Powers in Staten Island, NY
Hi Jennifer, I took a photo of a marker in St. Peters Cem. on Staten Island this morning and think it might be for a few memorials you have created but some of the dates are different. The marker has these names and dates Thomas F. Powers (1895-1956), Marguerite Powers (1897-1975)and William Powers (1893-1982). Your memorial for Thomas Francis Powers is #91696268. If you think it's the same people let me know and I'll add the marker photo to these memorials. Thanks, Earl

I submitted 2 new pics with some comments. My cousin thought the smaller family group might be Alfred and his wife and daughters but was not certain.

RE: Thomas Melby's memorial
I don't have a scanner but will have access to one this week for two pics, having found a second image from same day/background. Not right away but soon I can send also pics of Thomas' brother Erick Melby and his wife Ingeborg Estenstad. As you may know Erick and Ingeborg had 3 children Alma, Oscar and Myrtle (my Grandmother). My Mother Anna was raised from 8-16 years of age by Erick and Ingeborg in Menomonie along with 2 first cousins Gerald and Elwood Urlie. Their Mother was Alma, who died in 1911 when Gerald was only a few months old.

I do recall my Mom mentioning perhaps her Aunt Olga, (Thomas' daughter) and for sure she was close to Mindy Melby Felix's son Jim Felix. Jim and his wife Helen came to Toronto from Chicago to attend my wedding in 1970.

Of interest, if you google 'Erick Melby Menomonie' a page from Polk's Gazzeteer 1903 comes up listing 'Mrs. Erick Melby--milliner' and underneath Thomas Melby is noted too!

I've only recently started this unravelling process and love it.

Thomas Melby's memorial
I have a photo which you may already have but I'm happy to send if you don't. It appears to have been taken at the same location as the pic on the memorial of Thomas showing Olava and adult children. Mine has, I think all/?most of the 1st image but includes extended family, my great-grandfather Erick Melby on the left and his wife Ingeborg on the right behind Olava.

I was so pleased to find this, solidifying in a visual way my distant connection to your family.

arnt and maret connection
Hi Jennifer-it's been so informative and a pleasure to find that we share the same lineage. I believe that Arnt Engelson and Maret Thoresdatter Engelson are my great-great grandparents. Their son Erick (name changed to Melby) was the father of my grandmother Myrtle Beach. My mother was Anna Elise Sims, the firstborn of five children to Myrtle and her first husband Johannes (John) Sims.

I've been to the Evergreen Cemetery in Menomonie several times, most recently in 2000. At that time I also visited the Lakewood Cemetery in Mineapolis where Erick's sister-in-law Berit Espaugh and her family are interred, as are his daughter Alma Melby and her husband Ingwald Urlie. I'm curious to know about Minda and Joseph Felix's progeny, if there was a son James(Jim). My mother Anna kept in touch with her cousin Jim,in fact he and his wife Helen attended my wedding in Toronto in 1970.

Rebecca Stewart
Hi Jennifer,
I am hoping you can help me with this. My great grandparents, James Stewart and Rebecca Stewart are buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hickory PA. Rebecca's middle name would be Moore, d/o James Moore and Eleanor Sutton Moore.

I this family in your line? If not, I would like ask you to tranfer these memorials to me, as I can add more bio information.

The parents of this James Stewart are John Stewart and Margaret Thom Stewart-buried in the old churchyard at Grove UP Church in West Middletown.

If you have any verified info on James that differs, please send me a message. I would like to make sure I have correct info.

Thanks so much, Becky

RE: Ralstons
I will be happy to do the links. Do you know if Charles Ralston is the father of the children buried with William and his wife? I think he is and I will link him, but would like a confirmation to be sure.

Ralstons
You asked for other Ralstons if I found them. I did.

I found Edward L. Ralston (1957) and the cemetery records indicate that Helen Pyle Ralston is buried in the same grave as Edward. She died in January 1967 and was 76 years old at time of death. However, I did not see an individual headstone for her.

Other Ralstons I found (and created memorials for) are:

Mildred Ralston - Died Nov 3, 1920 - Age 15 - Block B Lot 28 Grave 2

Francis L. (Fannie) Ralston – Died June 1914 – Age 58 - Block B Lot 28 Grave 3

William A. Ralston – Died June 1914 – Age 58 - Block B Lot 28 Grave 4

Edward Ralston – Died February 2, 1920 – Age 16 - Block B Lot 28 Grave 5

Margaret Ralston – Died May 21, 1615 – Age 18 months - Block B Lot 28 Grave 6 (Headstone says Jane and cemetery records and death notice indicate it's Margaret Jane).

I will be happy to transfer these memorials to you if you want them. There is quite an interesting, although sad, article about how William and Fannie died. I have posted the newspaper clipping. The children buried in the same plot with him and his wife must be their grandchildren. Their father was Charles Ralston who I believe is William & Fannie's son. I think he is the Charles Ralston who is buried in New Hill Cemetery at Anaconda, Deer Lodge County, Montana, USA. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=ralston&GSiman=1&GScid=1987468&GRid=105384782&
I did not link them, but I’m pretty sure it’s the same family. I found a lot of information on Ancestry.com about these Ralstons. Let me know if you want them transferred to you. Or if you find anything that is incorrect I will certainly be happy to fix it.

The Ralston family was quite well known in the Big Hole/Wise River area. I remember the name from my childhood as my aunt and uncle lived in Wise River.
