Iley B. Coffee photo
Hi Chad,

I came across the photo you uploaded of Iley B Coffee and I'm wondering if that is from your personal family photos or if it originated elsewhere. I'm related to Iley through his son Joel.

Thanks you!

Sarah Bishop Tomlinson
My Great-Great Grandfather was a brother to Henry Bishop, Sarah's father. I have the same photo as the one posted on her site. I have a lot of information on the Bishops that moved from New York to Michigan, but I am thin on the New York folks. If you have Bishop history, would you be willing to share?

RE: John Coffee

I was at Timber Ridge last Saturday to take some photos of John Coffee's headstone, when I discovered the headstone had fallen off of the pedestal. It doesn't appear it was vandalized. If the family wishes, maybe some of my friends and I can lift it back onto the pedestal.

RE: John Coffee
Mr. Walsh,

Thank you for replying back to me. I don't have a picture of John Coffee. Since I don't live far from where he is buried I plan to go there and take some photos of his grave. The murder of Deputy Marshal John N.Merritt will be one of my chapters in the book. Gainesville Police Department's first police chief was the one that captured John Coffee in 1889. Thanks again for any assistance you can offer me. I look forward to hearing back from you on the picture.

John Michael Dooley
Walsh - Tarpy of LaSalle County
Sorry to have not noticed I had contacted you earlier.

Here’s the obit for Catherine Walsh Tarpy.

LaSalle Daily Post Tribune, Wednesday, 1-27-1909
John Walsh’s sister died at advanced age in Peru
Mrs. Katherine Tarpy Passes to Great Beyond – Born County Mayo, Ireland in 1828
Mrs. Katherine Tarpy, Tenth and Grant Streets, Peru, a sister of John Walsh, 841 2nd Street died yesterday afternoon shortly before three o’clock after a lingering illness. Old age is ascribed as the cause of her death.
She was born in County Mayo, Ireland, eighty years ago and has resided in Peru for forty-eight years.
Besides her brother, John Walsh, of LaSalle, she leaves four daughters: Misses Mary, Delia, Katherine of Peru, and Mrs. Nellie Wolfe of Chicago.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at nine o’clock from the residence to St. Mary’s Church, thence to St. Vincent’s Cemetery for interment.

Which John Walsh is confirmed through the obits of her four daughters. Mary’s obit notes that the undertaker was Frank T Walsh, “a cousin of the deceased”, and John Walsh is named as an uncle. Frank is mentioned as a cousin in the obit of Katherine. Nellie Tarpy Woulfe’s obit lists her as a “relative of the Walsh families of LaSalle and Peru. Bridget’s obit names relatives, “J D Walsh, Peru; Julia Walsh, LaSalle; and Martin and Harry Walsh, Chicago.

John Michael Dooley
Walsh - Tarpy of LaSalle County
I am researching the Tarpy family of Peru. Catherine Walsh (1828-1909) was married to Thomas Tarpy. She was a sister of John Walsh (1831-1915). My gg grandmother Mary Tarpy (1820-1900) was married to Michael Dooley (1828-1902) and lived in Peru. I know next to nothing about Mary but suspect she had a Walsh connection too. Until that is proven or not I am unable to link her to Catherine Walsh Tarpy or her husband. Do you have anything to add? Thank you very much.

John Coffee

I'm currently in the process of writing a book on the history of the Gainesville Police Department, Ga. Right now I'm putting the story together on the murder of John Merritt, who was US Marshal. I would very much like to use the picture of John Coffee in my book. Could you please direct me to the person I would need to ask for permission to use the picture? I would make sure that I give credit to the picture or any other information that is given to me.

Richard Coffee Relatives and Ancestors

You left a note on the page for Allen Coffee buried in Laramie, Wyoming and you have a virtual cemetery for the Coffee name. I believe Allen was the brother of Richard Coffee (born Laramie, Wyoming 1953 died Corvallis, Oregon 2011). Richard was my wife's previous husband and the father of their 2 daughters. We are looking for ancestors and relatives of Richard. Richard's mother's maiden name was Minnie Lee "Gloria" Coffee (1929-1981). She was born in Florida. I noticed most of the people in your Coffee virtual cemetery are buried in Florida or Georgia. I would appreciate any info you may have about how Richard may be related to anyone in the Coffee virtual cemetery. My email is:

RE: Marianne Hybke McCaskey
Since my husband can't recall his exact relationship (cousin, probably) and because you are more closely related and managing the other Hybki members, I have transferred to you. I hope you leave the obituary on the memorial, as is! : )

I am considering your request, since I, too, have a familial connection. Will decide soon and let you know.

John Michael Dooley
Tarpy Walsh connection
I am trying to find information on my gg grandmother, Mary Tarpy. She was married to Michael Dooley. Mary died in 1900 in Peru and is buried at St. Vincent's. There is very little information on her. The marriage certificate of their son, John Dooley, his mother as Mary Walsh while his 50th wedding anniversary newspaper story has her as Mary Tarpy. If correct it suggests that perhaps Mary had been married more than once. Do you know of any link between the Tarpy and Walsh families in LaSalle-Peru? Thank you.

Hi Carol,

I was not able to locate the gravesite.
I'm planning on going back to Myrtle Hill as soon as I can.
If I can't locate a 2nd time, I will have to have someone from the office to assist me.

I do have a copy of the section where Mr. Coffee is buried. If you would like a copy send me an email at

Would you happen to have information regarding Arthur B Coffee & Arthur Vernon Coffee? There are conflicting memorials & documentation in Texas & Nebraska. Thought you might be able to help.
