To the best of my knowledge, the child is buried in the spot between the two pictured headstones. There are not many headstones & markers in this area.

John Bell Lewis was born on a plantation near Coffeeville, Alabama;spending his youth near Winedale, Texas

John Bell Lewis served the Confederate States of America in Co. E, 2nd TX Cavalry, Waul's Legion.

John Bell Lewis was a banker, businessman, and one-time Sheriff of Austin County from November 5, 1878-November 4, 1890.

John Bell Lewis married Mary(Mollie) Bell Ervine May 11,1879.


He was the grandson of BETTY WASHINGTON LEWIS who was the younger sister (16 months) of George Washington. (Betty Washington was the daughter of Augustine Washington & Mary Ball Washington)Betty married Fielding Lewis in 1750.

John's grandparents, Betty and Fielding Lewis were the builders and owners of the Historic KENMORE PLANTATION. Fielding Lewis served at various times in the Virginia House of Burgesses.
