Aaron J Gray
Hi, Toni
At Memorial #
you wrote, "Sarah Kathleen Kepford was born in 1831 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of David & Mary Bortel Kepford. She married Nathan Munson Gray abt 1855 and they were the parents of Aaron J Gray, John Kepford Gray, Celestia Mary Gray, Alice Gray & Sarah Adaline Gray. Sarah died 17 Aug 1889 in Norton county, KS. Rest in Peace"
This is the first I've heard of Aaron J Gray being the son of Nathan and Sarah. Whats your source for that individual?

RE: Duley and Rhoades families
I don't know the answer to that for sure but ... I'm thinking they might have had different mothers. Sorry I can't answer that one for you.

RE: Duley and Rhoades families
That is what I will do then, thank you so much.

Duley and Rhoades families
Hi Toni, I have found (about 14) obituaries of family members who are buried in Beloit and would like to have the obits added to their memorials. Would you prefer I send them as additions/corrections or request transfers of the memorials (OR none of the above!) Whatever you prefer is fine with me, thank you.

John Drinnen
I see you have a request for photo for John Drinnen in Fairview Cemetery. There is no stone in this cemetery with his name on it -- only his wife. I have been down this road before with Hallie Price Garner. We have no proof that John was buried in this cemetery, nor either of the others near Home City. Our conclusion was to leave him in the same cemetery as Susan Drinen. If you have any questions you can contact Hallie.

Toni, yes we can get those combined by sending both links to the administrator, I think. I can do it if you want. I am glad everything is good. Thank you.

Lola Ratekin Taylor
Toni, Would you prefer to manage Lola's site? I am happy to continue to do so, but am happy to turn it over, too.
Mostly, am so pleased that we finally have a bit more information on her - even the maiden name. Assume you are related to Lola? Can you tell me more about her? We know that our relative, Samuel Taylor, and she married after his first wife died, but don't know if they met in California, or . . ?
Thanks for any info. Tell me if you have additional that you'd like added to her site.

It was my pleasure ... and those roses are from my garden. Wish I had some red ones but none are in bloom.

Thank you ever so much for your work in Elmwood Cemetery.

If you ever need something from CA ... you give me a call. I'm there for you.

RE: William Betchel
Hello, Toni! I would love to swap information with you as well. I am William's great grand-daughter. His youngest child of 10 kids, daughter Lydia Valentine, or "Vollie" as she was called, was my paternal grandma, who died 3 years before I was born. William has been a subject of family oral history my whole life. Nobody I know has a photo of him. My first cousin, David found his grave in McMinnville, New Union Cemetery (photo I posted) in 2003. I posted the inscription as David was able to decipher it. I also posted a photo of William's wife, Eliza Hoover Betchel, on her Find-a-Grave, who is buried just a few miles from where I live today in SD. It's exciting to find relatives! Please keep sharing.
Thank you!

Rose Hills

Went up there today only to find that my camera battery was dead. Buggers. I thought I would still look and perhaps use my cell phone, but couldn't find the Towner's without assistance and came home. But keep the faith, I will succeed.

in memory of grandma
oops.... mistake in my post
Unfortuantely, you cannot edit messages, I meant to say my ancestor was Emma Deete (Jenkins) Click -- not Reist. Only Ella her younger sister married into the Reist family.

in memory of grandma
John Reist & Ella May (Jenkins) Reist
Thanks for all the grave photos that you have added to this couple. It has been a few years since we corresponded. To refresh your memory, Ella was one of the younger sisters to my gg grandmother Emma Deete (Jenkins) Reist (my maternal grandmother's paternal grandmother).

I was so fortunate to correspond and actually meet a grandson of Ella's -- Richard Golladay (via Ella's daughter Sarah Bright (Reist) Golladay). When you actually get to meet living people from another branch, it makes genealogy that much more personal.

I have a lot of roots in Kansas, before I started investigating my grandma's ancestors, I was mainly aware of all her mother's people (Martin & Hawkins) who had been in Reno County. Her father's people (Click & Jenkins) actually had just as deep roots in Mitchell County. (Mitchell County is exactly 4 counties north of Reno.)

What is also interesting is that just last fall I discovered that the my great grandparents must have known each other as children. Abram Click (who had married Emma Deete Jenkins) left Mitchell county for Kingman County (one county south of Reno). Eventually they must have either spend some time in Reno County, or at least became good friends as my grandma's maternal grandfather John Martin vouched for my grandma's paternal grandfather Abram Click as to his Civil War disability... Nevertheless, it just seems extra special that my great grandparents knew each other when they were very young...

Thanks for all that you do with findagrave in Beloit, as I have stated, that area has as many roots for me as my well known Reno County roots.

Thank You Toni,
Thanks for taking a picture of my Uncle Clifford's tombstone and placing it on his memorial page. I am assuming you live in Beloit or nearby. We have a Warburton reunion near there once a year. I will think of you as we drive through. Thanks

Wallace Family Again
Me again. I just checked your Wallace memorials. You have a Gerald Wallace born 1913 and buried in Beloit cemetery. I also have a Gerald Wallace in my line, born about 1914 in Kansas, probably in or near Beloit. My Gerald's parents were Charles E and Ada Wallace. (Charles is son of William Wallace.) Same Gerald? Who are your Gerald's ancestors. Sounds like we might have a connection somewhere. Email me at

Wallace Family
Toni, My Wallaces go back to William Wallace born about 1788 in Scotland and died in 1870 in Wisconsin. The only James Wallace I have was born and died in 1847 in Wisconsin, son of William. Your James Wesley Wallace, father of Nancy Jane Wallace Pounds (b1836), was born earlier...and lived. It's possible that William had an earlier family but I don't have any names or dates for them. I haven't heard of William having a brother that came over from Scotland. Most of my Wallaces stayed in Wisconsin, but some did move to Beloit, Kansas. Email me at if you think we have a connection, or if you have more info on James Wesley Wallace. Nadine
