Virginia Wilson Bailey
James Elvie Pate, KIA in France, WWII
Larry, I have a copy of his obituary and his memorial service. These were published in Center, Texas in September and October 1944. His photo on the memorial service notification is very dark. If you have a good memorial notification and whatever the third item might be, I would like to have a copy. email: bvirginia267@gmail.com Thank you for your offer. --- I have done extensive research on the Pate Family, and related ancesters. If you run into anything that you need information wise, let me know. Virginia

John Alvin Pate, Sr.
Larry, You are more than welcome to use my uncle's photo or any of the obituary information you would like. John Alvin Pate married Ruth Chapman in Celburne, Texas, March 31, 1920. In their earliest year, he was a barber, having gone to barber school after World War I. They had two children, LaWanda Pate (Heaberlin) & John Alvin Pate, Jr. Uncle Alvin was a Baptist Minister and preached in Shelby County & Nacogdoches County, Texas. LaWanda is still alive and living in Longview, Texas.---- Uncle Alvin had two brothers that served in World War II, L. Aubrey Pate & James Elvie Pate. Elvie was killed on August 18, 1944 in France. I sent a book on Uncle Elvie's Military service to the Genealogy Library in Center, Texas. The book gives extensive information on his military service. Uncle Aubrey served in the Panama Canal Zone. He helped rescue downed piolets and watched for German Submarines.

Thanks, Virginia Wilson Bailey, Heflin, Louisiana 71039

RE: You've suggested that I ~
Sorry, but I should have gotten back to you before this - I finally cleared my desk and had the time to do more digging and found out a bit more on Marjorie Nell "Marge" (Mills) Gouldin, memorial 130127870 and have linked the memorials you suggested as her parents. You might want to take another look to see if it all works with what you have.

I always appreciate linking memorials, but have had some miss-directions sent me in the past, so now I try to have things checked out.

You've suggested that I ~
~ link memorial 24807938 [William J Milles] and memorial 24807911 [Bonnie Lee Mills] to my memorial 130127870 [Marjorie "Marge" Gouldin] as Marge's parents.

However, I have a problem with that because there is nothing in William's or Bonnie's memorials to indicate that they are the parents of Marge: William and Bonnie were buried in Texas, and their bio sections do not mention Tennessee. And, Marge died and was buried in Tennessee, while Texas isn't included in her bio.

If you have some source that ties these three people together, I'd appreciate knowing about it, but until then, I'm inclined to hold off linking these memorials. Then, too, I might find the time to go looking for a connection, but not right at this moment.

Cathy Neil Rakoczy
RE: Willie Ratcliff
Thanks Larry, everything about this memorial is strange and I appreciate your catching a possible error. The Social Security Death Index has surname as Ratliff with birth year in 1896. WWI & WWII registrations and census records all have 1895/1896. In our research it is not at all uncommon for birth years on death certificates or headstones to be totally unrealistic for serving in WWI (or II) but I have deleted the service record in the error of caution. I'm always amazed about the death certificates with WWI service and a birth date that makes it impossible, ancestry.com is probably sick of my corrections. Have a good day.

Thanks,
Cathy
