Hey Miranda - the original of the diary is in the Baptist Collection at Wake Forest University. There is a microfilm copy at the Madison Library. Not sure who else has it.

I wish I could help you with that, but I don't have that info. But I see that Jeremiah Martin has another brother named John Martin in Find A Grave.

RE: Newsum Cemetery off Spainhour Mill Road
good to hear you. I hope all is going well for you. since my brother used the NEWSUM spelling on the Thos. Turner (Newsom) family group, I don't see why it would not be appropriate to continue the plan you have to 're-organize/transfer thomas' clan into a NEWSUM CEMETERY. since mrs. Hendricks (so I understand)has been gracious enough to buy a marker (NEWSOME)for the newsom & hendricks the end of greenmeadow, it only makes sense at this point to call that group NEWSOME and dispose of the Hendrix name/wording associated with the graveyard as she herself did. I still have no clue as to how the error of merging took place, but at this point. Alma Buster is/was in total agreement for some correction to take place when I contacted alma last year about it. I'm sure all the creators, maintainers, picture contributors,( i.e me, KONWAY, Alma Buster, KR Newsom, etc.)would be thrilled to have somebody figure out how to fix it (including copy-paste any photos) so that it's not totally confusing to people like it once was. you know, "is there 1....or are there 2....cemeteries?" additionally, with regards to the 'Estab. 1727" inscription on mrs. hendrick's new marker......can't imagine where that date came from. nobody seems to have a burial inventory record and it appears from the markers that JC II's burial in 1840 was the first burial in there. deed searches appear to show that his son, JC III & wife Katherine probably owned this cemetery land at 1840. kinda hard to nail that down with the 'old hickory tree' rotted down and the 'creek branches' drying up over time..hehe Anyway, thanx for your help. patti

Waymon Griffin
To you, Miranda, and others who worked, so others could follow what you have provided.

I have that Jane was a CARDWELL born 1807, North Carolina, USA, more than likely in Stokes County, and that she married your John Griffin.

Much Appreciation,

Waymon Griffin

You are more than welcome! Yes, it is a large cemetery. They have a cool kiosk at the entrance though that helps you find many of the names. There are still a lot that aren't mapped on the kiosk but it was a good starting point.

the newsome cemeteries
hi Miranda. hope this finds you well. I just noticed that someone has 'combined' the 2 different cemeteries in forsyth county in which my relatives are buried. the Newsome Family Cemetery AND the Newsom-Hendrix Cemetery. of course you know that these are two (2) totally different cemeteries being located in 2 different locations in the community and I was curious as to whether you might have knowledge of the fact that somebody has incorrectly combined them, or have any info about why this may have happened. please email me at when possible. thank you kindly. patti newsome

I presume you know Omeda Brewer died a few years ago although her website is still on-line. She was a good e-mail friend of mine from the Piedmont area here in NC.

Hello, my name is Brandon Hooker....I was wondering if you could tell me where this Griffin cemetery is in Rural Hall. I'm a direct descendant of Pleasent and Elizabeth Griffin, and would like to visit this cemetery.

Thank you!

RE: Sarah Ann Griffin m. Frank Francis Westmoreland
What I have is that Sarah Ann Griffin (her parents were Richard Griffin and Margaret Pinson) married Frank Francis Westmoreland on October 10, 1857. They had 12 children, Virgina Ellen Westmoreland married on 18 May 1884 Stokes Co. NC to William Walter Poole (they are my great great grandparents on my fathers side). According to death certificates they are buried in the same cemetery as Sarah and Frank, probably on the same family plot. I have had no luck in finding out Williams origins. Virginia died before him so there are no parents listed on the death certificate. Rumor has it through the family is that they came over from Ireland and change the name from O'Toole.

As far as if Bird Wall and Lucy Griffin are buried in the Griffin cemetery on McGee Road...I would say it is a good possibility since I have found that families are usually buried together. I do not have alot on the Griffin's other than a few generations prior to Sarah. I have more on the Westmoreland line.

Good luck in your search!

Lisa (Poole) Parker

RE: Lanning at Austin Memorial Park
The stone to the left of the Lannings is Milbert O. and Fannie Mae Wyatt. I don't know if they're connected to the Lannings or not, but the stone is identical except for the inscription and the flowers are the same. I posted photos on those memorials as well.

RE: Sarah Ann Griffin Wilson Mem.# 38881528

I've linked Sarah to her father, Joseph, and also to her mother, Henrietta Martin Griffin.

Let me know if I did the wrong thing.

I am related to William Henry Griffin of Halifax Co. VA, who is my gg-grandfather. I have not gone as far back as you have, but I remember you now from the Griffin Family site that Reatha put together. I was at the Buffalo Cemetery today doing some photo requests since I only live about five miles away. There are a few Griffins buried there.
