Photo Request - James Shane/Thomas Cemetery
Hi! Sharleen: Sorry I havent contacted you sooner about your request. I had a bad car accident last August & spent 3 months in the hospital & rehab center. Just now getting back to normal! I am a 3rd great granddaughter of Amos and Ruth Brown and have been working on a genealogical history of this cemetery. Hope to finish it this year! There is no headstone for James Shane. At one time I thought the tall one next to Amos and Ruth was James, but it is now thought to be his granddaughter Hannah Shane, the daughter of Caleb and Martha. The stone for them just reads Father and Mother, along with several of their children. The Wayne County cemetery books do not list him in the original addition, but the supplement (page 56) lists him in Banta-Brown-Allen Cemetery, which makes on sense to me. I am still searching for an obit for him. Please email me privately to discuss this further! Jeanne

Happy Easter!

Fred Heer Obituary
Thank you for the suggestion to add Fred's obit to his Find A Grave record. Are you a line relative of his? I am not familiar with the names of any of Fred's grandson's spouses so I couldn't tell. If so, I will be happy to transfer this record to you. Fred was my great uncle.

Hensing graves
Hi I was wondering if the Hensing graves of Albert and Buelah b 1911-1991 and 1912-1989 and John Allyn Hensing b 1941 are in St Marks or in Union Cemetery? I had a find a grave member contact me regarding John Allyn's grave saying he has a picture of the same grave but in Union Cemetery not in St Mark's which is next door to the Union Cemetery. You took the original photos of their grave so you would know where they are located maybe?? I hope/? LOL :) THanks for your help

Barb

Good morning,

I wanted to let you know that the photos you requested are available at the South Dakota Gravestone Project at southdakotagravestones .org. It would also be wonderful to have them available on Find A Grave, but in the interim, I thought this might be helpful.

Have a great 4th!

Brenda

RE: Weed graves in Oak Grove
I'm not current enough to have a smart phone and didn't want to incur the monthly contract to get one. So I went to a camping store and bought a handheld GPS. It gives me really close readings, I think. It is also supposed to beep you toward coordinates that you enter but I haven't figured that out yet. I will sometimes enter the coordinates given for a particular cemetery in Mapquest, zoom in on the cemetery and print out the map. When I visit the cemetery and find the graves (usually by just walking the rows), I'll take a reading and also mark my printed satellite view so I can double check later to be sure the readings are close. Hope that makes sense to you. Feel free to contact me if you want more information. It's fun, but adds another step to creating a good memorial. (I have an aunt in an Oklahoma cemetery. When I want to check coordinates before I send them out to someone else, I use Aunt Carol's memorial to be sure the coordinates work. She was a great sport and has now been "buried" all around the midwest! I just have to remember to erase the coordinates before I say goodbye to her.) - Connie

Don't show....
Hi Sharleen,
I'm glad you liked the photos!
Could I ask you a question? I can't seem to find an answer to why this statement comes up on some of my memorials. It says..."Don't show cemetery photos on this memorial(?)"
What can I do to get this statement removed? Who put this statement on these memorials? It didn't show up when I was working on the memorial.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
Vicki Volker

William St. John
There is an organization called Remembering with Dignity working on placing gravestones for all who are buried at MN institutions. They have placed many at Faribault already, family members have placed others. http://www.selfadvocacy.org/programs/rwd/index.htm klh

William St. John
I posted a picture for William. The Rice County Historical Society keeps the cemetery records for the Faribault Hospital Cemetery. They have no record of Charles St. John.

Walter Goodhue
Thanks for the information about Walter's family. I have tried to find more about his parents but without any luck. Walter was married to my Great Aunt on my father's side. Do you have any more information about the family? If you do, could you add that information to Walter's memorial (edit link)

RE: Anitra Lenore & Roland Leon Jensen Photo Requests
My great grandmother, Edna, lives in Tyler, Minnesota. She was born there and has lived there her whole life. It is the same place where her sister, Anitra Jensen, was born and raised.

I had 6 great grandparents when I was younger but before I was 15 years old I had 2 left. My great grandmother, Helen Guida, passed away on April 1st at 96 years old. She is the closet person I have lost in my little over 2 decades of life. Edna and Helen were high school classmates. I feel very lucky to have spent the time I have with my great grandmothers and I plan to take advantage of the time I have left with my last great grandparent.

Thanks again,
Kayla Shriver

Anitra Lenore & Roland Leon Jensen Photo Requests
Thank you for responding so quickly to the photo requests. I really appreciate it.

Anitra is my great grandmother's sister. I will show the picture to her the next time I see her. I do not think she has been to her sister's gravesite in quite a while as she is 96 years old.

Thanks again,
Kayla Shriver
