RE: Edward Shields
Elizabeth's funeral mass was at St. John Baptist RC Church, at Lewis & Willoughby, Brooklyn. She was first buried in Calvary Cemetery. Edward Shields purchased the Calvery plot September 19, 1864 [Section 1 West, Ave. B, Plot 3, Grave 3]. This plot is adjacent to Plot 2, which was purchased by John Finn, 3 days earlier to bury his mother, Ellen Galligan Finn. After her husband died in 1907, Elizabeth was re-interred with her husband at St. John's in November, 1907 [Section 14, Range M, plots 4&5].

Unfortunately, Elizabeth's parents' names were not given on her death certificate.

RE: Edward Shields
Hi Joan,

If you re-check the Brooklyn city directory for 1878 you will see that there was an Edward, driver, at 825 Gates and also an Edward J., truckman, at 889 Pacific. Clearly there were 2 men with not only similar names but same occupation.

The Edward that I have been tracking is the one on Gates. I have tracked this family back thru US and NYS censuses.

Also, I have the interment lists for this family in St John's where Edward was buried in 1907 as well as for Calvary where his wife Elizabeth Finn Shields was originally buried. After Edward died in 1907 her body was brought over to St John's.This Elizabeth was the sister of John Finn, my g'g'g'father, and their parents were David Finn and Ellen Galligan.

May I suggest that you re-examine your sources?

There's good reason for your head to be reeling! So many of these families had very similar names.

BYW, Was your Wood line ever Woods from Co. Down?

Stella Bohannen
Hello-
I am researching my family tree.
According to my records Stella was married to William Elias Tway
Son of William F. Tway & Mary L. Davis

Mary L. Davis' parents were:

George W. Davis (born April 29 1805)
&
Mary E. Henchman (born June 9 1815)
Do you have any information for the Davis or Henchman lineage?

According to my records they are my husbands maternal 3rd great grandparents.

Thank you for your time-

I am not related to him. I would be happy to transfer the memorial to you. I entered most of the memorials for the Marble Cemetery. I am a descendant of Abraham Fardon (Vault No. 79) and some of the Strongs in other vaults.

I did add the Capt. before his name.

Hi, sorry it's taken so long to respond but it has been crazy with a lot of requests lately - probably due to the 1940 federal census. Anyway, no I am not related.

RE: Herbert family question
Hello Joan,

Isaac and Eleanor (Denyse) Herbert are my 3rd great grandparents. I descend from their daughter Amanda (Herbert) Burrowes. Unfortunately, I do not know when Gilbert's wife Marion died or where she was buried. She appears, with her daughter Marion and grandson William Shultz in the 1920 census in Kingston, Ulster County, New York. Presumably she had been living with her daughter Dorothy who had died in 1919. I suspect she may be buried in Kingston, perhaps in Montrepose cemetery where Dorothy is buried.

I made the correction and also linked. I noticed that I had linked all of the other children correctly so I probably just go confused with where I was in the original linking. Thanks though for pointing out my error.

RE: Steel/Steele family
If I am related, it is way back in history. I am related to Samuel Steele and Ann Futhey who were in southeast PA very early. Their decendants migrated to NC and then KY and then to Missouri where I show up as a descendant. I always photo and enter headstones with names from my family. My Colemans were in the south...NC in 1816 and we are somehow related to the Colemans of Mobjack Bay in Virginia but I do not know how! I never know how these grave entries may help someone or even little ole me!
