Myron Downing memorials
I just added a photo for Myron Downing from Plains Road Cemetery in Willoughby OH, died April 1861. Noticed calculated relationship, father of a Myron Downing b April 1862. Obviously a correction to birth, death or relationship is needed to one or the other Myron.

Roxeann Newton
Newton sir name
Hello I am a Newton however along my investigation of my extended family, I came across the info. that my Grandfather, Robert Newton changed our sir name from Newtown to Newton so I have a mixture of relatives by both names. Several buried in the Fort Jackson Hopkinton Cemetery in Fort Jackson, NY, St. Lawrence County.

Caroline Boor
I saw that you put Caroline Boor's gravestone photo on this website, and I was hoping that this means that you live nearby the cemetery and can look for her husband's gravestone. I'm a descendent of Caroline and her husband Michael. He died on March 5, 1868 in Defiance County, so I'm assuming he's buried in the same cemetery as his wife. Thank you so much and let me know.

RE: Melvina Morris
I am happy to make the transfer. Melvina is the wife of my 2nd great grand uncle, not a very close connection to me. My great grandmother was Sarah Jane Morris and her father was John Harrison Morris, a brother of George Washington Morris, who was married to Melvina.

Transfer made. Looking at your list of surnames, there probably will be more -- just holler as you find them.

RE: Joy Morcombe Switzer
I have been in contact with my husband's cousin. She remembers going with her grandmother to visit someone in Defiance, Ohio. Unfortuately there has been a death in the family and her memory is otherwise preoccupied. We will be attending the funeral, so maybe I'll be able to find out more about Joy and her family.

RE: Joy Morcombe Switzer
Joy had a son Robert Switzer, who lived in Defiance, Ohio. Have you tried to track him down? Robert also had a son named Robert Jr.

RE: Joy Morcombe Switzer
Hi Matt,

Joy's mother, Alberta Clarrissa McCaskey Morcombe, died when she was just a baby. Her father, Charles K. Morcombe, remarried and moved to Plymouth, Marshall Co., Indiana. My husband, Kris, is her great-nephew. I think Joy's niece, Nancy Morcombe Erich kept in touch with her. Nancy is now deceased, but I will contact her daughters to see if maybe they have a picture of her.

Thank you for adding the information I sent you to Joy's memorial.

Robin -

About Peleg Simmons dates...
Matt, here is what can be gleaned from the Lake County Cemetery Inscription index regarding Peleg Simmons' birth and death dates. I see on the memorial site you do not have this info. Also in the info are details of others buried in the plot. Whenever I use known death dates with ages, I try and accommodate leap years, which can be tricky. In Peleg's case it is unimportant as the ages given show only total years and not number of days, as do many of that era. So, you cannot get an actual birth date, but the year can be determined for the memorial. Here you go, if you like:

[E face] Andrew Son of/ William & Eliza/ Downing/ Died/ Sept 23, 1864/ Aged 34 years/ [N face] Peleg Simmons/ Died Oct 1 1854/ Aged 93 years/ Amy his wife/ Died/ Feb. 3, 1855/ Aged 89 years/ Downing/ [W face] WD/ William Downing/ Died/ March 1, 1878/ Aged 74 years/ Eliza his wife/ Died/ March 20, 1883/ Aged 74 years

Tyler Parish and others in Plains Pioneer
I am going out today to photograph one of your memorials: SA Brownell in Plains Pioneer Cemetery.

There is a website with tons of reliable information you may find interesting regarding Lake County, Ohio burials. For example, your memorial for Tyler Parish in Plains Pioneer Cemetery does not list birth and death dates. He was a Civil War veteran and likely died in the war, according to dates on the website. His military unit is listed as well. Here is the link. On it are other links to the master county index, which I use extensively. Enjoy!,_Tyler_1

Hi Matt, I sent a note to the address you had in your message, but it came back. Yes, my dad was Ernest Myers and I would be glad to meet with you or talk to you on the phone! I guess right now this is the only way we can communicate!

Next to Hollis is a stone for Mary Capper.
Dates 1877 - 1922. This stone is also very hard to read. I did take a picture of it. Let me know if you would like it.

RE: Elwood Vaughn

Just to be clear, Elwood is buried at Riverside Cemetery in ANTWERP, not the Riverside Cemetery in Defiance.
The mortality book did not list his date of birth, but his tombstone says 10y, 11m, 24d.

RE: Cromley Graves
Hi Matt,

Elwood Vaughn is burried in Riverside Cemetery in Antwerp, I already photographed his stone a while ago. He is the only Vaughn in Riverside. I didn't find any Vaughns in Maumee Cemetery.

The Paulding County Mortality books lists the following Vaughns:
Jean A Vaughn 11/12/1934-5/31/1981 buried at Sugar Ridge
Mary A Vaughn 6/16/1824-11/28/1911 buried in Defiance county
Nathan Vaughn abt 1825-8/5/1890
Robert Ralph Vaughn 4/16/1937-6/29/1985 buried at St. Paul
William B Vaughn 2/9/1871-3/4/1933 buried at M.C. Zion
William Calvin Vaughn 1/17/1893-2/5/1962 buried in Putnam county

I hope that is helpful.
