship, Leopoldville, was torpedoed & sunk in the English Channel on Christmas Eve 1944. His body was one of the 493 never found. For more info refer to web site Leopoldville.org & my book, Leopoldville: A Tragedy Too Long Secret, available from Amazon or Barnes & Noble web sites. Hannah Bittinger Andrews
Hello. Her memorial is Find A Grave Memorial# 43835140. I see that you added the photo of her memorial and that it says wife of Solomon Andrews. Do you recall if his name was also on the memorial, that he is buried there with her? Thank you.

Dan Phelan
WWII casualties from Washington Co.
Hello Liz,
There is another list of names of WWII casualties from Washington County. See:
http://russpickett.com/history/mdwash.htm

I have not compared all of them yet, but they mostly match up. I see one or two so far on your list that are not on the other.

Henry Carter in Maplewood
Hi Liz, Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not related to this family of Henry Carter. I've just taken it upon myself to help out other interested family members who'd like to know more than a name and date about who's buried here. Glad that this has helped you. God bless you in your continued search, Chris

Hi Chris, You have done an incredible amount of research for this memorial, and it is much appreciated, as my Mother was a Carter. Are you related in any way to this family? Liz Cain

Find a Grave photos
Liz,
I am writing a two-volume book on the 8th Indiana. I would like to include photos of the soldiers and their headstones with their biographies. I would like to use some of your photos in the book and will give you credit in the caption for each photo. If you are interested, I can let you know when the book is published.

Richard Lavallee
Hi, Liz, I was wondering what your proposed edit to change Richard Lavallee's death date to 1993 is based on. If it's the picture of the stone, it does say 1992--it just looks like it says 1993 until you zoom in. I've also seen no other indication that his death date is anything other than 1992. I don't usually question people about these things, but it struck me as unusual that a death date on a stone would be incorrect, and since you requested the Oscar Lavallee photo, I just wanted to check in case you had some personal connection to these people and knew something I wouldn't know. But if you were just looking at the picture, it does say 1992.
