RE: John Buttermilk Neely grave
Hi Vernon,
Thanks for your reply.

I was just wondering - a rhetorical question. Not upset with you and would not ask anyone to remove something from a grave another person had placed. I am originally from Pipestem, though have not lived there in 25 years. John's grandson, my 2nd Great-granddad, William Robert Neely (Levi's younger brother) and all of my other 2nd great-granddads fought on the confederacy side, so yes I am aware of the history.

I would be curious to learn about our cousins who were Union, though.

I guess it just struck me as odd to see a confederate flag on a grave of someone who did not fight in the war.

Thanks for sharing the picture. It is nice to "meet" a cousin.

John Buttermilk Neely grave
Just wondering why someone would place a confederate flag on Great-great-great-greatgranddaddy's grave? He was born during the Revolutionary War and died before the Civil War started, so he was not a confederate soldier. I am not for sure that he ever served in any war for that matter. His grandsons fought on the confederate side, yet West Virginia succeeded from Virginia during the war between the states, so the confederate flag is confusing to me.

Hi Vernon,

I am not sure why I added this memorial to I help a lot of people - don't think I'm related to him though.

Wish you success in your efforts to help others.
Take care, Susan

RE: Photo permission
Looks like I need information then on your branch!! You can email it to me if you want. Any births, marriages, etc up to the years 1991 and any deaths after 1991. I hope the tree has been helpful. Everything Glennis had in his book is on that site. I have been able to update a lot of the tree through Find A Grave memorials and obituaries.

RE: Photo permission
I don't think I have any Hatcher relatives living in Summers County. I think they are all in the Beckley/Mabscott area. We just had a bridge dedication for my dad at the Sophia exit on Rt. 77 over Memorial Day Weekend. I also have a brother and cousin who has a bridge dedicated to them on Rt. 19 in Flat Top. I know the Hatcher name is quite popular there, I have a lot of Hatcher relatives buried at Birchfield Cem. in Summers County on Ellison Ridge. We are pretty much scattered these days. I'm in Ohio. I'll look at the tree and follow your line. I think we are all related to John and Nancy!

William J Law # 54075787
Hi Vernon, you are right, age 19 in 1865 does not fit this William. Age 19 in 1865 would be 1846, and this William was born ~1824. I will keep looking.

Also, this William's parents are William J Law and Jane 'Jiney' Witcher, both of VA.

Thank you!

Re: Margaret Stafford #139350859
Hi - I think I've found Margaret's daughter. Her name was Topsy #156060166; she was born in McDowell Co in 1902 and died in Wheeling WV at the age of 8 in 1911 from basilar meningitis. Topsy's father is listed as Clifford P. Smith - have had no luck in finding him. SO nice to be able to reunited infants/children with parents! Any questions/comments, please let me know. Have a blessed Christmas!

Hello Vernon,
I am sorry to say I have no directions to give you. Are you related to this family? I had him listed under burial place unknown and received a email telling me he was buried in the same cemetery with his mother and father

Daisy Blodgett #125558951
Hi Vernon. Thanks for your note about Daisy. I'm not sure I understand the suggestion correctly, but it sounds like you believe that Daisy and Harry are both children of Charles and Emma Blodgett. However, that's not the case in this situation.

Charles and Emma Blodgett are the parents of Harry Blodgett. However, Daisy is Harry's wife, not his sister. Daisy's parents were Charles and Lois McFarland, as listed on transcripts of Daisy and Harry's marriage record, and on her Vermont State death certificate. It's a bit confusing because all four share the same headstone (thank you for the photo!)

RE: Almond Murray's photo
I have not really discovered much more since I messaged Betty on Facebook last August regarding Louis St. Onge's Civil War service. I still am fairly active with my research and later this summer I plan on taking a genealogical road trip through Canada, though I do not have any Murray-related stops planned.
