Mrs. William Cheek
Hey Justin,

Do you happen to know the name of Mrs. William Cheek, buried in Marshall Cemetery?

Thanks, Kathy

Dial Maddox
Dial Maddox did not die in a gunfight at Kirkpatrick's Mill. Dial Maddox and John D. Mulkey were both shot inside of C.C. Campbell's store in Knob Noster near sunset on 1 Dec 1865. Both men were unarmed and were shot at very close range (their clothing caught fire). John D. Mulkey was shot by Proctor McQuerter and collapsed and died very quickly in the doorway of the shop. His body lay partially inside the doorway on the wooden porch. Dial Maddox was shot by George Kirkpatrick. He was able to walk a few hundred feet pursued by George Kirkpatrick before collapsing. He died about an hour later. This is recorded in a series of newspaper articles that appeared in the Warrensburg Standard between 8 Dec 1865 and 5 Jan 1866.

Lillie M. Wells Cox
I do believe that her burial was indeed at Early Cemetery. Here are my sources:

I received a listing called Cass County, Missouri Cemeteries Researched Edition Volume Eight ompiled by Debbi Lehr & Brenda Marble. All of the Wells interments in this cemetery were copied for me. They are as follows: Claborn F 1856-1921, Ester A 10/11/1870-1/5/1895, Fielding A 6/20/1832-6/12/1904, James N 10/22/1866-6/24/1905, John T 1/4/1869-3/2/1936 with Rebecca 3/20/1872-5/8/1947, Lewis Silas 3/24/1861-12/25/1911, Mary A 1836-1920.

Also, Missouri Death Certificates, 1910-1965: Mercer County, Certificate #40045 for a Lillie M. Wells Cox. Parents listed as F A Wells and Mary Barnett. Burial at Early Cemetery.

Lillie's parents were Fielding Andrew and Mary Ann "Polly" Barnett Wells.

Because of this information, I don't believe the suspected Wells headstone indeed reads Wells. It might read Welsh, or something similar. I think this memorial should be deleted.

I suggested that they contact my source, Sharon Cumpton at May-Day Tax Services in Garden City, MO. She has the source I mentioned above. Maybe if they went through all the headstones and made sure each one had it's own memorial page, then by process of elimination they could find out what this "Wells" one reads.

So, being a Cox, what information do you have on Lillie marrying into the Cox family? Is E.M. Cox, the informant on her death certificate, her spouse? If so, is it the Elmer M. Cox that is linked to her memorial page? And when I say memorial page, I mean the correct one at Early Cemetery. Haahaa.

I hope you enjoy your day!
April

Church
I've found several members of the Church family in the Oak Grove cemetery in Oak Grove, MO. I took pictures of the ones I came across. I only walk about 1/4 of the cemetery. I plan on going back out later today to walk the rest of it.

Locate This Grave
I am a member of the family, who has been trying to locate this particular grave as part of writing a historical reference on the family and was unsuccessful. As well, the rest of the family does not know the location of this grave. I have tracked a reference to this cemetery in her daughters writings, but could not locate her grave when I traveled there. Since you seem to have indicated that she is buried there, could you indicate how you know this, and point out where her grave would be on the Oak Grove Cemetery grounds? Thank you.

Shinkle lines
Chris and Pauline Narron Shinkle were my stepfathers parents and I have info on the Shinkle line both in Warrensburg Johnson Co MO and more -some are still living. I work w/Find a Grave as
#47735969 but I do not want to and cannot take over any of this Shinkle line or associated names in the family info. Would be willing to pass on the info I do have on them via computer only to their own personal e-mail addresses. I do have a SHINKLE line in Ancestry.com also. Virginia
