Prairie Church

We recently purchased the Prairie Church Cemetery. Our intent is to clean it up, try to recover and/or refurbish all known headstones. I noticed your post for George Wilson. I would appreciate any and all information you have on anyone buried in Prairie Church.

Thank you for your hard work and persistence. Take care and hope to hear from you soon.

Mount Moriah Photo Requests
Please consider contacting the cemetery to obtain the grave block and lot numbers. The cemetery is huge and there are over 200 photo requests...too many for the volunteers to research. You can send them to me on Find a Grave or update the memorial if you are the manager.

C. A. Paxton's memorial
I believe your memorial for C. A. Paxton #155647610 is actually the same person as Dr. C. A. Paxton, M.D. #18997703 that is managed by Find A Grave. I don't know what to suggest on this one. I will leave it up to you to decide.

Jarodd, thanks you so much for posting his stone back in October. Long illness and a broken computer has put me so far behind. Better late than never, but certainly wanted to acknowledge your work. It is most appreciated.

Hi Jarodd,

Thank you for the headstone photo. I appreciate it.
I created a memorial for her first husband William F. Smith #158975058, which shares a headstone with her. Could you please attached the shared stone photo to his memorial as well?

Thank you!

RE: Memphis obits
Hi Jarodd,

I did not find anything regarding the marriage of David and Julie (Clark) Huston nor an obituary for Julie.

Since they lived down near Atlanta and Macon, MO, I would guess there might be information found in the Macon paper.

Here is the information that I found:

A son, Samuel James, was born May 18 to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Huston. This is their fifth child and third son.

Willie Curtis Dies At Downing Recently

Willie Curtis was born October 17, 1886 in Scotland county. He was the son of James and Nannie Kirkland Curtis. He departed this earthly life Sept. 11, 1964, at the age of 77, at a Kirksville, Missouri hospital, where he had been taken only a few hours earlier, although his health hadn't been good for some time, his death was unexpected and sudden.

On Sept. 21, 1912 he was united in marriage to Opal Ashford of Downing. To this union two sons were born, Forrest of Ottumwa, Iowa, and one son who died in infancy.

Willie was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Downing, Mo. He worshipped [sic] at the Methodist Church.

He was a kind and thoughtful person, and always ready to lend a helping hand, he had a host of friends and will be missed by many in the community.

Preceding him in death was a twin sister, Millie, and two other sisters, Anna and Ella, and his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Opal, and son, Forrest, and Ann Curtis, the daughter-in-law. One granddaughter, Judy Smart and her husband, Raynor. One great granddaughter, Marti Smart, of whom he was most proud. One nephew, Dr. Paul Roberts and his family of Sweet Springs, Missouri, and one niece, Betty St. Clair Alexander of Lawrence, Kansas and her family.

Funeral services for Samuel Rockhold, 77, formerly of Memphis, were held Tuesday afternoon in the Gerth & Baskett funeral home, conducted by Rev. W. E. Longstreth. Burial was in Memphis cemetery.

Music was provided by Mrs. C. C. McQuoid, Mrs. Richard Moore and Mrs. Virgil Chamberlain.

Mr. Rockhold, who had been living with a son, Moore Rockhold of Alexandria, died Saturday night at 8 in Graham hospital Keokuk.

He was born in Lewis county, March 7, 1872, a son of Dimmon and Martha Jane Fouts Rockhold. Other survivors include a son, Noah Rockhold of Granger and two daughters, Mrs. Sylvia Stice of Mission, Kans., and Mrs. Thirgie Clark of Dement, Ill.

His home was south of Wyaconda, where he lived nearly his whole life and reared a family. He and Bessie Mae Russell were married in 1900.

He is also survived by brothers, Isaac Rockhold of Kahoka, Peter Rockhold of Macomb, Ill., Alonzo Rockhold of Wayland, Edward Rockhold of Rock Island, Ill., and one sister, Mrs. Della Collins of Neeper, Mo.

Hi Jarodd,
Yes, I have access to the newspapers here in Scotland County.

I will be glad to look up obits for you.

Please keep in mind that I am working on a computer that may totally quit at any moment, so if I do not respond in a few days, my computer may have died.

Just let me know who you are looking for and at least a date of death, if possible, or some other info.

Thanks, Linda

RE: Weary/Denning
Yes--I meant Mary Jane Pike Denning. I get the lines confused sometimes. I had a Mary Jane Pike, Mary Jane Kraft, etc. LOL

I have grandma's scrapbook typed up. I have an index of the names. I can send you both via email. Also, I have the original articles I can email you. Grandma Frances didn't think to cut out the dates or the names of the newspapers, so I'm trying to get them identified. I recall a news article about the Weary's Wedding Anniversay and one about them and their drive-in theater. I think they both had photos with them.

I have a connection to your Weary line. It is with Sarah Jane (Pike) Denning. My grandmother (Frances Naoma Worrell McLallen) had a scrapbook with almost 200 clippings from Richmond and Kansas City newspapers. She had several regarding the Weary and Denning families.

I would love to connect with you to share information. Many of my news clippings do not have which paper or the dates, although most probably came from Richmond papers. Thanks!

Elijah Piburn
Thank you for Elijah's memorial (#157856940) and obit. Could you tell me the newspaper it came from? I would like to get a copy of it and add to the records I keep for the cemetery. Would you consider a transfer? Thank you for your work. If you find another obit/memorial for Salem Church Cemetery would you email me and let me know. I'm trying to get all the records together and print an updated second printing of the burials at Salem.

24 years old? GOOD on you for realizing a purpose in the "big scheme of things" than many of our young adults these days! I was just getting ready to turn 21 when I officially started an organized genealogy collection of facts, though my grandma (best friend) and I had dabbled in it since I can remember. And I have never regretted a minute of my time spent in the overall "noble cause". (Bill and Ted line? Maybe before your time. Anyway, I'm ancient now, and so glad I started young. Virtual handshake to you, my man!

Hey, thanks for the transfer! You wouldn't believe how much easier it is to enhance the page into something more than an anonymous photo, into a real person that people can enjoy knowing who was, when I have access to the edit function as I find new info or need to make corrections. I'll take any in that tree or connecting marriages because they are all in my file and I have source documents already in place that ensure the proposed updates that may come in on the auto-edit function will be scrutinized before adding to the page. Let's keep history as accurate as possible for the next ones to see and enjoy, is my deal. Keep up the good work!

I spent alot of time this morning looking for the above grave. Then I read your bio which says she married a Noonan. Could she have been buried under her last husband's name?
