Mayfield at Shady Grove in Haynesville

I don't live in the area, but have family buried here. My husband and I walked through the cemetery and we were not able to locate a monument for this request. I'm leaving the request in hopes someone else can find it, but wanted you to know we searched. I think it must be unmarked.

Do you have the section number and plot number? If not you can contact the cemetery at 281-332-3111 and they will look it up for you. The cemetery is so large and without this info it would be hard to locate. I will be happy to go photograph the marker/monument for you.

Henry Brazelton and wife Lydia Ledbetter
I found it strange all the info including court records and all census records for Henry in Alabama he spells his name Brazelton but it is not that way on the memorial. Then I came across some really interesting info you might want to rethink your choosen burial spot for them. Seems highly unlikely they are buried in New Hope where you put them. Also would be nice to spell their name with the z!! Brazelton thanks

Deen,

I took a quick look at my records. Henry Brazelton and Lydia Ledbetter are said by some sources to be buried in unmarked graves in New Hope Cemetery . I went there a few years ago and looked at all the graves and couldn't find them (there were only one or two Brazeltons in that cemetery and there appeared to be few unmarked graves). There is a book from the Brazelton family in Georgia that has Henry buried in New Hope . All the burials of the children of Jacob and Hanna Greene Brazelton are recorded in this book (I found it in the small library in Brazelton , Georgia ). Another book can be found on the Internet at this link. See page 41.

http://books.google.com/books?id=UNuECGC7CiYC&pg=PA41&lpg=PA41&dq=henry+brazelton+buried+new+hope+alabama&source=bl&ots=KU62R6nkBa&sig=XwGt33KcV2KQzu6GA3Y6n2qmXZw&hl=en&ei=5PkRS77NJZDIsAPR-bDmAQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CAoQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=&f=false

Other records that I have from Phillip Certain indicate that both Henry and Lydia are buried in the " Old Brazelton Cemetery " on Highway 431 near Big Cove School (also in unmarked graves). This may be the same cemetery where Silas Brazelton (one of their sons) is buried with his wife in marked graves. I believe this is the cemetery that Collins Wynn and his son and I visited in the summer of 2008. This old cemetery is surrounded by a newer cemetery (but not owned by that cemetery). The caretakers of the newer cemetery do not care for the older property, which is sad, because it is deteriorating. This cemetery is right off Hwy 431 and is not too far from the other Brazelton family Cemetery located in Berkley .

Phillip and I spent many hours in the 1980's sharing information and I just reviewed my notes from Phillp's conversations with me. I'd probably rely more on Phillip's records due to the fact that he'd talked personally to Charlie Brazelton (died 1966) and others concerning the Brazelton ancestors. I also note that William Sibley's book "Welcome to Big Cove - History of Big Cove 1807-2000" (Bill lives in Big Cove) indicates that Henry and Lydia had their home in Big Cove and that it served as a voting precinct as well as the location one of two muster ground rallies in Madison County - so they were prominent in the area... so it would make sense that they'd be buried in Big Cove. Henry died in 1853 (Dec. 10th) he was preceded in death by Lydia who died in 1847, (June 22 of pulmonary consumption)). According to Bill's book, both attended and were active in the the Cumberland Presbyterian Church along with all their children (http://www.cumberland.org/hfcpc/churches/BigCovAL.htm) - note reference to Silas Brazelton. The original old church (no longer there) was across the road (Hwy 431) from present location of the current church and the second floor served as a school. In my view, Henry and Lydia are most likely buried in the Big Cove (Brazelton) Cemetery. Lydia died 6 years before Henry and both are said to be buried together, so it's hard for me to figure out how they would end up in New Hope (unless New Hope was a generic term for the larger area that included Big Cove at the time - this happened with Maysville - it was a much larger town then that it is now). But this is all speculation on my part.

I've made a note to try and do more research on this when I'm in the area. Let me know if you hear definitively where they are buried. Since Henry was an "original" pioneer of Madison County - moving from Georgia and born in Maryland - it'd be good to know where he rests. If I happen to run across any additional information in my records, I'll let you know.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the heads up on the memorial for my Uncle James Joseph Garland.
I added my memorial before find a grave added the edit feature and Ms Colvin has been inactive sense 2012. I added all of my information to her memorial through the edits and I will wait to see if they go through in the next few weeks. If the edits go through I will delete the other one.
I added a few like this that I intended to update, but you know how it goes you get busy and forget about such things.
Have a blessed day.
Donna

Shiloh Cemetery
Hi Robert,

If you are related or want to maintain any or all of my memorials in Shiloh (that you've sent me the edits for), I'll happily give them to you. I am not related to any of them. I added them because the entire cemetery listing was deleted when a member decided she didn't want her work on Findagrave any longer, so she deleted all of her memorials. Just send me a list if you want any of them. Happy New Year!

Hello Robert,
I looked and could not find a Charles Sorrells but there are a couple of infants listed.

I am using the Dallas Genealogical Society website to locate graves at Oakland. They have the records posted up until the year 2000 or so. You can check their website by going to it and clicking Records then Cemeteries then Search Database. Virginia

Hello Robert,
You are so welcome. it was my pleasure. I see you have requested photos of 4 other people at Oakland. I looked for them yesterday as well. I was not able to find a headstone for any of them. All 4 are located in the same section and lot. Cemetery records also indicate no headstone was ever place at their final resting place. Sorry.

Segrest, Jesse and Fern
Hi Robert,
Would you consider deleting your photo request for Jesse and Fern and asking for a new request with burial data? That way new emails will be sent. I called the cemetery and they gave me the following: 101 Block A Space 1 & 2, Section 5 in the Chapel Rose Garden (they have four gardens, big cemetery).
Thanks!

Walk The Earth
Martha Lee "Mattie" Kennedy/Brantley
Hi, I have placed a copy of her death certificate from Seabrook, Harris County, Texas on her page. Her parents are shown as Charles E. Kennedy and Anna Wilson/Kennedy on it, both born in Texas. I have looked for over two hours and have not found her husband's name, a census record on any of them or any other death certificates for her husband or parents. Cannot imagine why there is no record of them at all. Sorry......I tried to help. Perhaps the death certificate will give you something more. Could not quite read the person's name giving the information - especially the last name. That may be her daughter, but just do not know.

I'm glad I could help out. I enjoy walking through the cemeteries - it's not only great exercise, but is also very educational. A person can learn a lot just walking through a cemetery and reading headstones. Be safe!
