Sergeant William Henry Auten, Co. K, 86th Illinois
Dear Debra, This little message leaves Peoria, Illinois with prayers that it finds it's way to you and finds you doing well. About 5 years ago, I was working with you on the biography of Sergeant W. H. Auten. You mentioned that you had a picture of your great great grandfather with some of his friends up on Look Out Mountain. I have a picture of 7 or eight Civil War veterans that I believe may actually all be members of Co. K, but, don't know for certain. I believe this must be the same picture you have. I have added my picture to his site. Could you check it out and let me know if this is the same picture. If it is, only two of the men are identified in my picture, Sergeant John Zimri Slane, of Co. K and Corporal Emanuel Keller, also of Co. K. I believe your great great grandfather is 2nd from the left in the back, over John Slane's right shoulder. Is this the same picture and is this your GGGrandfather? If this is the same picture, are any of the other men identified and is your picture dated by chance. Hoping to hear from you again. Baxter

In going over one of your emails, I saw you mentioned the photograph of some of Co. K on Umbrella Rock on Lookout Mountain. Is this the same picture that I have on John Zimri Slane's Find A Grave Memorial? If it is, it your great great grandfather 2nd from the left in the back? Do you have any of the other men identified? Looking forward to hearing from you again. Baxter

Photos of George and William Auten, of Co. K, 86th Illinois
Debra, I don't know if I ever wrote to you after I saw the pictures that you had added of William H. Auten to his site or not. Whether I did or did not, I want to Thank You for them. I am again going though my Co. K bios and trying to find photographs of the men of Co. K that I am missing. Is it possible that you have, have seen or know of someone who might have photographs of William's brother, George Auten? George lived until 1906 and I have to believe there are pictures of him and his wife, Nancy Jane (Moore) Auten, similar to the ones you added to William H. Auten's site. Let me know if you know of any or of someone who I might contact. Thanks for all you have done to make these sites what they are. Sincerely, Baxter

William H. Auten & Jessie A. (Gibson) Auten
Dear Debra, Just in going through your pictures, I was able to learn a little more about the Auten's. I did not know Jessie's maiden name and learned this from your pictures. I also did not know what became of Orlando and learned not only this but that he had a Find A Grave site. It would be great to get this linked to William and Harriett's sites. Could you look over William's Find A Grave site and help me fill in any more missing information? I especially would like to know what became of the children. Can you help me here? Also, would you consider adding the picture of Jessie and William to Jessie's site? Her site is........now I forgot the number? I think you should be able to find it OK just by going to William's Find A Grave sites. Thanks for all you are doing. Hoping to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Baxter

William H. Auten
Dear Debra, I just went to one of the Find A Grave sites for William H. Auten and saw the wonderful pictures that you have added to that site. As you probably know, William has two tombstones in two different locations so there are two Find A Grave sites for him. Would you consider adding your pictures to his other Find A Grave site as well. His other Find A Grave site is #49384186. It would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!! Thanks for all you are doing. Baxter

RE: Alva and Edna Swangel
After my folks passed away I had to pack up all the old pics but luckily my Mom had names on most of them and my Grandma gave her alot from the Swangel/Swangle family as far as I know my Dad might be the only one with the latter spelling, But he insists our name was the correct spelling and the mistake was with all the others. Anyway if I come across Blanche Bernice Swangel/Swangle I will definately let you know. Thanks again Joyce
